NATIONAL Mumbai Emplyees - Wrkers f lngest hurs Mumbai, the financial capital f India tps the list f cities with the lngest annual wrking hurs, in a reprt by the Swiss Bank UBS. The reprt says the average Mumbaikar wrks 3,314.7 hurs a year. New Delhi is ranked 4th and Bgta 5th n the list. Emplyees in Hani (2,691.4) and Mexic City (2,622.1) are placed secnd and third respectively in the list f earning levels with respect t annual wrking hurs amng the 77 cities surveyed.

2 Eurpean cities such as Paris (ranked 75) and Rme (76) have almst half the annual wrking hurs f the first 3 cities! Accrding t the reprt, Zurich is the mst expensive place t live in, while Cair is the cheapest. Grss earnings in Geneva are the highest, whereas New Delhi, Mumbai, Cair are the 3 lwest. BIMSTEC military exercise India will hst first military exercise f the BIMSTEC (Bay f Bengal Initiative fr Multi-Sectral Technical and Ecnmic Cperatin) Cuntries in September 2018 in Pune, Maharashtra. The theme f the exercise includes cunter-terrrism in semi-urban terrain and crdn and search. The main aim f this military exercise is t prmte strategic alignment amng the member-states and t share best practices in the area f cunter-terrrism. BIMSTEC cuntries had held disaster management exercise in 2017 in New Delhi, but this will be first military exercise f the gruping.

3 INTERNATIONAL G7 Summit The 44th summit f the Grup f Seven (G7) was held in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada. It ended in cmplete disarray with US President Dnald Trump blasting ff hst Canada and abruptly retracting his supprt fr a jint statement, signed by every natin in the grup. The summit was vershadwed by differences ver trade tariff disputes and calls t readmit Russia. With Trump's islatin frm ther allies, the G7 has been billed as a G6 plus ne with the US n the ut fr the first-ever time. The five themes fr this year's summit included, Inclusive ecnmic grwth Gender equality and wmen's empwerment Wrld security Jbs f the future Climate change and ceans The current presidency f the G7 is held by Canada, which is als the hst f the 2018 G7 summit. The 2019 summit will be held in Biarritz, Nuvelle-Aquitaine, France. The presidency will als autmatically shift t France in the year.

4 Last year s G7 summit was hsted by Italy. The G7 includes a grup f seven mst industrialized, develped and advanced ecnmies f the wrld. It includes US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. The cuntries meet annually and discuss glbal issues. Asia-Pacific Reginal Cnference The Asia-Pacific Reginal Cnference n Early Childhd Develpment (ECD) and Third Asia- Pacific Reginal Plicy Frum n Early Childhd Care and Educatin (ECCE) is being held at Kathmandu, Nepal. The 3-day event is hsted by the Gvernment f Nepal (Ministry f Educatin, Science, and Technlgy). SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY India s first indigenus Lithium-In Battery prject Cuncil f Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) lab has signed Memrandum f Agreement (MA) with RAASI Slar Pwer Pvt Ltd fr transfer f technlgy fr India s first Lithium In (Li-in) Battery prject.

5 The agreement was signed by CSIR s Central Electr Chemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. CSIR-CECRI has develped the indigenus technlgy f Lithium-in cells in partnership with ther sister CSIR labs. It has secured glbally recgnized patent fr this technlgy. Under the singed MA, Raasi Grup will set up a Lithium-in cells manufacturing facility in Krishnagiri district f Tamil Nadu clse t Bangalre. Wrld first EPR nuclear reactr A third-generatin Eurpean Pressurised Reactr (EPR) in Taishan, suthern China carried ut its first nuclear chain reactin. Unit 1 f the Taishan nuclear pwer plant has attained a sustained chain reactin fr the first time, becming the first EPR reactr t reach the cmmissining milestne. With EPRs in Finland and France facing setbacks, the Taishan 1 reactr is the first f its kind. Taishan 1 and 2 are the first tw reactrs based n the EPR design t be built in China. Sikkim s lngest tunnel STATES Minister f State fr Defence Subhash Ramra Bhamre inaugurated 578-metrelng Theng Tunnel, the lngest in Sikkim.

6 It is Cnstructed n the Gangtk-Chungthang State Highway by the Brder Rads Organisatin (BRO). The duble-lane tunnel bypasses a treacherus stretch f rad between Sikkim s capital Gangtk and Chungthang.
