President s Message Herd Peppers, Well the much awaited big event of the year is almost here. Our Perry Hampton Day starts at noon on Saturday April 22nd, in Blanco. This is the biggest event we hold every year. This is when we honor a member for being most like one of our founding club members. The day will be filled with many of our former members of LCC telling story's about their great experiences during their time in the club. The food is always GREAT, and you can get a sense of what it was like during those years. Someone will be recognized for what all they do for this club. You never think it will be you, but who knows? It might be YOU! So come out, enjoy a great time, good food, meet former members, discuss upcoming events of the club for this year and mostly enjoy our Vettes. Dr Pepper Racer the most surprised recpient of this Honored Award Last Year, ~Lynn Bailey

Vice-President s Message Welcome Herd!!! We are fast approaching our busiest time of the year, as the weather warms and the sky s lighten. This past month we enjoyed a couple of special events. One special event was the Tacos and Tech Day at Austin Corvette and the next was a Test and Tune day at the Little River-Academy, Drag Strip. April brings us auto cross events across the SW Region, with the first regional event in Waco. The next major event will be held the last weekend of April at Texas Motor Speedway, (TMS). The weekend will have 12 low speed events on the famous infield track inside the oval. These are some of what s coming up. However the most significant event of our club is taking place on April 22nd. It is the 38th Annual Celebration of the memory of one of our beloved founders, Perry Hampton. This years Perry Hampton Award Ceremony and Dinner will be held at Mark Watson s place in Blanco. We will be enjoying his famous fajitas. We also will have grilled veggies for those fajitas as well. It is asked that anyone with their last names beginning with the letters A-J, bring an appetizer to the event. Anyone with their last name beginning with the letters, K-Z bring a desert to share with others in attendance. Our Governor and master of our Sweetheart Rally, Mike Sears, will lead the Herd on a cruise to this peaceful place along side the Blanco River. More details on this event are included in the Bulletin, check them out and RSVP, as soon as possible, as we want to make sure everyone has enough fajitas. The Perry Hampton Committee, and I look forward to seeing you on April 22nd! This month s LCC Trivia Quiz will be based on Perry Hampton information, published in this months Bulletin. :) See ya soon and Save the Wave! ~David Safely

Governor s Message Howdy Herd, I encourage everyone to come to the meeting this week. The club has won a regional award. Come see which one it is. The drag event was a big success and I am looking forward to doing something like that again. We had a great turn out from the region. While this was a practice drag, there were a lot of quick cars out there setting fast times. Remember, it is each of you that makes the club what it is, your leadership, your passion and your willingness to come out and make things happen. Please pull together to make the club the best Corvette club in the region. Have fun and keep the rubber side down! Mike Sears ~ Governor Mike will lead the cruise to the Perry Hampton Award Ceremony. Please meet at 11 a.m. at Jim s at the Y in Oak Hill.

Longhorn Corvette Club Perry Hampton Memorial Award and Picnic April 22, 2017 On behalf of the 2017 Perry Hampton Committee and the Longhorn Corvette Club, we are very honored to invite all LCC members, past award recipients and the family of Perry Hampton to the annual Perry Hampton Memorial Award presentation and picnic. 6 Perry Hampton, what is it all about? For those who are new to LCC, you may not know why this annual celebration is so important to the club and why the Perry Hampton Award is the highest honor that can be awarded to a club member. Many of you may have read the piece written by the late Steve Hoes (a prior recipient) and while I don t pretend that I can match it s eloquence, I thought that it was time to put some new words on paper instead of re-printing it again. I was not lucky enough to have met Perry in person. At the time of his unfortunate and much too early passing I was a pre-teen living 1000 miles away who could only dream of owning a Corvette someday. Everyone who did know Perry always has nothing but good things to say about him and the kind of person he was. Not only was he a tireless worker who always put the good of the club and its members first, he was also an unfailing friend who was always willing to reach out to people and to lend a hand even though he was often battling his own health issues. It is to honor Perry s memory that LCC holds this ceremony and names the award recipient every year. The person who is selected each year is to be the person who most embodied the spirit of Perry through their actions in the previous calendar year. The recipients have shown themselves to be selfless in working for the club and the charities it supports and they are people who are friends to everyone. ~Leeland Heins Editor and member of the 2016 committee

