1 Newsletter: Approved by BSROA Editor: Jody Folic THE BADIN SHORES BEACON Let the Light Shine March 2016 OCTOBER 2016 Newsletter: Approved by BSROA Newsletter: Approved by BSROA Editor: Editor: Jody Folice Folice Board of Directors Meeting; October 8, TOWN HALL MEETING: Ellona Gordon Lot 116/117-Voiced concern about a guest of a homeowner that comes to the pool with a disability that causes her to faint at times when in the pool and that she has had to be rescued several times by other homeowners. Since the pool is closed for right now, the BOD is going to look into options such as talking to the homeowners that sign in the guest, requiring a life jacket and checking with the laws of the ADA. Bob Reynolds Lot B95-Showed pictures of several areas of the Boardwalk that need repaired. The park has just purchased a pontoon boat to be able to stock materials to go around and make repairs, it is in the works to revitalize a committee of section leaders to repair and report damages to the Boardwalk to be able to keep up with repairs more thoroughly. BOD Meeting: Meeting was called to order by Howard Kimbrell, the Pledge of Allegiance was held, and Bob Reynolds led our prayer. Roll Call: Rudy Head, Patricia Boyette, Howard Kimbrell, Richard Childers, Joe Salmons, Mike Bales and Nancy Absher absent. 2 2 Consent Vote Minutes: None Regular Meeting Minutes: Rudy Head made a motion to accept and suspend the reading of the minutes 9/10/2016 BOD meeting as amended. Richard Childers seconded. Motion passed Patricia Boyette voted NO Executive Meeting Minutes: Rudy Head made a motion to accept and suspend the reading of the 9/10/2016 Executive Session meeting minutes. Richard Childers seconded. Motion passed August Financial Report-Patricia Boyette made a motion to accept the August Financial Report. Joe Salmons seconded. Motion passed September Financial Report-Tabled since the BOD members were only able to receive the report the day before the meeting and several have not had a chance to read it yet. Maintenance Report: Ray Tart Laundry Room closed on the 10 th for remodeling and adding new equipment. Work on new brick Marque sign with electric for future. Most materials were donated. New split rail fence at the laundry area. Working with fire department about filling pool after repairs. Cleaning up shop about 90% done, Replaced lights as needed Repaired water leaks. Work on clearing and cleaning road drains. Handicap toilets installed at Clubhouse. New fencing at Grandview. 2

3 3 ITEMS TO MENTION Still working on pool rules updates concerning swimmies due to so many accidents in the pool this past season. Committee Reports: Appeals-Had 0 appeals Beach Committee- No meeting this month Building Guidelines: Signup sheet at the office Events-Ellona Gordon gave schedule of events for October. Also discussed changing the calendar year for events. Elections- JoAnn gave election report Emergency Plan-Ellona gave report, still waiting to hear back from Red Cross, Blood Drive in November, Asking for closet space at clubhouse. Finance- Vote on committee, meetings are already scheduled Playground Z Committee-Richard Childers has given Finance Committee budget numbers for new equipment at the playground at the pavilion. Pool: Only needed $ of the $ requested for additional table Restaurant- Assured that the restaurant will be open all winter, hours might change. Security Contract- Golf cart is getting a new engine. Head of security to make sure that he reports amount and what type of tickets are getting written every month. Boardwalk- Mike Bales to take over as liaison of Boardwalk and schedule meetings. Dance Club: Dance Club cancelled for this month Boat Slip No report Coast Guard Auxiliary No report Chapel- Jo Ann invited everyone to dinner 10/9/2016 for Homecoming. 3

New Business Committee Calendar Year- Patricia Boyette made a motion that ALL committees will run on a calendar year from January 1 st to December 31 st. Rudy Head seconded. Motion passed This will eliminate several committees being on different schedules through the year. Finance Committee-Richard Childers made a motion to accept the Finance Committee members as stated by Rudy Head. Joe Salmons seconded. Motion passed Motion for Executive Session- A motion was made by Patricia Boyette for Executive Session immediately following the BOD meeting concerning personnel and contracts. Rudy Head seconded. Motion passed Motion to adjourn-motion made by Patricia Boyette to adjourn. Joe Salmons seconded. Motion passed Meeting adjourned 4

5 5 Monthly Security Report September has come and gone with no major security problems. After Labor day things really slowed down. Traffic thru the gate has been down a lot from this time last year. The golf cart is still a problem. Officer Jarrells said that the longer you try to drive it the worse the exhaust fumes get. A couple of times he has had to stop during his rounds and get out and walk around to deep from getting sick. If it starts getting cooler we will not be able to drive it with the sides down. Because of the golf cart situation there were not as many tickets written due to the limitation of making rounds and the decrease in the amount of traffic in the park. We have quite a few Committees who help Badin Shores Resort and without them, we would not see the great improvements that we are seeing! The following items are NOT allowed in the household dumpster/compactor: construction materials, appliances, furniture, mattresses, limbs, yard clippings and leaves.

The following items are NOT allowed in the household dumpster/compactor: construction materials, appliances, furniture, mattresses, limbs, yard clippings and leaves. 1. Limbs can be taken to the brush pile across from the pond, on the hill. 2. Leaves can be taken behind the maintenance building. All leaves must be removed from bags. 3. Batteries are to be taken to the maintenance building and placed on the yellow pallet. C. Do not flush cigarette butts, Kleenex or facial tissues, feminine hygiene articles, condoms, cotton swabs, make-up pads, cat box litter, coffee grounds, disposable diapers or other solid wastes into the sewer. D. Collect all used cooking oil and grease in a used can or jar for disposal in the compactor, do not pour oil or grease down your drain. E. Do not use liquid drain cleaners such as Liquid Plumber, Drano, Lye or other caustic hazardous chemicals to remove clogs. Use a plumber s plunger, drain blaster, drain snake, or turbo buster to open clogged drains. F. It is against the law to flush or dispose of any hazardous chemicals or substances into the sewer. Such items are, but not limited to; solvents, motor oils, paint thinners, discarded medicines, disinfectants, drain cleaners, pesticides, poisons and other toxic substances. G. Illegal dumping carries a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00). H. Feeding any animal at the dumpster carries a fine of $25.00 for first offence. V. Fishing /Hunting A. Fishing is permitted on the fishing pier and along the boardwalk. Check with NC Wildlife for all rules and regulations. B. There can be no fish cleaning on the fishing pier or along the boardwalk. 8 C. Catch and release fishing is permitted in the small pond near the entrance. D. Hunting on common property with a weapon, whether primitive or domestic, is not permitted and will result in a $ Fine.
