Program: Tim Kwong: Professional Photographer s Secrets Tim Kwong started his photographic career when he got his first camera to just take pictures of his children. Unlike most starters in photography, Tim read the manual to his camera. In addition, he purchased a few books along the way to help. It was a client who was a part-time photographer and noticed Tim s talent. Tim continues to evolve his skill and expand his business. He talked about the basics of photography to the members and guests. He described a photo as capturing a three-dimensional moment in time on a two-dimensional surface. Tim wants to add a fourth dimension: he wants his photos to tell a story. Tim s goal is for the viewer to connect with the image. Tim has several tips for taking better photos. He recommends that you read the manual and know your equipment. DSLR cameras allow for greater creativity over phones and point and shoot cameras. Tim emphasized that most poor photos are ones that are out of focus. When taking pictures of people, he suggests that you focus on the eyes. One of Tim s secrets is to take pictures at different angles. He uses ladders to shoot downward and kneepads to get low and shoot upward. Mark Twain once said, The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why. Tim has found out why. Dr. Charyl Silva, Interact Advisor FUTURE ROTARIAN: Jacob Aguilar Jacob Aguilar is currently a sophomore at River City High School, and he joined Interact during his Freshman year. Jacob has been targeted to be a future board member and he ultimately wants to be Community Service Chair. With over two years of high school remaining, Jacob already knows what he wants to do. It his goal to go into engineering, and he has identified Cal and UC Davis as his target schools. Jacob wants to make a difference in Interact by increasing the synthesis of the members of the club so that no one would feel left out.