From the Editor This is my fourth issue as Editor of the LCC BULLetin. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it for you. As always I need to thank my better half Kelley Knight Heins for many of the photos used in both this and last month s issues. Without her help this would be a much greater challenge. If you use Twitter for posting pics of our events or just tweeting about club functions or Corvettes in general, please use the hash tag #longhorncorvetteclub. Leeland Heins ~ Editor Feedback Requested: Thank you to those of you who sent me something for the BULLetin. Keep em coming! I m always looking for original articles, photos or videos that would be of interest to Corvette owners. If you take any pictures or videos at one of our events I would greatly appreciate if you would send them to me for possible inclusion in the BULLetin! Have something you want to add? Please contact or mailto:editor@longhorncorvette.com

Tech Corner (member articles) This section is for content provided by LCC Members. Anyone is welcome to submit articles which would be of interest to Corvette owners. In particular it would be great if someone would write some articles about the early Corvettes (C1 & C2) or later Corvettes (C5-C7). Up to Date news and info from Chevrolet an original article by Kelley Knight Heins When we bought Beva truck, I signed up for updates and such from Chevy. I get a lot of and snail mail. But when I want to learn more about Corvettes, my 2015 Silverado, and other products made by Chevy, the info is at my fingertips. New Roads Magazine New Roads magazine is like the in flight magazines with interesting articles on where Chevy is taking styling and design cues from for its new vehicles, normally something about how celebrities love their Chevy's, etc. The article on the 2000 Corvette with over 730,000 miles on the clock being used daily and hauling things like lawn mowers and baseball equipment for a little league team, etc. made me realize how most people think that our Corvettes can't hold more than a matchstick. Also, in this issue is a great article on Corvette Racing. Check it out at Discounts on Service Did you know that there are Chevy service specials and rebates on tires, spark plugs, and batteries? And if you combine it with up to 20 percent discount at our club's sponsor, Henna, you might get a really good deal. Henna will service any GM vehicle so you can take the Cadillac to them for tires and an oil change

along with your Corvette. Check out the monthly specials at Remember that Henna can't sell you items below their costs so that's why I say up to 20 percent. Some of the oil change specials are pretty much at cost on Corvettes and Silverados. On my truck the oil changes, mount and balance of 4 tires, and the alignment were cheaper than most auto service chains and I brought it in unscheduled at 8:00 a.m. and it was ready at 3 p.m. (Lee gave me a ride). Henna is open till 7 p.m. and sometimes if you call before 5 p.m. and need an oil change or one of the other "quick services" they can squeeze you in. Chevy Performance Yes, when I upgraded Beva truck's exhaust and intake last year, I got some gentle nudges from the Chevy Performance newsletter that I get. I purchased the parts from Henna Parts counter to get a good discount on the items. Beva sure does get good gas mileage now and has a nice snort like the Longhorn cattle she represents. She consistently on the highway gets about 19 to 23 mpg not bad for 5.3L V8 truck. Chevy has other e-newsletters like Fuel, and The Block, has up to date news on Corvettes winning the endurance races and awesome photos: This photo reminds me of how dirty Beva was after the recent trip to the Valley. 26 LCC Fast and Classic Show Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Texas Human Heroes to enhance the services provided through the Pets for Patriots program. The program can help veterans with adoption fees, initial set up costs, discounts at veterinarians, and such. If we just covered the adoption fees this means there is the potential that 1,000 animals can adopt veterans. HR Strickland filed an assumed name application with the Secretary of State so LCC Fast and Classic Show is ours. Leeland Heins purchased the domain and developed a splash page. Teresa Nicholson secured us the venue. Hopefully by Perry Hampton we will have the logo and the flier sans sponsors logos done. If you own/manage a company that would like to sponsor the event, please let us know. Cash is great but in-kind sponsors like awards, printing, etc. are very much appreciated. The levels of sponsorship are: Lone Star Le Mans $2,500 exclusive sponsorship Le Mans $1000 to $2,499 Sebring $500 to $999 Watkins Glen $250 to $499 Petite Le Mans $100 to $249 Depending on the level, you or your company will get various advertising perks, dedicated parking spots, etc. me at activities@longhorncorvette.com for a package.
