1 Buccaneer Bay Newsletter March, 2015 Note from the Editor I am not sure if March came in like a Lion or a Lamb. I know it is cold but it looks like it might really warm up to the s next week. The first day of spring is March 20 th, I am so looking forward to warmer weather. Easter is on April 5 this year, most likely sooner than I will get out the April Newsletter. I try to shoot for the first weekend of each month, but depending on my schedule with Commissioner work and other committees I serve on I sometimes get behind. I just reviewed some old newsletters from 2004 and saw where in January I noted that I had hit 300 as the number of newsletters that I printed. It was at that time that I started requesting s so I could send it electronically and now it is published on the Buccaneer Bay Website at I now only print about 75 paper copies and have about 300 addresses, which is still not covering the approximately 415 homes in Buccaneer Bay, but close. I know it is early to be thinking about it but the Annual Buccaneer Bay Garage Sales are the first Friday and Saturday in June, which will be June 5 th & 6 th this year. I have an alarm set on my phone calendar for April 1 to start working on getting ready for the garage sale. We have one side of the basement stacked with boxes of items to sort through for the garage sale and the store room is jammed packed with boxes that I have to convince myself that I do not need to decorate for every possible holiday that occurs during the year. I know there is no way I will part with my Snowman Collection, but there is most certainly a lot of other themes that I can weed out. 5 St. Patrick's Day Facts & Trivia In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a religious holiday similar to Christmas and Easter. Erin go Bragh translates to "Ireland forever." The very first St. Patrick's Day parade was not in Ireland. It was in Boston in The largest parade in the United States, held since 1762, is in New York City, and draws more than one million spectators each year. Over 100 US cities hold a parade every year. Some of the other biggest St. Patrick's Day parades are in Chicago, Illinois and Savannah, Georgia. In 1948 President Truman became the first president to attend a St. Patrick s Day parade. The city of Chicago goes so far to celebrate that they dye their river green. Green is associated with Saint Patrick's Day because it is the color of spring, of Ireland, and of the shamrock. The Easter Bunny as a holiday deliverer of candy and eggs is thought to have started in Germany during the Middle Ages. Each year, candy manufacturers produce more than 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies for Easter. Meanwhile, research shows that solid chocolate bunnies are the most popular -- followed by hollow chocolate bunnies, and marshmallow chocolate bunnies. Studies also prove that 76% of Americans will eat the ears on chocolate bunnies first. 88% of American parents are expected to help out the Easter Bunny this year by carrying on the Easter tradition of creating Easter baskets for their kids.
