4 Public Art Jury Committee 2 January 9, 2013 Minutes 1. CALL TO ORDER Dennis Nault called the meeting to order at 12:06 PM. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA 2.1. Approval of January 9, 2013 Agenda Moved by Councillor Tara Veer, seconded by Allan MacIntyre "Resolved that the Agenda for the January 9, 2013 Public Art Jury Committee be approved with the following amendments: 1. Consideration of Re-Siting of Francis the Pig prior to other items; 2. Addition of Legacy Artwork under New Business; and 3. Addition of Public Art Coordinator Report under Reports. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.1. Approval of December 12, 2012 Minutes Moved by Helen Swanson, seconded by Allan MacIntyre "Resolved that the Minutes of the December 12, 2012 Public Art Jury Committee meeting be approved as transcribed." 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 4.1. Re-siting of Francis the Pig Pat Matheson provided handouts on potential sites for re-siting of Francis the Pig. The permanent move for Francis the Pig is due to the development on Gaetz Avenue. The

5 Public Art Jury Committee 3 January 9, 2013 Minutes Public Art Jury Committee considered the sites presented for re-siting. Following discussion the motion as set out below was introduced and passed: Moved by Allan MacIntyre, seconded Helen Swanson "Resolved that the Public Art Jury Committee, having considered the re-siting of Francis the Pig as discussed at the January 9, 2013 Committee meeting, hereby recommends that Administration proceed with the re-siting of Francis the Pig at the North East corner of Rotary Recreation Park." 4.2. Street Art vs. Graffiti Discussion Kristina Öberg presented the Street Art vs. Graffiti. She explained the current definition of graffiti under the Community Standards Bylaw 3383/2007 and the City of Red Deer s position on street art. The Public Art Jury Committee agreed to discuss this item at a future meeting. Action: Kristina Öberg and Pat Matheson to develop a communication plan with the community with respect to street art and graffiti Public Art Walking Tour Pat Matheson discussed the Public Art Walking tour. Tours are currently under development. The draft copy of the Ghost Tour will be circulated to the Public Art Jury Committee upon completion. The Public Art tours will be circulated at a later date and the Public Art Jury Committee will have an opportunity for comments at that time. 5. NEW BUSINESS 5.1. Legacy Artwork Allan MacIntyre provided an update on the Legacy Artwork and noted that the deadline has been extended to February 4, An update will be provided to the Public Art Jury Committee at the February 13, 2013 meeting. Councillor Tara Veer left the meeting at 12:57 PM.

Public Art Coordinator Report Pat Matheson provided a copy of the Public Art Coordinator Report as information for the Public Art Jury Committee. 7. NEXT MEETING The next Public Art Jury Committee meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 commencing at 12:00 PM in the Wapiti Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, City Hall. 8. ADJOURNMENT Moved by Allan MacIntyre, seconded by Helen Swanson "Resolved that the Public Art Jury Committee meeting of Wednesday, January 9, 2013, be adjourned at 1:10 PM.
