26 Capitol Introduces the Star Line In May, 1960, Capitol brought out its new Star Line of reissue releases, consisting at first of four albums from the existing catalog and eleven new greatest-hits compilations. Each album in the Star Line sported a metallic gold label. At first both the previously-released albums and the new compilations sported back covers that were unique to the release, but in 1961 and 1962, the Star Line releases used a common back cover design depicting other records that were available in the series. The Star Line expanded in December, 1961, to include singles as well and became an effective method for Capitol to make available material from the back catalog. All of Capitol s biggest stars such as Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Nat King Cole, and the Beach Boys had releases in the Star Line.
