1 CCRW Newsletter for May (281) Political Advertising paid for by Clear Creek Republican Women Quote of the Decade A liberal s paradise would be a place where everybody has guaranteed employment, free comprehensive health care, free education, free food, free housing, free clothing, free utilities, and only law enforcement has guns. And believe it or not, such a place does indeed already exist; It s called Prison. Sheriff Joe Arpaio Maricopa County, Arizona Inside this issue: Top Golf Fundraiser 2 State Rep. Greg Bonnen MD 3 Calendar of Events 4 Greetings from CCRW. I hope everyone had a nice April and was spared from the recent flooding. Today is a beautiful day with flowerbeds being replenished and trees bursting out with new growth. Truly glorious! However, Mother Nature doesn t seem to mind that the Republican leadership is trying to chart a path forward against the background of the Presidential campaigns. Since the second big Super Tuesday on March 15th, we have seen Wisconsin (42 delegates) followed by New York (95) and the next big super Tuesday is April 26th with Connecticut (28), Delaware (16), Maryland (38), Pennsylvania (71) and Rhode Island (19) all being contested on that day. May is a slow month with only a handful of states holding primaries for a total of 112 delegates at stake the entire month. And it all leads up to the last Super Tuesday on June 7th when California (172), Montana (27), New Jersey (51), New Mexico (24) and South Dakota (29) bring the primary season to an end Clinton s challenge and the Democratic Party s challenge is how to ensure that all of those Bernie voters show back up to vote for Hillary in November. Most of them are young and don t think highly of Hillary. A good portion of Bernie voters says their second choice is Trump. On the Republican side things are much more interesting. At this point Trump is the only one that has much of a shot at 1237 at the convention. All delegates are bound to their candidates for the first ballot, and most for a second; but by the third ballot all delegates become free agents and can vote for whomever is nominated. A big clue to the strategy of the Republican Leadership will come when the rules for the convention are adopted. Currently, there is rule that a candidate cannot be nominated at the convention unless they win a minimum of 8 states. If that rules stays in effect, then only Trump and Cruz can be nominated. But perhaps the most interesting speculation is about the strategy of the Republican Leadership toward the two leading candidates. Onward to June.
