3 City of Menifee Senior Advisory Committee Special Meeting Minutes Tuesday, April 24, CALL TO ORDER Committee Chair Gloria Sanchez called the meeting to order at 10:08 AM. 2. ROLL CALL Present were: Committee Chair Gloria Sanchez, Committee Member Helen Alexander, Committee Member Ann-Marie Novack, Committee Member Angela Wojtkowski, Community Services Supervisor Jason Hendrix, Community Services Coordinator Aisha Wilson and seven members of the public. 3. FLAG SALUTE 4. PRESENTATION None 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 5.1. Minutes of March 27, 2018 A motion to approve the previous minutes of was made by Committee Member Wojtkowski Motion was seconded by Committee Member Novack Motion was unanimously approved. 6. AGENDA APPROVAL OR MODIFICATION A motion to approve the agenda of was made by Committee Member Alexander Motion was seconded by Committee Member Wojtkowski Motion was unanimously approved. 7. PUBLIC COMMENTS (non-agenda items only) Resident Vicki Kelly asked about the Drug Take back day and about Metrolink day time train service. 8. DISCUSSION ITEMS 8.1. 4 Discussed program option for Pilot Trolley System Discuss current transportation gaps Discuss possible pick-up/drop-off locations for the Special Event Trolley Community Services Supervisor Hendrix discussed shuttle service for the City Wide Special events and possible locations. Committee Member Alexander asked if residents need to drive to a location to get on the shuttle Committee Chair Sanchez talked about possible locations for pick. She also mentioned that it s important to make sure the vehicle have ADA accessibility. Committee Member Novack suggested a park location for shuttle service Committee Chair Sanchez recommended pick up in Romoland at Marion Ashley Center and also Rancho Ramona Park. She also mention Menifee lakes Committee Member Alexander also suggested maybe at the Revival Church because they have lots of parking. Motion was seconded by Committee member Alexander Community Service Coordinator Aisha Wilson asked if Committee would make a motion to add Recreation Trail action item to the strategic plan Committee Chair Sanchez talked about the Committee waiting for city Manager feedback 8.2. Strategic Planning Updates Discuss and provide updates on all Strategic Action Plan Items Committee Member Novack mentioned she attended last month she attended the Youth Advisory Committee Meeting. She also mentioned that Committee Member Wojtkowski attended the team building workshop the Youth Advisory Committee had last month. Committee Member Alexander talked about the brainstorm meeting with Community Services Coordinator Aisha Wilson and also her visit to the Boys and Girls club. 5 8.3. Independence Day Parade Float Discuss and select a them for the Independence Day Parade Float Committee Chair Sanchez asked about what is theme this year. Community Services Supervisor Hendrix mentioned there is no set theme and it is something that they group would decide. Committee Member Wojtkowski recommended a subcommittee to be formed for this event Committee Chair Sanchez recommended that the subcommittee that currently is currently working with the Youth Advisory Committee take the lead. All committee members agreed Youth Advisory Committee Restructure Discuss and approve the proposed restructuring of the Youth Advisory Committee Community Services Supervisor Hendrix talked about the proposed restructuring of the Youth Advisory Committee. Talked about it could increase the members of the committee and not being held to the formalities of the meeting. Committee Member Novack mentioned it would be great that the Youth Advisory Committee could be more casual so that the members can talk freely and truly provide their input. Committee Chair Sanchez suggested that they should be less formal. Also this could allow more meetings. Also allowing their time on the committee could give them credit for community service hours. COMMUNITY SERVICES SUPERVISOR COMMENTS 9.1 Department Update Homeless Task Force Coalition Meeting- Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 3:00pm Menifee Better Together, April 28, 2018 at Sun City Civic Association Senior Health Fair- May 14, :00am-12:00pm Senior Prom (80 s theme)- May 19, :00pm-7:00pm Independence Day Celebration- June 30, 2018 at What field Park Music and Art Festival- August 25, 2018 at MSJC 6. COMMITTEE MEMBER REPORTS ON COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES Committee Member Alexander talk about her Emergency Preparedness held April 11, 2018 in her community. She thank for whoever was able to get Cal Fire out. She also asked about what to do if a senior is refusing assistance. Committee Chair Sanchez mentioned nothing much can be done if a senior doesn t want any assistance. The most that can be done is calling Adult protective services or the police 7. 