We were treated to a tuxedoed Jamie Nelson as our greeter. He would greet you or show you to a table. Jack Kasper just returned from vacation bearing gifts for President Jen, a cap and scarf. The two highlights of the meeting before getting to the speaker for the day were a two by two with Bill McIntyre and Mark (Marky) Mraule; and Drew the By Barry K. Hogan rocker Houghten past president. The Bill and Marky show was a contrast of the old and the new and all done in good humor. Bill never ceases to amaze us with his quips, pregnant pauses, or curious looks. Drew looked is dapper best in his red rasta hat and white fur coat. I m sure I got one of the kisses that he through or was that more on 2

Who knows? Drew s term as president was just as lively as he is at each Friday s meeting. Our speaker for the meeting was Capital Public Radio President and General Manager, Rick Eytcheson. It seems that a large portion of the Rotarian audience at Friday s meeting are long term followers of either the classical music, jazz, news and the like put out over the airwaves or streaming on-line by Sacramento s largest public radio station. Rick told us that the listening audience in Sacramento pretty much models the listening model nationwide split fairly evenly between liberal, conservative, independent and the noncommitted. Counter to popular belief, the governmental support from Washington D.C. amounts to only $500,000 and represents a small portion of the overall CPR budget. Although Rick didn t get a chance to mention it, this year Capital Public Radio has won four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio and Television Digital News Association and a national award from the Association of Health Care Journalists. We are truly fortunate to have such excellent public radio in the greater Sacramento area. Wise Presidential Words Support San Juan schools by running or walking in Race for the STARS on Saturday, May 19 at Rio Americano High School on American River Drive. Rotarians are needed to sponsor an Encina student runner for $12. The 10K and 5K races start at 5 PM. Rich Hanna of Capitol Road Race Management is handling the race, and will provide chip timing for this fast, flat race course. Pam Lapinski got a note from an active Encina teacher who is hosting an art table at the after race party and she said some of the Encina kids are interested in running, and she is looking for "sponsors" for them. The student cost to run is only $12 until Wed of next week, when it goes up to $17. Participants get a sport bag and goodies. Adults are only $25 preregistration, and money goes to direct to teacher grants in SJ schools. Registration is at 2
