2 2 (It was brought to the Boards attention by Dianne Thomas that we did not have enough of the executive board members present to have a quorum to vote. At this point it was discussed and decided to have Jan Wilson send a copy of the motions made to Mary Weich and then she would a copy to those not present so they could vote.) (FYI Later it was determined after checking Policies and By Laws that we did have a quorum and the motions stand as approved.) Secretary s Report: Jan Wilson The minutes of the last meeting in North Platte were sent as corrected by to the board members. There were no additional corrections. Kay Grimminger made a motion to accept the minutes, 2 nd by Susan Seidel. Motion passed. Treasures Report: Susan Seidel Susan presented the 2 nd and 3 rd quarter reports. See attached copies (4). 2 nd Quarter (end of June, 2014) Checking $22, Savings Account $30, CD S total $37, Total $90, nd Quarter (end of June, 2014) Total Income $2, Total Expenses $11, Net Income - ($8,895.59) 3 rd Quarter (through Sept. 30, 2014) Checking $25, Savings Account $30, CD s Total $37, Total $93, rd Quarter (through Sept ) Total Income $10, Total Expenses $7, Net Income $3, Year to Date as of Sept. 30 we are down $4, A motion was made by Sharon Clark to approve the treasurer s report, 2 nd by Dianne Thomas Motion Passed There was discussion on if there is a better place to invest our savings rather than in CD s. 2

3 3 Thank You s that had been received were read to the board at this time. Susan Seidel read thank you s from Taylor Arp for the money given to sponsor the Jr. Youth BQ/TQ class at the State Fair, and from Lenae Kohmetscher for sponsoring the 2085 Senior Youth BQ/TQ class at the State Fair. Susan Seidel read the thank you from Julie Long of Julies Catering of Albion for selecting her to cater the Region 2 Quilt Gathering. Susan Seidel read a letter for Amazon Smile. They give funds (.05%) for non- profits as designated by customers. There have been two people who have designated funds to NSQG. Susan will check further on this program, and see what is needed to participate. Janet Wilson read the thank you from Susan Brown who had received the Variable Start at the State Convention. District Director s Reports Region I: There was a verbal report by Sharon Clark Sharon passed out bookmarks with information (see attached copy) about the Region 1 Quilt Gathering, Saturday Nov. 8, PM, 2014 starting at 1 PM. The Gathering will be held at the NPPD Off- Site Response Facility, 902 Central Ave. in Auburn, NE. There will be a Trunk Show by Barb Fife of Overland Park KS. There will be a book signing with quilt maker and author Kelly Ashton. There will be scissor and rotary blade sharpening available by Just Wright Sharpening of Lincoln, NE. Sharon introduced Jill Vanderboegh who will be a Region 1 Director starting in January Region II: Sandra Kosch read a report from Janet Atkinson, Region 2 Director, on the Region 2 Quilt Gathering that was held in Albion on Saturday, Sept. 12, See attached copy. Highlights of this report are: The Theme for the gathering was Quilts of Local Color. They had 54 guests from 17 communities in attendance. Speakers were Carol Kusek of Albion, Nancy Shavlik of Bartlett, Jeanie Peeks of Lincoln, and Donna Iwan of Albion. Jan Person of Albion featured her Thirteen Quilts for the Bride. A photo of the main speakers Jeanie Peeks, Nancy Shavlik, Janet Person and Carol Kusek was included. Gloria Miller and Sandy Kosch promoted Quilt NE Carol Kusek promoted membership to NSQG. There were quilts displayed at the assisted living facility for the guest to view. (Janet Wilson made a copy of this report and the picture for the minutes and sent the originals to Betz for the Newsletter.) Region III: Mary Weich read an from Jan Hibbs In this Jan suggested the idea of adding another Region to NSQG. Region 3 covers such a large area, especially for the western part, it might be better serve the area to divide it. There was discussion on this. Mary will ask Jan H. to check on how to proceed with this and report at the January meeting. 3

