QB Sunrise Scuttlebutt Special President Mike s Year July 7th 2015 June 28th 2016 I don t know any other way to lead but by example. Don Shula First Quarter Ø George initiates a membership initiative by encouraging members to place their Rotarian Magazines is Businesses in the Oceanside area Ø Don models the new clubwear items, much improved over our previous shirts and jackets. Ø Arrowsmith Search and Rescue is an organization we have supported for many years. There new vehicle was on display.
Ø Membership Director Allan inducts our first new member of the Rotary year. Ken Zuehike transferred from the High River Rotary Club. Ø Sandcastles kept us busy through most of July and into August. Ø Community Service Director Susan and President Mike present a cheque for $8000 to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation. The funds purchased 8 day beds for the new Hospice facility in Oceanside. Ø District Governor Rose Bowman and husband Leon visited our club in October. Rose and Leon are members of the Chehalis Rotary Club Second Quarter Ø Eight Day Beds are installed at Trillium. The beds enable family members to stay with loved ones in Palliative care at the expanded Hospice facility. Ø Deb was instrumental in organizing a new and improved Roses fundraiser in cooperation with the Parksville Save On Foods outlet. Les preparation and a better bottom line was the result. Ø Allan and Mike inducted Deanna, our second new member of the year. Deanna transferred from the Kitchener Grand River Rotary club.
Ø Bev and Arlene present a cheque for $1000 to Young Life leader Doug Lochead. Ø Stuart and Mike on a cool Sally Ann Kettle Shift at Qualicum Foods. Ø Susan hosted a great Christmas party at her home. Ø Sponsor Susan and AG Kenn inducted Wendy into our club, our third new member of the year. Ø Club Service Director Gord and President Mike at our final meeting of the Second Quarter held at Gary s Bistro on Second Street in Qualicum. Third Quarter Alan inducts John into our club on March 15. John is our fourth new member this Rotary year.
Ø Susan and Judi update members on Story Book Village happenings. Ø Arlene takes on the Ticket Sales for the Spring Ball and tickets go on sale at our Feb 2nd meeting Ø Don announces the West Jet Raffle and also takes on the management of our Spring Ball fundraising efforts. Ø Foundation Chair Ken presents Allan with a Paul Harris Society pin. Ø Parksville AM President Gary Cox and PP Diana Matsuda visit our club to share their recent experience in Mexico. Ø Community Service Director Susan presents a cheque for $1000 to the MANNA Society.
Fourth Quarter Ø Story Book Village is spruced up/painted up on several work party sessions. Ø Fire and Ice was a huge success with Sunrise Rotarians again involved in a big way. Ø An end of year party recognized the work of Rotary Readers who read with elementary children throughout the last school year. Ø International Director David presents a cheque for $1000. The funds will sponsor a girl studying at Atiskana Pa Ulendo School in Malawi. Ø Show and Shine relocated to Rotary House and proved to be a huge success. Ø Throughout the year President Mike presented over 20 Certificates to our weekly speakers, our way of thanking them for their visit. That represents over 500 children that have been immunized against Polio this year.
Under Mike s leadership our club has experienced one of our best years. The Board decisions were well thought out and objectives for the year have, for the most part, been realized. Members were also asked to participate in decision-making, a trend that is increasing with each year. As previous club Presidents have experienced, the year goes by in a flash, and that s something Mike must feel as he looks back on his year. Congratulations Mike for a job well done, and, no more researching your opening story.
