In the kids' section of the e-newsletter, you'll see all sorts of activities planned. Adults who register for summer reading will receive a complimentary tote bag and can participate in opportunities throughout the summer to win weekly raffles as well as the Summer BINGO contest. Our August events are free to our patrons, but we ask you to register for them online through the library website at Matawan Aberdeen Public Library Click on the Program Calendar, find your event, and then click on the "Register" button and follow the online directions. You can also stop by the Information Desk, call the library at , or Sometimes events are not listed because they are already fully registered. You will make a few sheets of paper to take home to dry. Then, using a frame card we supply, you choose your best one to make a unique greeting card. Participants must be at least 18-years-old and Matawan Aberdeen card holders. New Jersey's Clean Energy Program: Learn How to Save Energy and Money! Monday, August 7:00 pm Learn how you, your business, and your municipality can benefit by saving energy and money through New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. Two representatives will speak about generous statewide rebate programs that will help homeowners and businesses save money for energy. Green Cleaners Monday, August 7:00 pm Discover how to create natural, effective cleaning products using ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen cabinet. We'll make at least four different products and everyone will take home some samples. Please bring a clean spray bottle (previously used is great). 4 On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Viewers around the world will be provided with a wealth of images captured before, during, and after the eclipse by 11 spacecraft, at least three NASA aircraft, more than 50 high-altitude balloons, and the astronauts aboard the International Space Station-- each offering a unique vantage point for the celestial event. The library will close from 2:30-3:00 pm to view the eclipse. Health and Exercise for Adults Chair Yoga Thursday, August 1:30 pm Are you interested in learning yoga, but have difficulty getting down on the floor? Now you too can enjoy all the benefits of yoga without having to get on a mat. You will learn many yoga postures, breathing techniques, mediation and relaxation while seated in a chair. The class will be taught by Danielle Meany, RYT. All levels welcome. No experience or equipment is necessary! Yoga Basics Thursday, August 11:00 am This class is great for the beginner or experienced student as we give variations for all levels. Focusing on movement integrating breath, awareness, and alignment, you will build strength, focus, flexibility, and balance for both mind and body. The class will be taught by Tula Yoga instructor, Jennifer Cavalieri. Please bring your own yoga mat or large towel. Must be at least 18 years old to participate. Amazon Smile Program New Arrivals at MAPL Every week, new books and DVDs arrive at the library for your enjoyment. Click on the following link for just a small sampling of some of the many brand new adult fiction, adult non-fiction, children's, and DVD resources that are available to you! New Arrivals for August ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER SESSIONS MAPL offers free one-on-one computer sessions with knowledgeable computer techs. Each session will be an hour long and cover a range of topics such as online forms, s, the Internet, resumes, and any other general computer questions you may have. Call the information desk for available dates to sign up for a one-hour session. Check with the library for available dates and times. Resource of the Month: Audiobooks and Playaways MAPL offers you a variety of ways to enjoy books. Among them are audiobooks -- recorded readings on CDs of many popular titles. The library has hundreds of audiobooks available. You'll find them under both sides of the counter direct in front of you when you first enter the library. MAPL has a growing list of Playaway titles. These are also recordings of popular titles, but you don't need a separate electronic device to listen. The Playaway is its own device into which you plug headphones and listen. Playaways can be found in the main circulation room on the shelves opposite the men's restroom.

11 For kids, MAPL has another collection -- Playaway Views. They too are self-contained devices, but you view the book rather than listen to it. You can find Playaway Views downstairs in the Children's Department. Books for Sale!!! Are you looking to purchase books? MAPL offers selected books at a great price! The small hallway between the circulation desk and the reference room has shelves full of books, audiobooks, and DVDs available for your purchase.