4 4 Committee/Project Reports Awards: Cindy Scheinost No report By- Laws & Policies: Fay Kliewer No report. Education: Sheila Green No report. Historian: Jayne Schlosser sent a written report to Mary Weich. See attached copy. Mary Weich read this report to the board. Jayne requested photos and articles about the 2014 State Convention and for the 2014 State Fair or any other events. Jayne stated that she did not receive the latest printed newsletter for the historian s books and asked what she should do about this. LaVonne Dunetts will be contacted about this. Library: A verbal report was given by Katie Wilson. Katie had received a number of thank you notes from libraries. She did not read them to the board. Membership: LaVonne Dunetts No report. LaVonne Dunetts is the new membership chairman. The address on the membership form needs to be changed to LaVonne s. Mary Weich had membership forms to give out. Raffle Quilt Mom There was a written report from Marie Clark, which was read by Shirley Spence. See attached copy. The 2015 Shimmering Stars quilt has been shown at a number of places with tickets sold, with more showings at events planned. As of today there are 1018 tickets left to sell. Mary Weich asked for a report on the total amount made on last year s quilt for the record. Susan will last year s total from the raffle quilt. Totals from Susan Seidel received Raffle Quilt 2014 totals: From July 2013 to July 2014 Total Expenses $ Total Income $3, Final total $2, Site Selection: Miriam Peterson. The site selection committee for 2017 are Miriam Peterson, Susan Weber and Bonnie Kucera. Pam Thomas sent n to Mary and she read it to the board. The contract for the Kearney site for QNE 2017 needs to be signed. NE State Fair Liaison A verbal report was given by Kay Grimminger: Everything went well this year. 4

5 5 They exceeded the budget by $ to provide food for the workers. Kay requested that this amount be increased over the budget to cover this expense. Susan Seidel made a motion to increase over the budget the $ needed to cover this expense. 2 nd by Kay Grimminger Motion Passed NE State Fair Superintendent Jan Sittler gave a verbal report and there is a final written report on the NSQG 2014 Quilt Show at the State Fair. See attached copy. Highlights of that report include: the state fair theme was A Bumper Crop of Fun, 662 quilts were entered, there were 82 sponsors who provided 148 special awards, there was a total of about 348 volunteers who spent 2044 hours making the quilt show happen. Rule changes for entries next year are: Limit the number of quilts an exhibitor can enter to five. Limit the number of special contests any one quilt can be entered to three. Require all quilts entered in a special contest (Division 5390) to be first entered in a competition class (Division5320 or 5330). The entry book will be on line about May 1 st 2015 It was brought up at this time that we did not have a quorum to vote. We need 50% or six of the voting board members in good standing present. Those missing will need to be sent proxies. Mary Weich will send them proxies by so they can vote. QNE 14: A verbal report was given by Kelly Thomalla along with a written and a financial report. See attached copies. Highlights of this report are: This is the Quilt Nebraska 2014 Final Report. QNE 2014 was July at the Quality Inn and Suites in North Platte, NE. Ridin The Rails was the name for the convention which was a railroad theme. The five national teachers were Jodi Barrows, Ami Simms, Robby Joy Ecklow, Becky Goldsmith and Elinor Peace Bailey. There were 12 regional teachers. There were 38 class/lectures provided. There were 180 full registrations, 15 half registrations and 77 at the Quilt History Day. The Merchant Mall had eight vendors. They had a net profit of $10, A book with all the information and pictures of the convention was presented at the meeting. They passed a box with information on to the Co- Chairs of QNE 15. One check had not cleared yet. They also gave a written report on recommendations to the NSQG Board of Directors. See attached copy. Mary Weich had a report on the 4 Winners of Scholarships from State Fair drawn this year.. They will receive $50.00 each to attend Quilt Nebraska The winners were: Carol Kusek, Mary McGee, Carol Quandt, and Laura Franchini. Mary will send this information to Deb Austin and Dee. 5

