1 OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF US JCI SENATE REGION V September 1, 2014 Volume 1, Issue 1 The Bus Report We Believe: That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life; That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations; That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather than of men; That earth s great treasure lies in human personality; And that service to humanity is the best work of life. 2 Page 2 The Bus Report Illinois JCI Senate Hello Region V JCI Senators, We are off to a running start for this Senate year. Our slogan in Illinois this year is Here we go! Think it! Believe it! Achieve it! Dig it! Anything in life we do, whether it concerns our own personal matters or Senate projects, if we think it out, believe in the plan, we will achieve our ending goal with positive results. Dig it! Some of our goals this year are Have Fun, Growth by one, Return the favor, Activate newer senators, and Have fun! I d like to thank my traveling Illini delegation, the Here We Go Team, for their support this summer. From Region VI Picnic in Iowa, then onto the always fabulous Ohio Pig Roast with yours truly kissing the big hog again and enjoying the fine meal. Thanks to President Scott Fitzgerald #63745 and the Ohio Senators for a great time. Then back to our home state, Illinois, for our annual Changing of the Shirts. I would like to thank all Region V Senators who attended the Red White and Blue Picnic in Carlyle. Hope all of you had a enjoyable weekend! It was truly an honor to have US JCI National President Randy Young #46420 to swear in our new board. A big Thank You to the Gateway, Mississippi Valley and South Region as our hosts. Here we go! Think it, Believe it, Achieve it, Dig it Thanks to President Steve Tucker #68987 and all the Kentucky Senators for a great time at the 10 th Annual Kentucky JCI Bourbon Bash. My hat is off to all the chairmen and committee members of all these events for such great food, drink, and good old fashion senate hospitality and fellowship. Later on in the year you will see Illinois visiting Indiana and Michigan. Illinois has started many of their important financial projects for this Senate year. We go to the Bruegala in Bloomington where we will be assisting as ticket takers and beer pourers. On Labor Day we are in Hoopeston assisting the Hoopeston Jaycees taking money at the gate for their annual Sweetcorn Festival. Then our major money maker; working the U of I concession stand during the six Illini home games. Some long hours, but we all have fun! Our next meeting will be held in Lisle, IL on September in conjunction with the great Illinois Jaycees. I hope some of Region V will visit. You are always welcome! Then we are on to Gettysburg for the Fall US JCI Board Meeting. In closing, I would just like to say it is quite an honor and privilege to represent the Illinois JCI Senate as their 48 th president and being a member of great Region V. Illinois will definitely be Hopping on the Region V Bus to Success! Bob Digger McGraugh # th Illinois JCI President Michigan JCI Senate JCI Senators, There is one quarter in the books and I have been having a blast traveling to meet new friends. I've been able to attend Ohio's Pig Roast and Kentucky's Bourbon Bash thus far and look forward to traveling to Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Toronto in the next couple of months. Here in Michigan we just had our summer Golf / Picnic and fun was had by all. We had about 35 people in attendance including 11 Past Presidents from Michigan Senate. We also had the pleasure to host President Mike Andrews from Indiana, President Scott Fitzgerald from Ohio and National Vice President Gary Richey from Ohio. Thank you to all that attended I certainly appreciate your support. I would also like to take this opportunity to promote 2 upcoming events here in Michigan. The first is Boarder Bash which will be held in Dundee, Michigan October For more information or to register please go to The second is our Post Holiday Party which will be held in Southgate, Michigan at the Crystal Gardens Hall. There currently is no registration form for this event but I wanted everyone to have the date which is January 10, Michigan is focusing on activation of senators this year and thus far we have had some wonderful success. I am looking forward to seeing many of you in Gettysburg, PA. If you need any help and or information from Michigan please feel free to give me call. Gary L. Bulson # nd President Cool Change

3 Indiana JCI Senate Page 3 Wow! This summer sure went fast! The Region 5 Bus Tour has seen us in Ohio for the Annual Pig Roast (great job Ohio!), Illinois for their Annual Picnic (loads of fun) Kentucky for the 10 th Annual Bourbon Bash (our first, but definitely not our last!) and finally on to Michigan for their golf and picnic event (great job reviving an old project). Whew! With all that touring, we have been observing all the states and their great summer projects looking for ideas for an event for Indiana to host in the future so that we too can be part of the Region 5 Tour. After much work, and high stress levels we FINALLY have dates set for all of our meetings this year. Our first meeting will be held November 7 th through 9 th in Portage, Indiana at the Country Inn and Suites. Registration form is attached and will also be available on the Region 5 and Indiana JCI Senate websites. Our Winter Meeting will be held in the southern part of the state in Clarksville, Indiana January 23 rd through January 25 th. This will be our Joint Meeting held in conjunction with the Kentucky Senate. We are excited to announce that President Randy will be in attendance that weekend! The registration form is already on the Indiana Senate website. Finally, our Year End Election Meeting will