1 I. Call to Order/Pledge of Allegiance: President Paula Pelletier called the meeting to order at 6:37 PM. Present were: Vice President Wanda Mulinski Library Director Sue Dowdell Treasurer Isabelle Culotta Temporary Secretary Martha Melville Ken Priestley II. III. Review of Agenda: The agenda was reviewed. Wanda added B Event Family Fun Night and Sue added C. Table cover with logo and D. Meeting Dates under XI. New Business Motion made to accept the amended March 1, 2016 agenda: Mulinski/Culotta; all aye. A. Minutes: The February 2, 2016 meeting minutes were reviewed Motion made to accept the February 2, 2016 FOL meeting minutes: Mulinski/Priestley; all aye. B. 2 Sue commented about the donation from Amazon Smile, noting that purchases from Amazon can be made through this program to give to the Friends. She will put info on the Friends page in the next newsletter to inform patrons. A. Review of passes Isabelle noted that they were all up to date Received annual pass information from Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, $100/year Ridgefield; after discussion it was agreed that the passes to Wadsworth and New Britain American Art museum are sufficient. B. White Memorial Conservation Center Motion to purchase an annual pass for $75.00 to the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield: Priestley/Mulinski; all aye. V. Liaison to the Library Board Sue reported in lieu of a Library Board Trustee 1. Changed LRP committee name to Strategic Plan Subcommittee 2. Adopted Capital Planning Schedule that was sent w/ Budget documents 3. SPS Will be working on goals for Strategic Plan 4. Working on Emergency Closing and Hazard preparedness policies VI. VII. Liaison to Selectmen's Meeting Sue Dowdell - approved the banners downtown Sunshine Committee Report Wanda Mulinski - will send get well card to Karen Wilson VIII. President s Report: Paula Pelletier - bookmarks are in, look beautiful A. Vice-President s Report Wanda Mulinski - NTR B. Library Director s Report: Sue Dowdell 1. Used State Aid to Libraries grant and C-Card grant to purchase 5 notebooks/cases for Robotics classes to use only have to take 2 laptops from patrons. 2. ADA compliance report being completed by SCSU intern David Makusevich 3. Will be seeking approval from Library Board to submit grant application to install a ceiling mounted projector/screen and speakers in the town hall assembly room 4. Updated the family brochure 5. Concern about Governor s budget State Library s has been cut 25% total in the last eight years. 6. DeliverIt service - formerly known as C-Car with the state taking over, we will only have delivery 2-3 times a week. Concern about space issues for storing materials and less responsive time for delivery. 2

3 IX. Publicity Martha Melville A. Recurring meeting press release to be published in Citizen's News as space allows B. Signs needed to purchase for book sale? C. Scrabble info sent to WRHS for morning announcements, Region 16 for e-distribution, church bulletins, Voices, Citizen's News, and Prospect Pages for March D. Scrabble signs - Wanda - got permission to post signs; Martha will request use of the park & rec sign X. Old Business A. Reference Section NTR B. Library Wish List 1. Curtains in children's room update - complete and installed 2. Animal program $450 Amy requested the Friends pay for this for summer reading to be held in lyceum Motion to approve payment for the animal program requested by Program Librarian Amy Enquist: Mulinski/Priestley; all aye. Sue noted the Summer Reading theme is "Get Moving". C. Better World Books status - current balance $6.34 D. Scrabble - March 31, update about $2,000 pledged for sponsorships, awaiting some checks to arrive. 7 teams registered 1. Status of prizes Isabelle will purchase six $50 GCs from Gabe's Service Station for the 1st place winners Isabelle suggested buying a $50 GC from New Harvest for the tea cup auction. Motion to purchase a $50 gift certificate from New Harvest for the Scrabble tea cup auction: Mulinski/Pelletier: all aye. 2. Set up/clean up: Boy Scouts Wanda asked Erin Schwarz to request their help for clean up 3. Food - Isabelle; will get wraps from Big Y, Costco and Stop & Shop, veggie sandwiches from Subway; dessert may get cookies from a bakery in Woodbridge 4. Judges seeking yes from either John or Jess DeGennaro; Tina Mulinski, Cindy Jurzynski & Gail Pells 5. Volunteers - Arlene Sorrentino will help on cheater tables 3

4 6. Tea cup auction - Elaine Klabonski will oversee ; items so far: BF Pharmacy and BF yoga gift certificates ACTION: Paula will membership requesting donations for the tea cup auction 7. Scrabble boards - Sue will arrange to borrow from Waterbury; Wanda will pick up and check them over Sue noted Carine created the display case in the hallway for Scrabble Sue used Facebook advertising and got one team registered so far Wanda asked how to distribute leather anniversary bookmarks to Scrabble sponsors E. FoBFL 25th Anniversary - open house update Sat. April Refreshments - tabled 2. Commemorative bookmarks - update - Paula - order arrived 3. Historical display - TBD F. Library banners to display downtown on light posts - update Nu Age: prepared the design; in production G. Duck Race - Sat. May 14 - offerings? tabled H. Pampered Chef fundraiser - will run through March, order deadline April 9; paperwork available in library and handed out at meeting; will bring to cooking classes Press release sent to Citizen's News I. Book Page subscription - share with Oxford Library - update copies delivered to Oxford, waiting for check from their Friends XI. New Business A. Refreshments for March programs Cookies & Coloring: March 10 & 16 and Gargoyles of Yale March 29 ACTION: Paula will membership asking volunteers to bake for these events. 4

5 B Events 1. June book sale: Friday night June 3rd & Sat. morning June 4th - need permission to use THAR Bake Sale too? 2. October Pumpkin Painting & Pancake fundraiser - waiting for date from Lions Club; suggested parade and children's contest Sue noted that if the Rotary Club does the haunted hayride it will be the weekend before Halloween, not the 28 th /29 th - 3. Shopping Fair/Cupcake Contest/Book Sale: lyceum reserved for November 3, 4 & 5 4. Family Fun Night - possibly July 9th, Martha will check with Erin Schwarz C. Logo tablecloth - either a runner or a full tablecloth to promote FoBFL at events ACTION: Sue will ask Nu-Age for a price on a logo tablecloth and runner since they have the FoBFL logo for the banners. D. Meeting Dates: conflicts with programs on Tuesday Sue requested changing the regular meeting so it won't conflict with library programs and the Beacon Falls Lions Club meetings Discussion ensued about date options. It was agreed to change meeting to the second Tuesday of the month starting on June 14. XII.
