REPORTS FOR INFORMATION C-1 Student Senate Report Student Trustee Bronwynne Harvey presented a verbal report, which included an update on the next S.O.S. (Support Our Students) conference on mental health and the upcoming Student Senate elections. Student Trustees will be elected on May 7, 2013 with a formal report being presented to the board on May 21, C-2 Staff Reports C-2-a April 26, 2013 Professional Activity Day Overview Superintendent of Education Alana Murray introduced Dufferin Elementary School Principal Staci Marck, who presented the information report and recommendation. Gaviller THAT BLUEWATER DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD RECEIVE THE OUT OF THE SHADOWS INCREASING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF MENTAL HEALTH ON APRIL 26, 2013 PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY DAY OVERVIEW REPORT FOR INFORMATION. D. COMMUNICATIONS D-1 Correspondence Chair Jan Johnstone noted that a letter was received from the County of Bruce requesting an opportunity to meet. A meeting will be arranged that the Chair, Vice-Chair and Director of Education will attend. Chair Jan Johnstone also noted a response to a previous correspondence received from the Corporation of the Municipality of Brockton. Their request will be discussed at a future Business Committee of the Whole meeting as it is a budget consideration. A newsletter from OSSTF was included as correspondence and will be available in the trustee lounge. D-2 Communications and Announcements Student Trustees/Trustees/Staff/Ministry of Education/OPSBA Chair Jan Johnstone noted a request to trustees to participate in a survey concerning trustee use of technology. Trustee John Chapman noted that three John Diefenbaker Secondary School (JDSS) students were nominated for the Youth Achievement Award and the recipient was student senator Emma-Cole McCubbin. Trustee Marg Gaviller noted that a forum Our Canada: Conversations in Democracy will be held in Owen Sound at the Bayshore Community Centre on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 7 p.m. D-3 Director/Trustee Conferences/Conventions/Out-of-District Meetings Trustee Kevin Larson provided a verbal report regarding the highlights of the recent Western Region OPSBA meeting. D-4 Calendar of Events The calendar of events was provided for information. Page 4 of 5

5 Superintendent of Education Jean Stephenson noted that the final Derby ARC meeting will be held on May 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Superintendent of Business and Treasurer Brenda Booth noted that two Public Budget Meetings will be held. The first will be on Monday, May 13, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Alexandra Community School in Owen Sound. The second meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Northport Elementary School in Port Elgin. Vice-Chair Jim Dawson noted that the Bluewater Education Foundation s 14th Annual Spring Fling would be taking place Saturday, April 20, 2013 aboard the S.S. Chi-Cheemaun. Trustee Kevin Larson reminded trustees that the SCC Networking meeting will be held on April 30, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Bluewater District School Board Education Centre. Chair Jan Johnstone announced that the Kincardine Multi-Cultural event is being held on Tuesday, May 14, E. ADJOURNMENT Motion Moved by M. McComb, Seconded by M.
