1 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME 2014 European Social Dialogue
2 Dear Friends, Königswinter, April 2014 Today, we are delighted to present you our educational programme for the year In close cooperation with our affiliated centres, we are planning to host a total of 73 educational events more than in any previous year across 26 countries. You and your fellow employee representatives are cordially invited to participate. Dialogue and networking are two key concerns of our educational activities. By introducing a wider and fuller range of participatory methods, we intend to provide the people who attend our seminars with opportunities for more intensive exchanges about current developments, challenges and best practices. Half of our educational activities over the coming year will be embedded into longer series of seminars and joint venture projects, ensuring that topical networks are established that transcend the limitations of any individual event. How to reduce the in some countries dramatically high levels of youth unemployment, how to improve the vocational training systems across Europe and what contributions employee organizations can make by in these contexts: the search for answers to these questions will continue in the 20 educational events that shall pursue the path on which we embarked three years ago when we established the series of seminars on topics related to the Europe 2020 strategy. The financial and economic crisis, globalization, structural change, restrictions of the Social Dialogue and falling membership numbers represent urgent new challenges for employee organizations in Europe. This is why one of the two joint venture projects we have planned for 2014 will focus on establishing and defining quality features for the Social Dialogue and trade union strategies. The question of how social security issues can be resolved when people have crossed borders in search of employment is becoming ever more relevant in a European Union of closely integrated nations. The second of our joint venture projects has therefore been tasked with clarifying and developing potential strategies of employee organizations in countries of both origin and destination. With Croatia having joined the European Union and Serbia having been granted the status of a candidate member state, the European integration of the Western Balkan countries is making further progress. Over the coming year, EZA will continue its special project for employee organizations in the Western Balkan region that was originally established in The second cycle of educational courses for employee representatives from Lithuania, Poland and Romania will be completed in 2014, and a third cycle will begin. Further topics of our educational programme for the year include the continuing fight against precarious employment, our engagement for the rights of the working poor, the demographic changes and occupational mental health risks. On the following pages, you will find more information about the individual host organizations of the various seminars, the venues and dates and the (planned) conference languages. We would be delighted to provide you regularly with our quarterly (electronic) newsletter EZA Aktuell which features more information about our work. You can subscribe on our web page ( or directly by . We are entering another year of exciting educational programmes and are looking forward to welcoming you at one or more of our events.