6 6 Susan Seidel reported on the Pass the Hat from the State Convention, $ was received for scholarships for the state convention. Publicity: Penni Jensen No report. Friends of ISQC Liaison: A verbal report was given by Dianne Thomas along with a written report. See attached copy. The addition to the Quilt House is going well. There are still seats available for the Symposium held at ISQC April 16 through the 18, 2015 with the theme of Making and Mending Quilts for Causes and Commemorations. Information for this event can be found on their on the website. There is limited seating. The Friends of IQSC is planning a fall fundraiser on Friday and Saturday, November 21 & 22 from 11am to 4 pm at the Study Center. They named it Art Market at the Museum and will feature various vendors with all sorts of items. The annual meeting of Friends will be the Thursday before, Nov. 19 th and all members of Friends are welcome to attend. Website: Chris Wiegers No report. Threads Across NE: A written report and a financial l report was submitted by Carol Brandl, this report was read by Mary Weich. See attached copies. Highlight of these reports are: 903 people attended Threads in A total of 150 quilts were displayed. There were 28 vendors. Four raffle quilts were represented. They were short on volunteers. They stayed within the given budget. Total Income $11, Total Expense $9, Profit $2, QNE 15: A verbal report was given by Deb Austin, Gloria Miller and Sandra Kosch. They still need some local teachers and vendors for the 2015 convention. They extended the teachers application date to Dec. 1 st. They asked that we would help get information out to people we knew that might be interested in teaching. Everything else for the convention is going well. They have received requests for more lectures. Unfinished Business None New Business Shirley Spence reported on bids for the Newsletter. The only bid she received was from Betz McMahon. Shirley read Betz s bid, after discussion it was decided to accept this bid for Susan Seidel also reported that 272 Newsletters were sent in October of Susan suggested that next year we should lower the amount of 550 newsletters down to

7 7 A motion was made by Susan Seidel to accept Betz McMahon s bid for editing and printing the Newsletter. 2 nd by Sharon Clark. Motion Passed. Mary Weich read a letter from Betz McMahon in which she stated that articles are due this week. She thanked those who have sent in their articles and reminded those who have not done so to get their articles in. She also stated that in the past she sent s to shops for advertising but many of these were blocked. Advertising was down this year. Susan Seidel commented that $ was budgeted in income for advertising but so far this year so far we have received $ Other Business Shirley Spence gave a report on the upcoming dates and locations for our board meetings for There is a written report, see attached copy. This will be printed in the Newsletter. NSQG Board Meetings for 2015 January 10, 2015, 1 pm in York, NE. We will be meeting at the Chances R restaurant, at noon to have lunch first, with members buying their own lunch. (There will be a budget meeting at 10 am for those involved with working on the budget.) April 4, 2015, 1pm in Grand Island, NE at the Material Girl Quilt Shop. A lunch will be provided at noon before the meeting. June 13, 2015, 1pm in Columbus, NE at Claus and Paws. A lunch will be provided at noon before the meeting. November 14, 2015, 1 pm in York, NE at the Quilt Basket. A lunch will be provided at noon before the meeting. January 16, 2016, 1 pm in Fremont, NE at the Country Traditions Quilt Shop. A lunch will be provided at noon before the meeting. The annual meeting will be Sunday July 26, 2015 after the state convention in Norfolk, NE Shirley Spence asked that each board member send her a short outline of what we have done for our position this last year. There was discussion on the Recommendations to the NSQG Board report. Dianne Thomas stated that we need to send paper proxies to those voting members that are not in attendance at the board meeting. Ideas on this were discussed. There was a discussion on the treasurer s (Board and QNE) being bonded. Susan Seidel reported that the NSQG Treasurer is not bonded. Bonding is very expensive to do. Susan Seidel recommended that those officers involved in the budget meeting in January take a good look and study the budget. With our membership down we need to look at maybe adjusting some of the budget. 7

8 8 Dianne Thomas and Susan Seidel recommended that an article be put in the Newsletter about Amazon Smile, Lavonne Dunetts will be contacted. Susan Seidel suggested that we send the 15% donation from Threads profit to Friends be done by January so that the money is given in same year as it is raised at Threads. A motion was made by Susan Seidel that we send 15% of the profits from Threads 2014 to Friends of IQSC and to send this in the year it is from Threads. 2 nd by Mary Weich. Motion passed. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 am by President Mary Weich. The next NSQG board meeting will be January 10, 2014 at 1pm at Chances R restaurant in York, NE. Attachments following: 8
