1 CHAPTER NEWS IT S BACK!!! The anticipation is building! The nominations for the 2014 Suncoast EMMY Awards will be revealed on the chapter website Wednesday, October 15th. But some of you won t have to wait that long! Sneak Peek is back! 2 CHAPTER NEWS NBC 6 s JOE ROSE TO RETIRE IN DECEMBER nbcmiami.com After almost 20 years of sports broadcasting at NBC 6 South Florida/WTVJ, Joe Rose is signing off from television at the end of this year. Joe has covered Super Bowls, the Heat s NBA Championships, the Marlins World Series Championships, the Hurricanes National Championships and his beloved Miami Dolphins, all with his insightful and unique charm, said Larry Olevitch, NBC 6 President and General Manager. We are grateful to Joe s commitment to NBC 6 and our viewers and we will be sure to celebrate his tenure at the station later this year with a special send-off. Joe Rose Rose has been doing double duty in broadcasting, as sportscaster and sports analyst for NBC 6, hosting his own sports talk show on local sports radio for the past 20 years and as a member of the Dolphins radio broadcast team. It s time for me to slow down and get a decent night s sleep! said Rose. It s been a fun ride and I ve been able to cover a lot of major sporting events that I never could have if it wasn t for NBC 6. Aside from his radio and television work, Rose was a Miami Dolphins player from 1980 through 1986 and is probably best known for catching Dan Marino s first touchdown pass of his professional career. NBC 6 anchor Jackie Nespral will be sad to see Joe go LOUIS AGUIRRE HAS JOINED THE INSIDER If you ve missed Louis Aguirre on WSVN 7 s Deco Drive, be sure to catch him on the newsmagazine show The Insider. He has replaced Kevin Frazier, who has moved to Entertainment Tonight. The show airs at 7:30pm weekdays on WFOR CBS 4 Miami. Aguirre is best known as the entertainment reporter and co-host of WSVN 7 s Deco Drive, but he has been a correspondent for other nationally syndicated entertainment shows, such as Extra and A Current Affair. He has had a variety of roles on various tv shows including USA s Burn Notice, HBO s Sex in the City and ABC s All My Children. A University of Miami graduate, Aguirre got his start as a Spanish-language reporter for local Telemundo affiliate WSCV in He later joined WPLG Local 10 as a reporter and anchor. 3 CHAPTER NEWS ELIOTT RODRIGUEZ WILL MODERATE THE DEBATE IN THE RACE FOR FLORIDA GOVERNOR WFOR, together with Leadership Florida and the Florida Press Association, will produce what is the first, and so far only televised debate in the race for Florida Governor. CBS 4 news anchor Eliott Rodriguez will serve as the moderator of the debate and joining him will be a panel of Florida journalists who will ask the candidates questions. The one-hour debate titled Decision 2014: Before You Vote will air October 15th from 7 to 8pm on WFOR CBS 4 Miami and in Palm Beach County, exclusively on WPBF, commercial free. Nationally the debate will air on C-SPAN. ORLANDO RADIO REPORTER JUMPS TO TV, JOINING WEST PALM S WPEC By Mark Joyella TV SPY Orlando radio reporter Jonathan Beaton has made his last appearances on all-news station WDBO. He has started as a television reporter at West Palm Beach CBS affiliate WPEC. The Orlando Sentinel reports Beaton had a rapid rise in Central Florida: Beaton began as an intern at WDBO in 2011 and later joined the news team full time. He covered the George Zimmerman trial, and his reporting was featured on ABC News Radio and CNN Headline News. Jonathan Beaton He also reported on the Casey Anthony bankruptcy proceedings, the disappearance of Michelle Parker and the Allied Vets scandal. He is respected around town for a very professional style. Orlando s been very good to me, Beaton said. I love the people and the diversity the town offers. 4 REGIONAL NEWS NICK NICHOLSON NAMED VP AND GENERAL MANAGER AT WFTS By Aneya Fernando TV SPY Nick Nicholson is joining Tampa ABC affiliate WFTS as vice president and general manager. Steve Wasserman, divisional general manager of Scripps Media and GM of WPTV, confirmed the move following an internal he sent to WFTS staff. Nick is a highly regarded media executive with an impressive track record of success in several competitive markets, Wasserman writes. Nicholson spent 27 years with the Belo TV group, most recently as President/GM of KTVK/KASW in Phoenix. Before that, Nicholson ran WVEC in Norfolk, was GM of the Belo-owned Fox/UPN stations in Tucson, and VP of Sales at Belo flagship WFAA in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Gannett acquired Belo late last year. Nick Nicholson Nicholson replaces Rich Pegram who was shown the door last month after 7 years as WFTS GM. CHRIS FIELD OUT AT WTVT By Kevin Eck TV SPY WTVT has released a statement on the departure of sports anchor and reporter Chris Field. By the wording of the Tampa FOX owned station s news director John Hoffman s statement, it appears the decision to leave wasn t Field s. I want to thank Chris for her many years of service and dedication to the FOX 13 news team, said Hoffman. Her professionalism, and passion will certainly be missed by our viewers. This decision was based on a restructuring of the sports department. We wish her well in all her future endeavors. Chris Field I m grateful for all the wonderful people I ve had the pleasure to meet and work with over the past 17 years at FOX 13 and in the community, Field said in a prepared statement. I ve established relationships and friendships to last a lifetime. I appreciate the incredible sports events I ve had the privilege to cover, and the inspirational stories I ve had the honor to tell. I m proud of our award-winning sports team at FOX 13 and wish my colleagues all the best. I have built my career and home here in Tampa Bay. I appreciate all the support as my family and I move into the next chapters of life in this wonderful community. According to her bio, Fields started at WTVT the same day the MLB Devil Rays were formed in the expansion draft, November 17, 1997.

5 REGIONAL NEWS JACKSONVILLE STATIONS HAVE CHANGED THEIR CALL LETTERS Jacksonville FOX affiliate WAWS has officially become WFOX and CBS affiliate WTEV becomes WJAX, both Cox Media and Bayshore Television have announced. Changing the call letters to WFOX-TV better represents FOX30 with the FOX TV network, WAWS-WTEV VP and GM Jim Zerwekh said in a statement. FOX30 has historically and continues to be one of the top 10 performing FOX TV affiliates in the country. The Cox Media owned FOX affiliate signed on in 1981 as an independent station and picked up its FOX affiliation in Changing the call letters to WJAX-TV better identifies the strengths and ties of CBS 47 to the Jacksonville market, said Bruce Baker managing partner of Bayshore Television. 6 REGIONAL NEWS DAVE BARNES, FORMER WWL CHIEF METEOROLOGIST HAS DIED By Mark Joyella TV SPY Dave Barnes, who was chief meteorologist for more than a decade at New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL, died Saturday in Florida of complications from cancer. He was 78. Barnes retired in Dave was the consummate professional, said former WWL anchor Angela Hill. But more than that, I ll remember Dave for the loving and caring person he was and for always being a perfect gentleman. TELEMUNDO STATIONS TO ADD NEWSCAST AND STAFF By Kevin Eck, TV SPY Starting Monday, November 3, Telemundo will launch a weekday 5:30 p.m. half-hour newscast in 14 markets. The NBCUniversal owned station group also said it will hire nearly 30 employees to support the expanded news schedule. Today s announcement marks a new era for the Telemundo Station Group and Spanish-language news, Manuel Martinez, president of the Telemundo Station Group said in a statement. All of our stations have a commitment to deliver the best local breaking news and weather to our viewers and this expansion will help.
