1 TANGIPAHOA PARISH SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDINGS AUGUST 7, 2012 The Tangipahoa Parish School Board met in regular session Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board room, Puleston Road, Amite, Louisiana, with President Chris Cohea presiding. MEMBERS PRESENTS: Ann Smith, Gail Pittman-McDaniel, Andy Anderson, Al Link, Brett Duncan, Eric Dangerfield, Rose Dominguez and Sandra Bailey-Simmons MEMBERS ABSENT: None President Cohea led the Pledge of Allegiance. It was moved by Ms. Bailey-Simmons, seconded by Mr. Anderson, to approve the Board minutes of July 17, 2012 as distributed. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted. It was moved by Mr. Duncan, seconded by Ms. Bailey-Simmons, to waive the rules to add an item regarding policy revisions to the Policy Committee to the agenda in order to meet the mandated adoption deadline of September 1, Hearing no It was moved by Mr. Duncan, seconded by Ms. Bailey-Simmons, to add an item regarding various policy revisions to the Policy Committee to the agenda. Hearing no It was moved by Ms. Smith, seconded by Mr. Link, to waive the rules to delete Item A #46 from the Personnel Committee Report of August 6, Hearing no Ms. Bailey-Simmons introduced Rev. Louis Husser. Rev. Husser proposed a family involvement incentive that would give family members an avenue to be directly involved in students academic success. It was moved by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Ms. Bailey-Simmons, to approve the Committee and Delegation Reports contained on the agenda. Following are the reports as approved: FINANCE COMMITTEE JULY 17, 2012: 1. The Committee reviewed the Accounts Payable/Check Register dated May 16, 2012 to June 15, 2012 in the amount of $12,956, It was moved by Ms. Smith, seconded by Ms. Dominguez, to approve using the Travel Reimbursement Rates for the fiscal year. Hearing no 3. It was moved by Ms. Dominguez, seconded by Ms. Smith, to approve renewing the Student Activity Insurance for the school year with Regions Insurance Agency for premium of $93, Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted. 4. It was moved by Ms. Cohea, seconded by Ms. Smith, to approve Bid # , Milk and Milk Products, with the milk awarded to Bordon s and milk products awarded to Blue Bell Creameries using escalator unit prices. Hearing no 5. It was moved by Ms. Cohea, seconded by Ms. Smith, to defer the Technology Committee s recommendation for and Maintenance Erate contracts to the next meeting.

Superintendent Mark Kolwe stated that the SLU Cooperative Endeavor Agreement is in the final stages of development. It was moved by Ms. Dominguez, seconded by Mr. Anderson, to accept the Superintendent Goals. Hearing no Superintendent Kolwe recognized Ms. Frances Wells, newly appointed Assistant Principal at Independence High School. 6
7 Item 7, Consider recommendation to terminate employment of a probationary teacher, was deferred to the next Board meeting. It was agreed that the probationary teacher would be on leave without pay until the next Board meeting on August 21, There was no Public Input. In personal privilege, Ms. Bailey-Simmons recognized her grandchildren. In personal privilege, Mr. Duncan announced that the Hammond Delegation meeting is set for August 8, 2012, 6:00 p.m. at the African American Heritage Museum in Hammond. He stated that Mr. Lionel Jackson, Assistant Superintendent, will have a PowerPoint presentation of the Virtual Academy and Ms. Theresa Hamilton, Chief Academic Officer, will have an update on the status of the Desegregation Order. He thanked Mr. Dangerfield for organizing the meeting. In personal privilege, Ms. Cohea announced a Districtwide PTA training at Midway Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m, Saturday, August 11, She presented birthday cards to Ms. Bailey-Simmons and Mr. Jackson. It was moved by Ms. Dominguez, seconded by Ms. Smith, to enter into Executive Session to discuss the cases of Joyce M. Moore vs. TPSB; Courtney Warren vs. TPSB; and Lisa Vernon, et al vs. TPSB. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted. The Board entered Executive Session. The Board returned to Open Session. No action was taken in the cases of Joyce M. Moore vs. TPSB; Courtney Warren vs. TPSB; and Lisa Vernon, et al vs. TPSB. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
