Articles preferred via , (word documents) / photos jpg or pdf format or put in the Newsletter drawer at the league. Please put submissions on FULL pieces of paper. Thanks. President s Letter We are well into the truss repair part of our renovation project. A crew came the first week in June to remove the ceiling tiles and grid, lights and miscellaneous heating ducts and whatever else was hiding above our heads at the league. Those people brave enough to look in the front door saw a chaos of wires, debris and gigantic posts in odd places. I am assured that when the project is done all will be repaired as good or better than new. Meanwhile, we have taken up residence in the abandoned bank building across the street on the corner at 225 Front street. A lease has been signed for three years at a cost to us of $1 per year. A hearty crew of DPAL faithfuls helped to assemble and then move our chairs, tables, etc., to the new location (there was a lot of etc.) Yvonne Thompson is working hard to transfer our Point of Sale (POS) to the new location so we can continue business, signing up people interested in classes for July, Aug. and the fall. Ann Johnson is mustering her desk volunteers to work limited hours. Teachers will be arranging the new space to accommodate two classrooms. It won't be perfect, but we will be open and busy doing what we all love to do. People interested in our monthly shows will have to wait until we return to the league in the fall. Sorry. We are going to try to keep everyone informed and up to date on our progress with pictures so everyone who contributed or plans to contribute or is just curious and will be excited enough to contribute to the roof fund can see for themselves what is going on without having to wear a hard hat and get in the way. Exciting times. Kay Wahlgren President
2 2 SUMMER CLASSES -EDUCATION - NANCY ANDERSON The DuPage Art League is undergoing construction at our building at 218 Front Street, Wheaton; signs of our progress are visible in the dumpster which will haul away the old roof and ceilings. While this work is continuing, classes will be held in the old Bank of America building across the street from the league. Both Session B, beginning on July 11, and Session C, beginning on August 8, will take place there, and we hope to return to our regular classrooms at the start of the fall session, but as with all construction, this cannot be guaranteed. Class registration is available by mail or by phone. May also be available at the new location (225 W. Front St. (old bank building)) between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm weekdays. (The staffers have the discretion of opening the door.) Please refer to the website of the art league for current information. PLEIN AIR PAINTING BY: ROBERT PENNOR - JULY 10TH AT ADAMS PARK BOARD NOTES: CAROL KINCAID SECRETARY June 9th Board We have a new temporary location So that the league can stay open and offer classes this summer the board decided to rent, for a very nominal fee, the Bank of America building located just across the street at the corner of Wheaton and Front Streets. We have a three year lease there which started on June1st. While our construction is going on this will be our central location and all summer session B and C classes will be held here. Many many thanks: Kay thanked the many league members who organized, sorted, wrapped and then carted much of our class supplies to this temporary location. Besides class room supplies, our phone and computers are now in this location as well. Membership Extended: Because of our construction and its disruption of gallery shows among other things, it was decided by the board to extend our current members memberships until December 2016, rather than the normal date of August 31st. So, dues for the 2016/17 year will not be due until December 31 and memberships will then run from January 1 thru December 31st for this year and the following years. Half year membership will run from June 1st to Dec. 31. Classes: Nancy is hopeful that the Fall schedule of classes will be ready by Aug. 1st. It is also hoped that our construction will be completed by then so we can be back at 218 Front Street for our Fall classes. Construction: The league s truss/roof renovation is well under way. After needed supplies had been moved on May 31st and June 1 to our new location, workers were busy taking down ceilings, lights, walls etc, in preparation for the installation of new trusses and supports. Hopefully all will be done in time for our Fall classes. In the meantime, we will be using our new location for our activities.
3 3 MEMBERSHIP /GIFT SHOP VP Membership: Yvonne Thompson Hi Members! I am the bringer of glad tidings of great joy..oh, hang on, it s not Christmas yet! But I do have some news I am happy to bring to you. Because your art league is out of commission at the moment, I have been thinking of a way to say Thank you for your patience. The Board have agreed.we are extending your membership at no extra charge until December 31st! There is another reason to do this. We always seem to forget our membership year starts September 1st and so in future it will start January 1. New year.renew your membership! Maybe also a good gift from your loved ones when they can t find something as a gift for you at Christmas or a great gift for a friend. This will mean the membership year will run January 1st until December 31st, with a half year membership starting June 1st. Of course you don t have to wait until then. Some of you may not know that you can renew your membership at any time. As all the sales are on the database if is easy to check, plus I update them at the end of every day. So say you will be away in December, you can renew anytime before you leave. That way you won t miss a newsletter, blast or calling post! GIFT SHOP Yvonne Thompson Chair I hope you are making good use of this time without the shows and classes at the art league by making some items for Yuletide Treasures. We will be receiving for our Christmas Show from Wednesday October 26th until Saturday October 29th. We will install the show on HALLOWEEN! Be prepared for some whacky costumes that day well at least from me! I have had a few phone calls about when you can bring stock back in for the gift shop. All I can say for now is, not until the area is free from construction and dust. It could be September or as early as August. Just keep watching the website, newsletters and Facebook. We will keep you posted.