7 CITY OF MENIFEE SUBJECT: STRATEGIC PLANNING 2017/2018 MEETING DATE: May 22, 2018 TO: PREPARED BY REVIEWED BY: Committee Chair and Committee Members Aisha Wilson, Community Services Coordinator Jason Hendrix, Community Services Supervisor APPROVED BY: Jonathan Nicks, Community Services Director RECOMMENDED ACTION That the Senior Advisory Committee provide monthly updates on Strategic Action Plan items. DISCUSSION At the February 27, 2018 Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting, Committee members reviewed the 2017/2018 action plan items and appointed subcommittees to oversee each action item. SAC Members discussed and agreed that at each meeting the subcommittees would provide updates on their respective action item. FISCAL IMPACT None. ATTACHMENTS None

8 CITY OF MENIFEE SUBJECT: Senior Health and Wellness Fair Recap MEETING DATE: May 22, 2018 TO: PREPARED BY: REVIEWED BY: Committee Chair and Committee Members Aisha Wilson, Community Services Coordinator Jason Hendrix, Community Services Supervisor APPROVED BY: Jonathan Nicks, Community Services Director RECOMMENDED ACTION Discuss and provide feedback of the 2018 Senior Health and Wellness Fair DISCUSSION During the 2016 strategic planning meeting, the Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) proposed an annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair where senior residents and their families are able to have a centralized location to attain senior related resources. Each year staff works with SAC members to plan this event. Staff will provide an overview of the Senior Health and Wellness Fair held at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center on Monday, May 14, SAC members will provide feedback from the 2018 Health and Wellness Fair including likes, dislikes, and modifications they would like to see implemented at the 2019 Health and Wellness Fair. 9 Senior Health and Wellness Fair Wrap-Up Report 2018 Overview: The Senior Health and Wellness Fair at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center was held on Monday May 14, 2018 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. There were over 300 seniors in attendance that visited over fifty vendors. Vendors that participated in this event provide senior related information on medical, financial, assisted living, transportation, senior services and nutrition. Free health screenings such as blood pressure, glucose testing, balance and spirometry were available everyone at no cost. Staff, volunteers, elected officials and Senior Advisory Committee members have heard nothing but positive comments on how well organized this event was. The event concluded with a free lunch which included a sandwich, fruit, and drink, prepared by Family Services Association and sponsored by 55+ Senior Realty. Verbal surveys with seniors included the following comments: This event seemed to have more vendors, and the vendors had better freebies this year! I liked the prizes this year, they were very nice! This year was the most organized health fair so far, great job to staff! I am grateful that the City puts this event together to allow seniors gather resources Attendance: 330 Passports where distributed Revenue (in kind dollar estimate from vendor) Vendor Type of Donation Description Estimated Amount 55+ Real Estate Service Paid for lunch Turkey sandwich, salad, fruit $ WellQuest Living Costco Gift Card 400 Bottle Waters and 400 Granola Bars $ Miller Jones Mortuary In kind Shuttle Service $ Family Service Association In kind Prepared lunches $ Total Donations: $1, Areas of opportunity: This year shuttle service was provided from Lazy Creek Recreation Center, Mayfield Park and Sun City Civic Association to Kay Ceniceros Senior Center. Unfortunately there were no ridership from the Sun City Civic Association. To improve next year s Senior Health and Wellness Fair, identification of location of shuttle pickup/drop-off should be set and put on the flyers sixty days in advance so it may be included in the event marketing.

It is recommended that the Senior Advisory Committee review the meeting calendar and discuss the possible cancellation of the July 24, 2018 Senior Advisory Committee Meeting.
