Knowing the right words to say, being able to recognize warning signs, and reaching out for help can help you save a life. Presented by Upstream Suicide Prevention Program. Head to Monster or Indeed? Local author and career consultant, Bob Hoberman, will be here to provide an introductory session that will give you an understanding of strategies to getting an interview for the job you really want. 4 MAPL Calendar of Events Contact Us (732) Join us for Chris Botti & Friends: Night Sessions -- Live in Concert. This concert features the jazz trumpeter's star-studded performance at the historic El Rey Theater in Los Angeles in December 2001 with guest vocal appearances from Sting and Shawn Colvin. The concert runs 1 hour and 27 minutes. We will stream the entire concert using our newest online resource: Qello Concerts. Hollywood in the White House Thursday, October 7:00 pm This high-octane journey through 83 years of Hollywood films and T.V. shows about U.S. presidents features scenes and discussions of such political science favorites as House of Cards, VEEP, Dr. Strangelove, Seven Days in May, Nixon, and the bizarre 1930s rarity Gabriel Over the White House. This program will be presented by film historian, author, and speaker Max Alvarez. His talks are rich in historical context and cultural information and bolstered with humor and witty anecdotes. Health and Exercise for Adults Chair Yoga Thursday, October 1:30 pm Are you interested in learning yoga, but have difficulty getting down on the floor? Now you too can enjoy all the benefits of yoga without having to get on a mat. You will learn many yoga postures, breathing techniques, mediation and relaxation while seated in a chair. The class will be taught by Danielle Meany, RYT. All levels welcome. No experience or equipment is necessary. Yoga Basics Thursday, October 11:00 am

5 This class is great for the beginner or experienced student as we give variations for all levels. Focusing on movement integrating breath, awareness, and alignment, you will build strength, focus, flexibility, and balance for both mind and body. The class will be taught by Tula Yoga instructor, Jennifer Cavalieri. Please bring your own yoga mat or large towel. Must be at least 18 years old to participate. (At the time of writing, this event was filling up. Check for availability. Also routinely check the library's web site for upcoming months.) MAPL Kids Are the Best!! On-going and Special Programs for Kids, Tweens, and Teens! This October, MAPL offers a variety of programs for children from six months on up, and all the way through teens. Check the library calendar of events for more details and for information about how to register, as needed. (Events marked with ** require registration.) You can also call the library or contact Leslie at maplkids@lmxac.org MAPL Calendar for October Teen Read Week grades 6-12 Sunday, October 8 - Saturday, October 14 Express yourself by showing what book characters have impacted your life. To do this, complete a piece of original artwork about a book character you relate to. The art must be appropriate for all ages to view. It can be in any format, e.g., painting, sculpture, collage, etc. It must relate to a book character. Deadline: October 14 See the Youth/Teen Librarian for more details!

Reading to Therapy Dogs** Thursday, October 4:00 and 4:30pm Elementary school aged children are invited to read to our therapy dogs Kassidy and Tucker. Please bring a book you'd like to read or come early and the librarian will help you pick on out! Kassidy and Tucker are certified therapy dogs and can't wait to hear you read! Grades K - 5. Registration is required. Pumpkin Painting** Saturday, October 10:00 am and 1:00 pm Pumpkin season is here! Come and celebrate with us at the library. We will hear a spooky story and then paint our very own pumpkins! Spanish Language Story Time** ages 6 months - 3 years Wednesday, October 10:30am Join us in the meeting room for a special program: Spanish Language Story Time! We will read a story, sing songs, and do an activity, all in Spanish! If you are native speaker or want to expose your child to Spanish, you are welcome to join us. For ages 6 months to 3 years old.

New Arrivals for October TECHNOLOGY CLASSES FOR YOU! Organize Your Life with Your iphone Sunday, October 1:00 pm Get the most out of your iphone with this lecture and demonstration class. We will review some basic apps and tools that will aid your daily life and boost your productivity. We will also focus on tips and suggested apps that will optimize your iphone experience. From this class, you will be able to keep up with your bank accounts, find rides instantly, save space on your iphone, and much more. Microsoft Office Overview Monday, October 7:00 pm Whether you are interested in writing a letter, keeping track of your home finances, or even whipping up a slideshow for work, Microsoft Office is the software package that can help you get it done. This discussion-style class will provide an overview of the Office 2013 softwware package and will cover Word, Powerpoint, Publisher, and Excel, and what each are capable of doing. ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER SESSIONS MAPL offers free one-on-one computer sessions with knowledgeable computer techs. Each session will be an hour long and cover a range of topics such as online forms, s, the Internet, resumes, and any other general computer questions you may have. It's the world's largest collection of concerts and music documentaries streamed on-demand to just about any digital device. To access Qello Concerts, go to the library's main website using the LMXAC link below, then pull down the "Library Information" menu, click on Electronic Resources. Click on the link for "Music." From there, click on "Qello Concerts" and follow the simple directions! Books for Sale!!! Don't want to wait until October 28th for the Book Sale? You can still buy books at a great price! The small hallway between the circulation desk and the reference room has shelves full of books, audiobooks, and DVDs available for your purchase.
