The Community Solutions Center is a collaboration among several partners including FASWVA, Roanoke Police, Goodwill Industries of the Valleys and Northwest Roanoke community leaders. Funding supporters for the project include Food Lion Feeds and the City of Roanoke. This facility opened in 2018 and houses several program areas including a production and training kitchen, which will be used to prepare meals for the food bank s Café to Grow children s food truck and host culinary job training courses. Other areas include a fresh foods market, an outreach space for Roanoke Police and a community room for meetings and workshops. 4 Kiwanis News April 1, 2019 Page 4 KPAD Update: All KPAD teams are ascending rapidly in their Climb to the Top. And, we are thrilled with the addition of a new team; Billy Vincent has joined us as a solo climber traveling fast. He, Mike Loveman, Rupert Cutler, and Bart Wilner have all sold $500 or more in tickets; terrific. Deserving special recognition is one long-term member, who asked to remain anonymous, who sold their first KPAD ticket since joining the Club; inspirational. At the end of our second week of ticket sales we recognize the Vinson van Goghs, Captained by Henry Jernigan and Co-Captained by Jeanne Bollendorf, as our top team for the week with $1,010 in ticket sales; their does appear to be an art to a Climb to the Top. Don Wilson captained the Himalayan Hangdogs to second place this week with $770 in sales. There is a very tight race going on with cumulative ticket sales; one small slip on the ice could alter the standing. The Dragoon s Toothies, Captained by David Lemon, has sold $2,335 to date, and the Kilimanjaro Crazies, Captained by Luke Young and Co-Captained by Sherry Dillon, has sold $2,225 to date. Overall, we sold $3,855 this week. That brings our total in ticket sales up to $10,440; more than our Club has sold at this point in any previous year. Impressive. Beginning at our meeting on April 3, the top weekly KPAD ticket selling individual and team will receive an award for them to keep; as will the team with the highest percentage of their members having sold tickets. And, personalized KPAD t-shirts are being made available to everyone who sells $200 or more. Sweat Equity Opportunities: Clean Valley Day - April 6, from 9am-12pm the environment committee is looking for volunteers to participate in a clean-up of the Lick Run Greenway from Washington Park to Target at Valley View.**this clean-up activity may be adjusted to involve clean-up in and around Washington Park, stay tuned for more info** The Blue Ridge Marathon is on Saturday April 13 and our Club will be assisting with the race by providing volunteers on race day. It is a perfect sweat equity opportunity for us to show support a community-wide event while earning funds for our Centennial Year efforts! Please use the link below to register as a volunteer. 6 The National Day of Prayer (which ours coincides with) brings together thousands of people across the country in prayer. There is power in conscious company, and if there was ever a time in our history that the power of prayer was needed it is now! Tim Mulherin will be in the foyer at Wednesday meetings with tickets. Those of you who have sold tickets please bring the money and ticket stubs to Tim. Please remember to fill out the stubs with attendee s name and faith preference.
