Members introduced themselves. Secretary s Report The secretary minutes from the Nov meeting were ed previously for the members to review. Secretary, Lacie Ashby, highlighted suggested corrections received via as well as noted corrections from the floor. Lacie made the recommended corrections. Debbie Ross moved to accept the minutes as amended. Elaine seconded this motion. Motion passed. Approved 2013 minutes will be posted on the Tau Chapter website. Treasurer s Report David Ross filled in for John Lea-Cox. The financial statement was passed around to the members for review for the period of 11/1/13 through 10/31/14. National Friend of Extension the Dean agreed to pay one-half of the expenses; waiting for the check of $310 from the Business Office. ESP Tau Chapter was responsible for the other half. Guy Moore later agreed that one-half of his expenses would be an acceptable reimbursement, so ESP-Tau Chapter will not have to cover the remaining half of his expenses. Remaining dues to come in today will be added in to those listed collected thus far. Our chapter made a contribution to the ESP key for Jeff Meyers, outgoing National President. Corrections to Sandy to JCEP $300 Travel Financial Statement National Voting Delegate $200 Sandy Award Winner $200 $600 became = $700 Total Expense will be $ Net Income $ Current balance should be: $11, David moved to accept the treasurer s report as correct, Susan seconded the motion. Motion passed.
David shared the proposed budget for Beginning Balance 11, Estimated Income 2, Estimated Expenses 2, End Projected Balance 11, Will have an estimated IRS penalty of about $300. David moved the propose budget be accepted. Discussion continued - No national ESP president this year from Maryland, do we need to plan and possibly budget for that? Debbie stated the fund-raising for the National ESP Key for Jeff generated a total of $3,400, including monies donated by Jeff, Tau Chapter members, Tau Chapter (donating $700) and a PA member ($100). This money goes into the national ESP Development Fund. Members shared information regarding the process for the ESP key such as what it is, buying, how donations and funds are tracked at ESP, how money comes back to our chapter, etc. See the national ESP website espnational.org under ESP Development Fund Giving for some of the details. Sandy passed her Key with the group. Elaine Bailey shared an article regarding contributions and how much comes back to chapters. ( ). The next ESP conference will be in Coeur d Alene, Idaho on October 4 7, Session proposals are due March 15, One conference registration fee reimbursement will be given to the lead presenter of a concurrent session if that presenter is a current ESP member and fulfills all requirements to receive a stipend. Karen Redderson asked if money should be added to budget for speakers. Group discussion decided to allow the executive committee to make that decision as the year progresses. What Professional Development do we need? Networking outside of 4-H Tenure track expectations, recommendation and networking, does FCS still maintain an external reviewer list? P & T workshops and networking Mentoring Members asked if professional development dollars should be added into the budget. Elaine Bailey recommended that our chapter apply for Professional Development funds from National ESP to match with chapter funds.
David suggested we approve the 2015 budget as is and allow the executive committee to approve any additional funds needed for professional development as plans are made. Madeline Green moved to accept the 2015 budget. Sandy Corridon seconded. Motion Passed. Bylaw Updates David Ross shared an update on the bylaw changes. The proposed bylaw changes were ed to members on August 27 th. No one opposed, all in favor at time - 36 yes 0 no 40 active 50 life 90 total The IRS wanted a clearer purpose, a process for dissolution. Our chapter has no outline for online voting so we need to vote to accept the proposed bylaw changes. Need 2/3 vote of active members in attendance. Madeline Green moved to accept the proposed bylaw changes. Karen Redderson seconded. Motion passed 100%. Debbie Ross will post revised approved bylaws. North East Region Second Vice President Nominee Needed: Elaine Bailey shared that National ESP is looking for a Second Vice President nominee from the northeast region; along with the benefits of this role, as the chair of a National committee and service to JCEP, all expenses are paid by ESP when acting in this role. It is a 4-year obligation (vice president, president elect, president, past president). North East Region Vice President Nominee Needed: Jeff Meyers shared that National ESP is looking for someone to fill the North East Region Vice President position for a two year term. The Regional VP chairs a national committee. Jeff shared the benefits of the position. Expenses are covered by ESP. Madeline and other members also shared their thoughts regarding the benefits of the role of Vice President. National ESP Conference Reports: Attended by David Ross, Debbie Ross, Elaine Bailey, Kendra Wells, Sandy Corridon, and Jeff Myers, who all agreed the conference was held at a great location. Chuck Shuster won the Award for International Work. Sandy Corridon received the Distinguished Service Award. All attendees had duties at the conference. Reports were given on the Indy Motor Speedway tour, Lucas Oil Stadium tour, and the Retiree tour of a 580 acres cemetery dating back from the civil war.
