The of Trustees, Director and Staff would like to thank all of you who came out to vote for our Annual Budget Vote. The budget passed and our Trustee Judith Graham-Guerrier was re-elected. Wyandanch Public Library Celebrates Juneteenth: Tuskeegee Airmen Juneteenth Dinner Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Join Julius Freeman, one of the original Tuskeegee Airman as he shares his own personal accounts and experiences during this dinner dedicated in the honor of our forefathers. Our library's goal is to provide the best service to our customers in a friendly and helpful environment. We pride ourselves with offering user -friendly services both online and in the library. We promise that when you come into our library you will leave feeling that you accomplished your purpose for visiting the library. We will help you get what you came for or provide information on when or how you can get the particular information or item. We are happy to provide E-books, as well as print books, books on CD, music CD s and current popular publications for check out. We welcome suggestions for purchase of library materials and ideas for library programs and Library cards are easy to obtain. 2 Page 2 Children s Programs Tissue Paper Stained Glass Craft- Using several special ingredients come design your own stained glass craft that you can hang on the window and let the sun shine through. Monday, May 11, Memorial Day Cupcakes- Memorial Day is an important day for our country where we honor the people that fought to make our world a safe place. We will design red, white, and blue cupcakes. Monday, May 18, Butterfly Program- Children will be introduced to local butterflies. They will also learn about the stages of life for a butterfly and how they emerge from a cocoon. Also, the kids will observe living butterflies. Monday, June 8, Fathers Day Picture Frame Craft- Show your love by creating a picture frame. Along with the frame we will be taking photos of every child to fit inside the frame. Tuesday, June 16, - Community Heroes Breakfast: Raising Successful Children Against the Odds- Come enjoy breakfast with us as we celebrate the start of the summer reading program and its special theme Every Hero Has A Story. There will be a presentation by several parents and their stories of how they raised their children to become community heroes. Saturday, June 27, 10:30 am Summer Reading Program Magic Show-Come see the amazing Phillip Jennings perform amazing and unbelievable magic tricks. This program will also feature a time to learn and sign-up for the summer reading program. Sunday, June 28, 2:30 pm-3:30 pm Entertainment Pass Program Use your library card to receive free or discounted museum and attraction passes. Participating destinations include: The Bronx Zoo American Museum of Natural History Metropolitan Museum of Art Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery Aquarium Long Island Game Farm Check on availability and pick up passes at the Circulation Desk. Bring your library card to pick up your pass. One pass may be borrowed per person, per loan period. (ELA)- The program spans every curriculum area: reading, language arts, math, science, STEM, social studies, writing, graphic arts, typing, music, and more. The content is correlated to Common Core standards. The Library has had for a number of years now and it is a valuable resource for children and families in our community. Wednesday, May 6, Mother s Day Craft: Stress Bag- Tell your mom what a good job she s done raising you with this specially crafted present and remind her how much you love her! Friday, May 8, Meet the Author: Matt De La Peña- Join award-winning teen author Matt De La Pena as he comes to speak to the young adults about how he transformed from a reluctant reader into a professional author. Tuesday, May 26, Regents Study Jam Sessions- High school students prepping for their science Regents Exams are invited to a study session with the Professor Anthony Abbate. We will be hosting a Living Environment and Earth Science study session. First Session: Thursday, May 28, 3:00 pm Second Session: Thursday, May 28, 4:30 pm DIY Spa Day in a Jar- Pamper yourself with a homemade sugar scrub. You ll smell good enough to eat after making this special bath product from scratch. Wednesday, June 3, NEW! Anime Viewing: A Night of Bleach- Fans of Bleach unite under one roof to celebrate the series and watch a few episodes. Friday, June 5, Make Your Own T-Shirts- Show us your chic side/team colors! Mingle with fellow anime fans and enjoy this standalone movie. Friday, June 12, South of the Border Lasagna- Learn to make delicious south of the border lasagna with Chef Rob Scott. It will be ready to take home and bake so you can enjoy it for dinner! Tuesday, June 16, Father s Day Craft: Folded Shirt Card- Drop by to create a special handmade card to celebrate your dad! These cards will look like a button-up shirt and will have a place for a special handwritten message inside. Wednesday, June 17, NEW! Video Game Friday: Portal 2- This game will test your ability to think and act creatively. Use your portal gun to produce your own paths through otherwise sealed surfaces. Teens will be working in teams of two to solve the game s intricate puzzles. Friday, June 19, Teen Software: Prezi- Learn how to use the innovative website Prezi.com for presentations that can be saved online and accessed from any computer with internet access. Wednesday, June 24, Summer Reading Kickoff: Talking Drums- Sign up for the summer reading club to the beat of these Talking African drums with the world class percussionist Kobla Dente. Friday, June 26, 3:30 pm Duct Tape Craft Day- Sign up for the Summer Reading Club and leave in style! Drop by to make wallets, bowties, hair bows, or cell phone pouches with our special superhero printed duct tape. Tuesday, June 30,
