Your Copperfield HOA has arranged for Santa to be at the Clubhouse on December 9, 2017 from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Each child will have an opportunity to tell Santa if they have been naughty or nice and to let the big guy in red know what is on their wish list. All the Copperfield children will receive a small gift and will be able to put in their official application to be one of Santa s elves. RSVP to hotline@copperfieldky.com to guarantee your child will receive a gift by December 6, Be One of Santa s Elves at the Cookies & Cocoa Event If your student needs service hours please have them consider helping at the Cookies & Cocoa with Santa event. 2 Copperfield s Annual Holiday Decorating Contest Our neighborhood will soon be transformed into a winter wonderland with holiday lights and decorations. We hope you participate in the annual holiday decorating contest! Judges are looking for creative outdoor displays that make our neighborhood look festive! First, Second and Third place winners will be announced after the contest via Nextdoor and in the following newsletter. Judges will be unbiased parties employed by a nearby Church that do not live in Copperfield. Contest details are listed below: Date: Wednesday, December 13th To participate, turn on your lights by 6:30pm. Judging will take 7:00pm. Remember to keep your lights on if you are not home. Social Activities Committee Did you move to Copperfield because of the family friendly neighborhood atmosphere? Much of this atmosphere is built with the various activities we provide throughout the year that allow neighbors to meet, socialize and develop lasting friendships. Be a part of the group that helps make this neighborhood special. Join Tammy Kessler as she hosts a Social Activities Committee Meeting on Thursday, November 30. Wine and cheese will be provided. You can learn about the events we have done in the past, provide ideas for future events and share any expertise, talent or interest you have in helping lead specific functions. 3 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT SHAWN WILKIE Welcome to November! As the year progresses, our days are getting shorter and the nights longer and colder. (As experienced during the Fall Festival at the end of October!) Nonetheless, in November my thoughts turn to the many, many things I have to be thankful for. In addition to my family, my health and my job, I m thankful for this neighborhood and the people in it who make it the tremendous community that it is. Even though it s at times sad to see some of our residents moving away, I m thankful for the new people who are excited to move into Copperfield, and the opportunity to meet them and get to know them. Some of the recent neighborhood activities have once again given me this chance, and I am continually astounded at the quality of the people who choose to make Copperfield their home. To help maintain connections throughout the winter months (without the pool as a natural gathering point), Gina & I will once again be hosting First Fridays at our home. It was fun last year to have various neighbors join us each month for an evening of hanging out and catching up with one another. The kids run around outside or in the basement, and I always enjoy the adult conversations and never fail to learn something new about my neighbors. I hope many of you will be able to join us again (or for the first time) this year, so that we can stay connected, reconnect, or make new connections. I know it can be intimidating to visit for the first time, particularly if you don t already know someone, but I encourage you to come and meet your neighbors so that each subsequent activity/opportunity becomes that much easier. My fervent hope is that the First Fridays get so crowded that our home will no longer accommodate everyone, and we re forced to move them to the clubhouse. (More about that elsewhere in the newsletter.) So please watch Nextdoor for information about upcoming First Fridays, and join us if your schedule can accommodate. I guarantee you ll find something interesting to talk about, and spend some time with your amazing neighbors in the process. 4 Clubhouse Renovation Update Progress has been painfully slow, but the clubhouse renovation project has been gaining a little momentum over the last couple months. The CHA Board and the Clubhouse Remodel Committee hired Architect Tony Kleyer to complete the design and engineering work for the project. Tony and his team have completed a preliminary site plan and it was submitted to the county for approval on 10/30/17. The site plan is not a completed design, but rather a request to the county to add square footage to the main clubhouse, increase the size of the parking lot by a few spaces, and add some additional covered and uncovered pool deck space. It is hoped that this preliminary application will be approved by the county by mid to late December. In the meantime, Tony is putting together proposal drawings for the project based on the input and guidance of the Remodel Committee. These drawings will be shared with the neighborhood for feedback in a series of open house meetings hosted by the CHA Board and the Clubhouse Remodel Committee. We hope to hold these meeting before the end of the year, but actual dates have not yet been selected (and can't be until drawings are completed). As soon as dates are chosen, they will be communicated via Nextdoor and this newsletter. 5 The Fall Festival that Felt Like Winter. Thanks to hard work Danielle Rydberg and Leah Guilford, Copperfield had its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 28. Mother Nature helped make it windy and cold, which most certainly impacted participation. Regardless, the event provided a chance for everyone to have some fun & show off their creativity in the Costume Contest and a Trunk or Treat Decoration Contest. In addition to the fun had by dressing up, there was a Chili Cook-off!
