1 It s All at Your Library! May 2018 Program Guide PPLC A Monthly Publication of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative Pinellas Public Libraries Rock! The summer months are quickly approaching which means YOUR public library is busy gearing up for this year s Summer Reading program! This year s theme is Libraries Rock!. The hot summer months are the ideal time for adults and teens to slow down and experience the joy of reading. With schools out of session, summer is also an opportunity for parents and children to build and strengthen reading and language skills together. Being out of school for an extended period often means that children will lose some of their academic achievements gained during the school year. This is a condition called the summer slide, and your public library is here to help! So, whether you are looking to keep your child s brain engaged or just want a break from the heat, let your public library rock your summer! Here are some ideas to get you started! P Enroll in your public library s summer reading program and enjoy free events and classes all summer long! P Beat your reading slump by discovering new books and authors with Novelist, a new tool of your public library. P Dig through historical photos and records in the online Pinellas Memory project. P Visit the Florida Holocaust Museum or the Museum of Fine Arts free of charge by checking out a museum pass from your library. P Attend a beginner s sign language class hosted by PPLC s Deaf Literacy Center. P Take the plunge and start learning a new language that has always interested you using Pronunciator. P Uncover new branches of your family tree with Ancestry.com at your local library. P Find your rhythm at a library ukulele workshop. P Children 18 and under can find free, nutritious meals at select libraries providing Summer BreakSpots (find participating libraries by visiting summerfoodflorida.org) P Make the most out of your time by searching jobs and using the small business tools on AtoZ Databases. Summer at Pinellas Public Libraries is bustling with fun and educational opportunities for everyone. Join in the fun!