be April 10 th through 12 th in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is always a great meeting and location. Details will be available for this meeting shortly. My theme this year is Friendships Old and New. In the few short months I have been President of the Indiana Friendships Old & New Senate I have definitely made many new friends whom I am sure will become old friends and have rekindled some old friendships! My goal this year is to reactivate some of our old Senators that haven t been active in some time and to work with the Jaycees to bestow Senatorships on deserving members and to activate them in our Senate organization. Last year Indiana developed a program for bestowing a Senatorship to a deserving individual who for whatever reason did not receive a Senatorship during their Jaycee career. We plan on bestowing another Senatorship this year. As one of Gary s lug nuts, I am enjoying the tour and hope to see many more of you on the roads as we travel! 4 Page 4 The Bus Report Ohio JCI Senate Region V, It has been a wonderful summer! My family and I have had an awesome time traveling around Region V. We enjoyed seeing many friends at Ohio s Pig Roast. Watching President Randy, and many others kiss the pig was a highlight of the weekend. We then traveled on to Illinois picnic and very much enjoyed the food and fellowship. My family enjoyed the lake and sunshine! In Kentucky, we also enjoyed lots of good, fellowship and a wonderful fireworks display. (oh, and some bourbon samples, as well!) Ohio met the weekend of August 15 to hold our first business meeting in Canton, Ohio with the Ohio Jaycees. Past National President Bruce Geddes and I received Presidential medallions from Jaycee President Dennis Coy for our Kentucky JCI Senate Greetings Region V Senators, Well the KY JCI Senate 10th annual Bourbon Bash was a great success. I hope all of yall that were able to attend had a wonderful time and were able to recover the next week. ( I know it took me about that long) I want to say once again Thank You to our host John and Kathy Kelley for the hospitality and the use of their beautiful lakeside cabin which makes this event possible. I would also like to give a special Thank You to Jim Dulin, Will Chester and John Voshel who all co-chaired this event and helped it all come together, and to all the many from around Kentucky and Region V who worked to make it all happen. work with the Jaycees. Thanks to everyone who came out for the weekend. Then, we traveled to Lancing, MI for their state picnic. Again there was plenty of wonderful food and friendship. Our next business meeting is November 7-9, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza in Columbus, Ohio. We will once again be meeting in conjunction with the Ohio Jaycees. I am already planning for my trip to Gettysburg and the upcoming Border Bash. As summer comes to an end, I just want to once again thank you all for a great summer full of food, friendship and fun. Scott Fitzgerald #63745 President Ohio JCI Senate Thank you and I along with KY look forward to next year. C.S.I. Continuing Senate Involvement Friends Helping Friends I think the flyer for hotel and registration is already on the site or will be soon and I look forward to seeing many good folks at this event which is also my birthday weekend Mike, so I expect a present. hahahaha. Well Region V, I think that is about it for now. I hope this letter finds all in good spirits. Steve Tucker #69897 KY JCI Senate President

5 Page 5 Return the Favor Think back to your younger days in the Jaycees. Yeah, you remember them going to meetings, not understanding anything that was going on, yet jumping in feet first and getting involved in everything. As time went on, you began to show some leadership skills, and you probably remember that "elder" member who put his or her arm around your shoulder and started to guide you on your way to Jaycee stardom. Odds are, that "elder" was a JCI Senator, and they helped shape the Jaycee you were to become. Due to their mentoring, you eventually joined them in the elite group of the best of the best: a JCI Senator. Now, it s your time to do the same thing for a young Jaycee in your area, whether that member is in the chapter where you were a Jaycee, or in a chapter in your current home town. Now, it s time for you to "Return the Favor". The Return the Favor program is designed to encourage JCI Senators to give back to the organization that helped them become the leaders they are today. As a past National President of the United States JCI Senate worded it, the JCI Senate works in a "Spirit of Cooperation, Not Competition" with the Jaycees, assisting only when asked. Return the Favor IS A chance to stay involved with the Jaycee organization. A prospect to give back to the organization that meant so much to you in your earlier days. An opportunity to continue to have an impact on the local community. An opening to continue making new friends. An opportunity to have an impact on the development of future leaders. Return the Favor IS NOT A need to do the work for the Jaycees. A time to take over operation of the local chapter. Submission Deadlines: September 2, 2014; January 2, 2015; and June 1, 2015 Please visit the US JCI Senate website at php/resources-library/libraryreportsforms?view=category&id=58 for appropriate forms to be completed and sent to: US JCI Senate Return the Favor Tim Vincent # Palermo Drive Ballwin, MO tlvin412@sbcglobal.net H: C: W: The theme Reflect.Inspire is my hope for the USJCI Senate this year. The theme is embedded in our Jaycee triangle to encourage us to REFLECT on our rich heritage and experience. We INSPIRE others through action such as Return the Favor, providing great hospitality to facilitate relationship building, and supporting our scholarship foundation.
