1 The Scribed Line Newsletter for the Oregon Historical Modelers Society (OHMS) September 2014 Volume 2014/Issue 09 Albany Art and Air Festival Aug IPMS Albany presented a display at the annual Art and Air Festival. The club put on a display of more than 200 models for the 3 days of the event. The highly active club had also had members building models and a junior progressive build of a Monogram 1/48 F-18E. OHMS should try to make it down to Albany for next year s event to show our support for our fellow Oregon IPMS chapter. (Photos by Larry Randel) Message from the Editor It s almost Show Time By Larry Randel Of course it is that time of year again where our annual show at Evergreen Air & Space Museum is almost upon us on September 20. You will note the show flyer is on Pages 6-7 and other details of the upcoming show such as the special award list and our annual appeal for Raffle items are on Page 5. The awards are on their way to being complete, Here is a sample of the Special Awards that President Chris Binnett and award maker extraordinaire have worked up for this year. I had many inquiries last year after our show from other clubs across the country wanting to know who did our awards and they were surprised to find they are entirely a home grown product from within the club. We should be very proud of the high quality awards we have for our show. Now if I could only figure out some way to win one of them. I hope to see all of you at the show and as has been asked many times, please find some capacity you can help out in the many tasks it takes to run the show. I want to thank you all in advance for the usual awesome job. I would like to put in a thank you to John Geigle of J &S Hobbies in Vancouver for offering OHMS members a 10% discount. Also J & S is now open on Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm for weekend shopping courtesy of new weekend employee Andy Doty. John Geigle will also have a huge amount of models at our show so give him and the other vendors your support and money for the wares they are bringing to the show. 2 Page 2 Volume 2014/Issue 09 September 2014 August 19, 2014 Meeting Notes By: Brian Yee President Chris B. opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. There weren t any new visitors at the meeting although the chairs were all filled with one of our best non-auction turnouts in a long time. We rearranged the orientation of the chairs, and people in the back could hear fine at the beginning of the meeting. As the activity in the bar downstairs increased, however, it became more difficult to hear. We are on Guardian Games calendar for regular meetings. (Build Night on September 2 was on two sets of tables more centrally located, and the lighting was better.) Model Show business: The Museum is good to go. Vendor tables are sold out. Set up will be Bruce, Mel, Brian, Chris, Lynn B.? Judging will be the show foible as it s the only time constrained activity. Larry Randel needs an assistant for the show, the club needs someone to step up for this task. We need donations for the kit raffle, badly, says Bruce M., who is in charge of the raffle. Awards are well along, ribbons are in hand, tables are reserved. Advertising? Oregon City Model Club needs help. Gary Hunley (garyhunley52@gmail.com) says the club needs models, supplies, for disabled, differently abled modelers. They meet first Saturday of the month, 10-12, at the First Baptist Church in OC. Nice models this month included Bruce s BT-7 collapsed bridge diorama. How often does one get to model with a hammer? Apparently, a hammer was used to get the timber bridge splintering just right. The club meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm. Upcoming Events September 16, 2014 OHMS monthly meeting. Monthly contest. 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Guardian Games (Level Up Room). For times and entry forms, see the club website. I am appealing to you with my annual plea for kit donations for our auction. I personally believe our auction is one of the best of the Northwest model shows and seems to generate a lot of interest and excitement at the show as well as adding some additional funds for the club coffer. This is in thanks because of some really nice kits and accessories that have been donated in past years by our club members and show vendors. So, like years past, let's look thru that stash of UNBUILT kits and pick out one or several that you know you will probably never will get around to building or just feel like being generous and donate it or them to the auction. If you have added items - such as PE parts, special decal sheets or resin add-ons that you added to the kit, please make note of those items as they definitely pique the interest and desires of the raffle ticket buyers If you are planning to come to the show (and why wouldn't you?), you can bring your kits with you for the auction table. Again, a BIG thanks in advance for your donation(s). The success of the auction is totally based on your generosity and is much, much appreciated! Hope to see you at the show... Your auctioneer, Bruce McKinney Best Extreme Weathering: Rust Bucket sponsored by Chris Binnett Best Extreme Weathering: Dust & Dirt sponsored by Chris Binnett Best Aircraft from a Pre-1980 Kit sponsored by Mas Kirkland
