1 A G-OP-25 Minutes THE MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 6:50 p.m. in the Boardroom, 1355 Lansdowne Street West, Peterborough. PRESENT Trustees: Mmes. Linda Ainsworth, Ruth Ciraulo (Chairperson), Christine Dunn, Michelle Griepsma, Helen McCarthy, Messrs. David Bernier, Daniel Demers. Administration: Mmes. Call to Order: Call to Order. The Chairperson, Ruth Ciraulo, called the meeting to order. 1. Approval of Agenda. Moved by Helen McCarthy, seconded by Daniel Demers, that the Open Session Agenda be approved with the addition of Recommended Actions/Presentations B.1. Delegation to the committee regarding the transportation issue for Holy Cross.

2 2015-G-OP Declarations of Conflicts of Interest. There were no declarations of conflicts of interest. 3. Approval of the Minutes of the September 14, 2015 Open Session Meeting. Moved by Daniel Demers, seconded by Christine Dunn, that the Minutes of the September 14, 2015 Open Session meeting be approved. 4. Business Arising from the Minutes. There was no business arising from the minutes. B. Recommended Actions/Presentations: 1. Delegation to the committee regarding the transportation issue for Holy Cross Parents Shannon Fife and Jenn Harrington had the first 15 minutes of the Open Session Meeting to share their concerns and advocate for reinstatement of the same means of transportation as the previous school year. As taxpayers the parents feel they are entitled to school bus service. Trustees asked clarifying questions of the delegation. Discussion ensued and administration provided clarification regarding existing transit routes and board guidelines regarding ride times for secondary students. The original motion will go the next Board meeting on Tuesday, October 27, Superintendents highlighted the pluses to having a city bus pass including, transportation after sporting events, freedom to go about the city free of charge, and the ability to get to jobs and home again.

3 2015-G-OP CPF (Canadian Parents for French) Symposium on FSL (French Second Language) Education in Ontario This symposium takes place on Saturday, October 24, It is open to parents, PIC representatives, teachers, trustees, and administrators. The cost is $95 per person and is non-refundable. that Trustees wishing to do so, be authorized to attend the Canadian Parents for French Seminar taking place on October 24, 2015 at the Marriott Hotel, Yorkville, Ontario. OCSTA: 2015 Fall Regional Meetings: Preparation for Board Presentations Regional meetings will touch on a number of areas such as faith development, President s Report and Q & A, Board presentations including community hubs and challenges faced by Boards in establishing budgets and how Provincial curriculum is adapted for use in Catholic schools. to extend the Governance Open Session meeting from 8:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Moved by Linda Ainsworth, seconded by Daniel Demers,

4 2015-G-OP Education Funding Consultation Sessions and Guide This Guide contains: Introduction Efficiencies and reinvestments Continuing to make more efficient use of school space Equity in education o Special Education Grant o First Nations, Métis and Inuit education supplement o Language grant o Students at risk Expanded accountability measures Conclusion Resources Four representatives from each school board are strongly encouraged to attend the consultation session which is November 12, 2015 for the Barrie region. Attendees should include Directors of Education, School Business Officials, Supervisory Officers and other senior school board administration staff. 3. OESC School Energy Coalition June 30, 2015 Isabel Grace answered questions regarding the ongoing matters of electricity and how Hydro One, if privatized, may impact the PVNCCDSB. 4. Enrolment and Facility Information Isabel Grace explained the elementary school facility capacity and enrolment information to the committee. Elementary schools are continuing to grow and space pressures are emerging. Some schools have had structures added as well as still having portables. In the next round of capital requests administration may be submitting requests for capital funding for additions at some sites. Some portables at secondary schools are being removed and sold. Projected enrolment and facility information for secondary schools will be available for trustees soon.
