1 22 eeting n April 2015 CTR Queen s Court Contest Chisholm Cup Golf Tournament This Chisholm Trail Roundup Queen s Court and Little Miss CTR Competition will kick off this month, and is open to young ladies enrolled in Lockhart Independent School District. To compete for Queen, you must be a sophomore, junior or senior during school year Our Little Miss competition is open to 1st 5th graders. The 7th Annual Chisholm Cup Golf Tournament will be held at Quail Creek Country Club on Sunday, April 26th at 11am. There will be a Happy Gilmore Driving Contest and Putting Competition followed by shotgun start at 1pm. Applications have been dropped off at each of the school campuses, and can also be found at or at the chamber office. Our newly crowned queen will be eligible for a $2,000 education scholarship, plus as a prize package for her and her court. We will hold a mandatory informational/sign up meeting on Thursday, April 9th, 6:30 p.m. at the First Lockhart National Bank Community Room. We encourage anyone who is interested in participating in the competition or has questions to call the Chamber office at Early registration for this event runs through Friday, April 17th at 5pm at the Lockhart Chamber at $75 per players or $300 a team. The day of the tournament the cost is $100 per player, so register early. The top 3 teams will receive cash and prizes and players will receive a sleeve of golf balls and a CTR cap. Hole sponsorships are also available at $100 per hole. For more information about signing up or for sponsorships, please call the Chamber at or go to to download an application. We will be going to an all armband system for this year s CTR, so instead of buttons, our queen competitors will sell vouchers redeemable at the park for a 2-day armband. The cost is $15.00 per voucher and will get you free parking, access to the CTR grounds and all music venues on Friday and Saturday. We have a super lineup this year, and we encourage you to buy your vouchers in advance. Little Miss competitors will sell raffle tickets for $6 each for a chance to win a $500 Visa gift card. 2 LUNCHEON The monthly Chamber luncheon will be held on Thursday, April 9th at 12 noon at First Lockhart Baptist Church Connection Center, 200 S. Blanco. This month s luncheon will be sponsored by Lockhart Motor Co. Catering will be provided by Henry s at $10 per person. The Member Only cash drawing is $300 (You must be present to win and a member in good standing.) Vietnam Veterans Homecoming If you, or someone you know, is a Vietnam veteran, you are cordially invited to attend this event. Please pass the word. The Lockhart and Luling Chambers of Commerce, along with multiple local veterans organizations, have begun work on an event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the cessation of the Vietnam Conflict, by honoring our Vietnam veterans with a proper homecoming. This event is scheduled to take place at the Lockhart High School Football Field on April 18th, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. We currently have a planning committee of representatives from Lockhart, Luling and San Marcos. The committee is in great need of donations to make this event possible. 100% of your dollars will be used to offset the costs associated with providing dinner and door prizes to these brave and courageous men and women and their families. 3 Report PRESIDENT S Report CTR 2015 Entertainment Lineup THE LOCKHART CHAMBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS PLEASED TO PRESENT TO YOU: THURSDAY, JUNE 11 SMALL BUSINESS EXPENSING Small businesses are facing significant new tax burdens if small business expensing is not addressed for Business expensing (Section 179 in the tax code) allows small businesses to immediately deduct the full value of investments in equipment in the year the investment is made, instead of depreciating it over time, with an expensing limit. On January 1, 2015, the small business expensing limit dropped from $500,000 to only $25,000 due to the expiration of H.R. 5771, which had restored the business expensing limit to $500,000 for 2014 only. However, H.R. 636 (America s Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2015 shown below) passed the House recently, and was introduced to the Senate on Feb. 23rd. If you support passage of H.R. 636, please write Senators Cornyn or Cruz. Both the allowance and the threshold amount are indexed for inflation for taxable years beginning after The allowance is also made permanent for computer software and qualified real property (i.e., qualified leasehold improvement property, restaurant property, and retail improvement property). The exclusion of air conditioning and heating units from the definition of section 179 property is eliminated.
