CALL TO ORDER MINUTES OF THE STUDENT SENATE SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY EDWARDSVILLE Student Success Center 1203 Monday, August 28, p.m. The Student Senate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville convened Monday, August 28, 2017, in the Student Success Center room Vice President Megan Gooch called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Senator Gaddis moved to approve the minutes from April 24, Senator Krichevsky seconded. The motion passed by general consent. IV. Guest Speakers: Dr. Jeffrey Waple, Vice Chancellor Student Affairs; Lora Miles, Associate Vice Chancellor Student Affairs; Paula Birke, Director of Business Operations; William Winter, Budget Director Office of Financial Affairs; Cathy Foland, Bursar s Office; Courtney Boddie, Director of Counseling Services. Dr. Jeffrey Waple, with the assistance of Lora Miles, Paula Birke, Bill Winter, and Cathy Foland, addressed the senate in regards to a proposal to change the current fee system to a per-credit hour, consolidated, fee system. The senate was asked to review the proposal s main points and address the speakers with questions and concerns about the proposal. Courtney Boddie, the new Director of Counseling Services, addressed the senate restating the importance and purpose of the department. He then addressed the senate about his personal goals and ideas for Counseling Services for the coming

2 2 Page August 28, school year, as well as a number of specialized groups targeting highstress situations. V. SENATOR REPORTS: There were no senator reports for the August 28, VI. EXECUTIVE REPORTS: There were no executive reports for the August 28, Vice President Gooch: Adds: Senators this year will have the opportunity to be part of a constitution review committee for Student Government. VII. ADDITIONS TO AGENDA: None. VIII. OLD BUSINESS: None. IX. NEW BUSINESS: A. Program Request Panhellenic Council & National Panhellenic Council: Senator Gaddis moved to approve the proposed program request from the National Panhellenic Council and Panhellenic Council for the Know Better/Do Better & Campus Racism Hack-A-Thon with Laurence Ross event, October 11, 2017 for $6, broken down as follows: Speaker/Artist Fees $6, Total $6,000.00

Indian Student Association: Senator Krichevsky moved to change and approve the proposed program request for Diwali and Dandiya night from $2, to $1,795.00, broken down as follows: Advertising Costs $ Copying/Printing $50.00 Speaker/Artists Fees $ Facility Charges $ Other $ Total $1, Senator Washington Seconded the motion of change and approval, passing it by acclimation.

OPEN FORUM None. XIII. ANNOUNCEMENTS Director Kelly Jo Karnes announced that the SafeZone welcome reception would be held Tuesday August 29, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in the Hickory/Hackberry Room. Welcomed new Student Government Office Support Stacie Colclasure Students would have the opportunity to give blood Wednesday August 31, 2017 from 11-4 in the Mississippi/Illinois room as a means to help with the tragedies occurring in Texas. The American Pharmacist Association/Academy of Student Pharmacists is hosting a trivia night September 22 at 7 p.m. at the Collinsville VFW Black Girls Rock is hosting their annual Jamboree Wednesday September 13, 2017 starts at 7p.m. and preshow begins at 6 p.m. doors open at 5:45. Guest Speakers: Lisa Thompson-Gibson, MA, LPC, Counselor and Suicide Prevention Project Coordinator. Lisa Thompson-Gibson addressed the senate in regards to ICARE campaign and other events in support of mental health awareness. She relayed the positive feedback received from Fresh Check day. Out of The Darkness Walk will be on Saturday September 30, 2017 at the SIUE Gardens and SG volunteers are greatly welcomed. Check in is at 10:00 AM, the walk begins at 11 AM, and the event should commence at 1pm. She relayed that Cognito Training is still available; the Freshman Screening day will be October 10, V. ANNOUNCEMENTS SOLO (Student Organization Leadership Orientation) will be on Saturday September 23, The PHC is interested in bringing a new Sorority to campus and will be bringing the three finalists to campus, starting today with Alpha Chi Omega. Tomorrow will be Kappa Kappa Gamma. The third will present on September 23, 2017 and will be Phi Mu. Each presentation will be at 6 PM. Meet the Greeks will be on Thursday in the Ballroom. RSVP for Hash Brown Huddle. Stacie will be collecting RSVPs for Dinner at the Chancellor s house on Thursday. Dress is casual. XIV. The motion was passed by acclimation. XI. OPEN FORUM None. XII. ANNOUNCEMENTS Homecoming is next week. Would be great if SG participated in the spirit contest. We did win last year. The recent events that have occurred on campus have been very upsetting, so it is important that students take a stand. Keep in mind also that the administration is working diligently to both solve and prevent issue, even if we don t see it. The University Diversity and Inclusion Board have monthly meetings. This upcoming topic is on Affirmative action. Sig Ep is having a fundraiser at Bread Co. on October 11 from 4-8 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. All proceeds go to them.

17 5 Page September 25, 2017 Board of Trustees is hosting the first ever Diversity Excellence Lecture and Awards on Oct 3 rd on the Carbondale Campus at 5:30 in the Morris Library. Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion is hosting a dynamics in racism session which will engage the community to reduce acts of hate and improve cultural competency. This will be on Oct. 10, 2017 from 8AM-11:30 AM in the conference center on the 2 nd floor of the MUC. A registration link should have been sent to all students via from Dr. Vanessa Brown. The administration hosted an open forum on Friday in conference room A. It allowed students of all backgrounds to discuss anything that they have seen or think are areas of concern on campus. Guest Speakers: Dr. Jeffrey Waple, Vice Chancellor Student Affairs Dr. Jeffrey Waple addressed the senate to speak on behalf of and answer questions regarding the proposal of the new Bias Incident Report Protocol. This response protocol will serve as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville s response to instances of bias and the reporting process available for students. Students will be able to file a report either online, or at offices across the university campus. Students will also have the option of filing their report anonymously if they do not wish to share their information with the incident response team outlined within the proposal. Dr. Waple also addressed the senate with the changes being made for the graduation ceremonies for the Spring 2018 Commencement. The changes are meant to avoid ticketing the events and to

19 2 Page October 9, 2017 allow all guests to access the ceremony sites. The proposal combines the School of Engineering with some of the science areas of the College of Arts and Sciences to more effectively distribute graduates across the ceremonies. V. Showing them the appropriate flyer will allot a 20% donation of total bill. Speaker at 5 PM on that same Wednesday in the Meridian Ball Room. Black Girls Rock will be collaborating with University Housing on Fall Fest and are accepting donations of candy to the multicultural center. Water filter stations on every floor of the MUC. Those interested in signing up for the bowling tournament can still do so. St. Jude s Up Til Dawn will be having an event on November 11 from 10 PM -4AM. Teams of 6 can be made and will raise money for St. Judes Children Hospital. The mid-semester retreat will take place next Monday and there will be a picture taken. Polos and black pants are required. National Coming Out week is this upcoming week October 9-13 th and Gay Straight Alliance will be hosting events all week in honor of that. Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion is hosting a dynamics in racism session, which will engage the community to reduce acts of hate and improve cultural competency. This will be tomorrow, Oct. 10, 2017 from 8AM-11:30 AM in the conference center on the 2 nd floor of the MUC. The Goshen Market will be coming tomorrow and will be on the quad from 4-6 PM Leadership Luncheon will be Wednesday October 11 at 12 PM in SSC room 1203 Campus Racism Hackathon will also be on Wednesday starting at 5 PM in the Meridian Ballroom. Golf Cart Rides will take place this Thursday starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. If you sign up for a shift please be there and make sure that you are picking up all students where ever possible.