Members shared comments on the speakers: AG Historian who is the Dean at Colorado State Capstone Speaker, Will Miller, on Stress Management Ruby Lecture, who is the Purdue 4-H Program Leader, on Founder Syndrome Videos of the speakers can be found at Other presentations from the conference can be found at resources/conference-presentations/presentations/ conference-presentations.html. Pictures from the Conference can be found at National Conference 2015 will be in Coeur d Alene Idaho, October 4-7, Proposals are due March 15, National Conference 2016, will be held in New Jersey. Maryland has committed to helping them. We will handle auction and other possibilities. The location for the conference may be Cape May/Lewis but nothing is confirmed at this time. Maryland JCEP All other associations have agreed to be part of the joint venture, ESP should be the lead. Debbie Ross will work on contacting current and past presidents of other associations with ESP taking on leadership. Jeff Myers stated, first thing is to determine what we expect to come from this joint group. He recommends that we look at the National model. He feels that this could be a great benefit to Maryland, especially since we are so close to ECOP. The Board of Extension Directors has 15 directors who make decisions for extensions across the country, and also has 3 regional directors on the APLU (the Association of Public Land Grant University). These groups have a tremendous impact on the direction of extension. By developing our own JECP, we can have a seat at this table to interact. Elaine Bailey said other states have already started, Penn States JECP is happening today. They have all of their award and recognitions for all of their Associations in front of everyone. Jeff Myers also added that Maryland would benefit because it would bring all Faculty/Staff together every year, unlike the current Maryland system of annual conference which isn t every year. Susan Morris said it was important to include retirees in this group meeting as well.
Debbie Ross stated she was not sure of when the next UME extension conference will be held. She is waiting to meet with Dr. Wright for direction. There is a possibility that Maryland JECP can take leadership to organize this event on non-extension conference years. She will set up a meeting with Ag, 4-H, FCS current Leadership, with ESP taking lead to host a meeting to establish Maryland JECP. Karen Reddersen shared about a National Association of Extension Program and Staff Development Professionals, NAEPSDP, with a total membership of approximately 80 members. They are petitioning this coming year to become recognized by ESP nationally. National ESP News Jeff Myers shared the 2015 National JECP meeting is in Las Vegas, Feb 11-12, The benefit in this location is cheaper airfare & hotels. The theme is Leading Through Trust. April th, 2015 is the PILD Conference is also the 125 th Anniversary of 1890 colleges so that will be the focus for the 2015 PILD conference. They are wanting representation from all program areas. Awards and Recognition Committee Kendra Wells gave a report from the ESP-Tau Chapter Awards & Recognition Committee. Please consider nominating and/or applying for the awards and scholarships available to ESP members such as: 1 st time PILD attendee scholarship McKinney Award for Public Issues (its last year) Professional Development Grants - applications due three times each year (Dec 1, Mar 1, May 1) Dick Angus Professional Development Scholarship Service and Program Awards - Due to state by Feb.1 and to national by Mar.1. Friend of Extension Award- applications due to state by Feb 1 and to National by Mar 1. Historian Report Susan Morris stated digital photos and documents are to go into the Historical file. Please send any you have to Susan. Officer Nominations Debbie Ross nominated Chuck Schuster for Tau Chapter President Elect Position. Nomination was seconded by Jeff Meyers. The motion passed. Karen Reddersen moved to close nominations. Amanda seconded this motion. Passed. Motion The Silent Auction was held throughout the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
