Hall Conference Room of the Batavia Public Library. 2. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag 3. Call the Roll Trustees Present: Diane L. Blodgett, Jennifer M. Culotta, Andrew R. Deitchman, Katherine A. Garrett, Richard A. Henders, Michael E. MacKenzie, and Jo Ann Smith Trustees Absent: None Staff Members Present: Director George H. Scheetz, Kathy A. Moecher, Stacey L. Peterson, and Joanne C. Zillman Visitors Present: Community Engagement: Barbara L. Mabbs, volunteer, Batavia Access Television (BATV), Inc. 4. Comments from the Audience There were no comments from the audience. 5. Approve the Consent Agenda Trustee Deitchman read the consent agenda. Trustee Deitchman asked whether there were any changes to the consent agenda. Other Action Items: (1) A Resolution Certifying the Illinois Public Library Annual Report (IPLAR): RESOLUTION Seconded by Trustee Henders. The motion carried, Approve the Agenda Trustee Deitchman asked whether there were any changes to the agenda. Motion by Trustee Culotta to approve the amended agenda, as presented. Seconded by Trustee Garrett. All: Aye. The motion carried. 7. Financial Reports In the absence of H. Joseph McKane, the Library s Finance Specialist, there were no financial reports. 8. President s Report The President did not present a special report. 9. Good News / Comments from the Board Home Delivery: Trustee Henders reported on the Library s Home Delivery Service, in which the Home Delivery Assistant delivers books and materials to local retirement homes. Henders expressed the residents gratitude for this special service. 10. Correspondence and Communications Batavia windmills getting an app: City and library team up to produce online tour. Director s and Librarians Reports: July 2018 Statistical Reports The following monthly and year-to-date reports were included in the Board packet: Circulation, Library Usage / Reciprocal Borrowing, and Acquisitions Other Highlights PechaKucha Night Batavia: Director Scheetz reported that Volume 12 would take place on Thursday, 30 August 2018, at Island View Banquets (at the Batavia VFW). PechaKucha 20x20 was first proposed as a new program during the Library s Strategic Planning process in 2014: Partner with other community organizations to launch PechaKucha Night Batavia. 1 PechaKucha Batavia is one of three highly successful collaborative projects that operate under the aegis of the Library; the others are Books Between Bites and Born to Read. Personnel: Among other personnel changes, Director Scheetz reported that a new full-time Facilities Assistant (Facilities Services) was hired. Report from Youth Services Joanne C. Zillman presented highlights from her written report and, in particular, reported on Summer Reading Club. Report from Adult Services Stacey L. Peterson presented highlights from her written report and, in particular, reported on the availability of portable CD players for patrons of the Home Delivery Service. In response to a question from Trustee MacKenzie, discussion followed on the Library s one-onone technology coaching and genealogy coaching services. 12. Committee and Official Representative Reports a. Standing Committee on Facilities: Trustee Smith presented a brief report on the work of the Standing Committee on Facilities, the packet for which was distributed to the Board. b. Standing Committee on Finance: There was no meeting in August. c. Standing Committee on Outreach: Trustee Henders presented a brief report on the work of the Standing Committee on Outreach, the packet for which was distributed to the Board. d. Standing Committee on Services: There was no meeting in August. e. Batavia Public Library Foundation: Director Scheetz presented a brief report on the work of the Batavia Public Library Foundation. f. Friends of the Batavia Public Library: Trustee Smith presented a brief report on the work of the Friends of the Batavia Public Library. 1 Board of Library Trustees received a report on the launch of this collaborative project in May 2015; the first PechaKucha Night Batavia took place on Thursday, 1 October MINUTES (REGULAR MEETING) 21 AUGUST 2018 PAGE 3 OF 5

4 g. Library Integrated Network Consortium (LINC): There was no meeting in August. h. Batavia Access Television (BATV): Trustee Henders presented a brief report on the work of BATV. 13. Future Agenda Items Director Scheetz noted that an updated list of future agenda items was included in the Board packet. 14. Next Meetings or Events a. Staff Development Day (4th Friday in August), Friday, 24 August 2018, Library Closed (Scheduled Work Day for All Employees) Trustee Deitchman reported Library closings for Staff Development Day and Labor Day, as well as the change from summer to regular hours on Sunday, September 9. In response to a question from Trustee MacKenzie, discussion followed on the schedule for Staff Development Day. b. Library Card Sign-Up Month, September 2018 launched in 1987 as a national campaign: every child should obtain a library card c. Sunday before Labor Day, Sunday, 2 September 2018, Library Closed d.
