2 Gary Borgmann, CPD President, C.I. Chapter of ASPE From the President: Greetings! May is finally here and we have a big month for you This month we have our election of officers at the May 18th meeting. Although every position is uncontested, we still have blanks for write-in nominations. I would like to invite you to consider running for a position, even if it s just a secretary position to start with. So, bring your ballots with you to the May meeting. Also in May we have our Member Appreciation Day event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 19th. You ll find more details elsewhere in this issue. It will be much like last year s event. I hope you can take the time to attend! And if you aren t member, there s still time to apply for membership. Our April meeting was a big success with Bret Abner presenting on Bulk Brine Systems. Bret s program was very enlightening with lots of input and questions from the group. We had a big crowd by the way, so would like to thank everyone for coming! For our May meeting we have Kevin Coyne with Concoa Precision Gas Controls presenting on Toxic Gas Delivery Systems. This should be a very interesting and educational discussion. Also in May we have our annual Chapter Reports to Society. If any of you have been active in any State or National Code Committees, or any ASPE committees, please let me know. Society would like to know any involvement with the chapter members. Our next big event will be the Golf Outing. If you haven t already heard from Pete, you soon will! He has been busy setting things up for another great time on August 4th. So put that date on your calendar. See you at the next meeting, Gary Borgmann, CPD Page 2
3 Hello Evansville ASPE! Sam Schenk, CPD President, Evansville Satellite Chapter of ASPE Now that spring is in full swing, we can enjoy warm sunny days and cool evenings outdoors. I hope everyone enjoys the great temperatures before getting into the heat of summer. The trade show was a huge success. We had over 425 apprentices, instructors, and building officials that visited our manufacturers. I would like to thank all the vendors for bringing their products and spending the day with us. I would also like to thank Jason Blondin, JATC Coordinator, with Plumber and Steamfitters Local 136 for hosting this event for the fourth consecutive year. This event would not be possible without the countless hours from all of the volunteers and ASPE board members. Special thanks goes out to Jacob Evans with Ferguson, Brian Lowe with Edward Jones and Mike Borman with J.E. Shekell. Without these three, the trade show would not have been possible. Jacob, Brian and Mike spent many hours and had numerous meetings to make sure the trade show would go off without a hitch. Well done guys! Don t forget to mark your calendars for our golf outing on Tuesday, June 20th! The Birdie Sponsorship is only $375 and includes four player fees with a hole sponsorship. Hole sponsorships are $100. If you are interested in a sponsorship or have any questions, please contact Steve Sitzman at Steve.Sitzman@skanska.com. Thank you to John Buechlein with Affiliated Steam and Hot Water, for the presentation on Steam Distribution. The steam demonstration was a great way to see various steam traps and steam in action. The May meeting will be held on Thursday, the 25th at 11:30 at Red Fez. The presentation will be on commercial expansion application and selection. The presenter with be Ken Rutherford of Amtrol. Thanks, Sam Page 3
4 Dann Holmes ASPE Region 2 Affiliate Liaison Just when you thought the elections were over, here they are again. This time, we won t be seeing a billion dollars spent on ads and politicians taking over the airwaves. These elections will be quick, quiet, but none the less important. Will you be voting for your local ASPE representatives? Better yet, are you volunteering to run for a chapter board position? Please consider it, being involved in ASPE at the board and regional level has brought me more personal satisfaction than I can express. Since we are talking about change, how about changes to the plumbing and mechanical codes. Do you have a current copy of the 2015 IPC, IMC and/or IFGC books? Do you like to read the commentaries? If so, please contact me. As a member of the Code Study & Development Group of SE MI, I have these publications in stock and ready for shipment. For those of you in Michigan, I also have the amended Michigan code books. These books are priced to sell and often less expensive than ordering directly from our friends at ICC. The Eastern Michigan Chapter of ASPE will be hosting the Region 2 Presidents Meeting on June 2-3 in Detroit. This should be a memorable event for those who think of Detroit as a crumbling city that filed for bankruptcy. It was, they did, but not anymore. The incredible amount of building undergoing renovations, professional sport teams returning to the city, new stadiums, Midtown, the M-1 Rail, the Grand Prix, an international riverboat cruise are just a few of the events waiting our ASPE guests. You need to add Detroit to your bucket list! For those of you that love to golf, many of our chapters are hosting their annual golf outings this month. These are usually their biggest fund raisers of the year so please open up your wallet and let your charitable donations out. Best regards, Let me know what you think: Dann Holmes ASPE Region 2 Affiliate Liaison NSF International Building Water Health Business Development Manager r2al@aspe.org or (734) Page 4
