Representative Randy Weber is the original co-sponsor of this legislation which would block federal funding for sanctuary cities who ignore federal immigration laws. Congressman Randy Weber regularly challenges the EPA and their costly regulations. During July the Congressman offered an amendment to the Interior and EPA Appropriations bill that would require the EPA to follow the law and conduct ongoing evaluations of how the agency s regulations impact American jobs. This amendment passed by a voice vote. Rep. Weber and his colleagues in Congress passed HR 774, the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing Enforcement Act of 2015 sending a clear message to coastal business that they are on our side. Rep. Weber said It is imperative for our coastal businesses to maintain an economic advantage and strong action must be taken to prevent illegal fishing by foreign fishing boats in our waters. Representative Weber s newest bill, the Firearms Rights Equality Enforced (FREE) Act of 2015 would allow Americans to have their valid state Open-carry or Concealed Carry permits recognized nationwide. U. S. Senate: United States Senator John Cornyn issued the following statement in response to reports the Obama Administration is finalizing plans to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility with the terror group ISIS posing a growing and unceasingly real threat to the American people, the last thing the administration ought to do is bring hardened terrorist to our backyard. Further from Sr. Cornyn: After striking a lopsided deal with a hostile Iranian regime and now trying to make good on an ill-conceived campaign promise, The President seems more concerned about his future legacy than his current job. From around the Texas Capitol: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick made the following statement regarding Comptroller Glenn Hagar s announcement that Texas will not borrow to meet short term cash flow needs. Comptroller Hagar s confirmation that Texas has sufficient financial reserves to meet our state s commitments is just the latest by-product of the conservative budget passed during this past legislative session. By holding the line on spending and protecting the Rainey Day fund, the Texas Legislature followed the lead of Texas businesses and families who live within their means and seek to avoid compiling debt. This past session of the Texas
5 LEGISLATIVE REPORT for AUGUST 2015 (continued) Legislature provided billions in tax relief for Texas homeowners and businesses in 2015 and should be well positioned to provide additional tax relief when it reconvenes in From Representative Greg Bonnen: Dr. Greg Bonnen (R) announced he will seek a 3 rd term representing the 24 th Dist. In the House of Representatives Sr. Larry Taylor: The Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC) announced that Sr. Taylor has earned the designation of Courageous Conservative based on his voting record during the 84 th Legislative session. Sr. Taylor and Rep. Faircloth signed on to a letter from the Texas Conservative Coalition in support of Governor Greg Abbott s direction to investigate the atrocious allegations of Planned Parenthood s callous behavior regarding the possible illegal sale of fetal tissue. Ceremonial Bill Signing for TWIA Reform Sen. Taylor stood with his coastal colleagues and watched Governor Greg Abbott officially sign Senate Bill 900, Texas Windstorm Insurance Association reform legislation, into law. Similar legislation has been worked on for many years, and this was a big victory for coastal residents. Sen. Taylor and colleagues watch as Governor Greg Abbott signs Senate Bill 900 into law. HenryFreudenburg and Marie Robb from SD 11 traveled to Austin from Galveston for the occasion.
