1 SENATE AGENDA Tuesday, December 2, 2014 UNCW Azalea Coast, Fisher Student Union Senators arrive at 7:15pm; meeting convenes at 7:30pm Call to Order Pledge of Allegiance Opening Roll Call Wessels, George, Ballhaussen Open Podium Approval of Minutes November 18, 2014 Move to approve: Mebel Second: Callahan Minutes approved: Voice vote, Approved Senate Appointments Reports Tobi Polland Student Body President She had a Board of Trustees meeting two weeks ago o They didn t pass the full amount of the athletics fee. They are also looking at rightsizing athletics, so they are looking to cut indoor and outdoor track/field. They are also looking to add sand volleyball o They discussed tuition for in-state and out-of-state students: Minimal increases for in-state. For out-of-state, no increases for the first year and minimal increases for the second year o She will pass around a sheet of paper with UNCW s notables UNCW received a grant from ASG for $6,000 for the Solar Belly Compactor She is passing around a document about the proposed $50 campus fee She sent a survey a couple weeks ago. Please fill it out if you have not yet She is making a midterm year report, so post your reports on the Google Drive. The deadline is this Friday Fisher University Union will be open at 9 am on Saturday and Sunday for additional library space She is passing around notecards for people to fill out Dan McCord Student Body Vice President Committee Chairs should work to schedule their committee meetings for next semester He pulled up a survey to see if people would be interested in having all committee meetings on Thursday nights o 14 in favor, 25 against, 4 unsure

If that is you, see her after the meeting Brian Piccirilli President Pro-Tempore The Seahawk Club will be having a fundraiser on Dec 4 at Jason s Deli Our next retreat is January 24. He is passing around a sheet for people to note whether or not they are planning on attending If you are planning on missing the retreat, Dan Sara Gurley Director of Communications She and Adam ordered promotional items She potentially will not be able to serve as the Director of Communications because of the Affordable Care Act. 5 o Cary: According to guidelines, is the food supposed to be integral to the organization s mission statement or for their specific event? o Flannery: The mission statement o Marinello: Is there a way to send this back to Appropriations Committee without the food? And would it still meet deadline? o Flannery: Any denial would send this back to appropriations and it would mess up the deadlines o Frantz: They had this same request last year and we didn t fund them food, but this year they presented to us that food is integral because last year people left the event to go get food o Gagnon: This is no different than the time we funded éclairs Move to deny: Marinello Second: Pinnix o Marinello: According to our statutes, the request has to apply to their mission statement, not the objective of their event o Pinnix: Many programs we fund would be enhanced by giving food, but food is not integral to these events Motion to deny: Electronic vote, , Denied Move to approve: Nunez Second: Chiffriller o Pinnix: Our funding is limited, so keep in mind that we will be giving this money for food over funding other programs o Rickards: This opens the door for all clubs to get food o Amundsen: We already opened the door when we funded cannolis o Pinnix: When we funded the cannolis that was integral to the Godfather being shown o Chiffriller: The event is lengthy, and it is integral that there be food at this event o Marinello: Food would enhance this program, but we have to think critically about whether or not it is integral o Cary: This debate is not really fruitful o Flannery: For clarification, this event is only 4.5 hours, not 8 o Gagnon: Since they are having professionals come in, it is important that they get people to stay by providing food o Frantz: This festival is bringing in many people from the east cost, and it is necessary that they have something that keeps these people there o Kristan: Call to question o Pinnix: Objection o Vote on the objection: Voice vote, inconclusive o Hand vote to approve the call to question: , Approved Motion approved: Electronic vote, , Approved AB Yoga Club Approve program request for $176 for UNCW Welcome Back Yoga and Wellness Event
