The joining fee for the Exchange Club of Mattoon is $40.00, payable on the date of application submittal. Proposed changes (shown in italics) as recommended by the Board of Directors at it's regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 1, The dues of The Exchange Club of Mattoon are $33.00 per quarter ($ per year). The joining fee for the Exchange Club of Mattoon is $48.00, payable on the date of application submittal. If approved by a 2/3 majority of the members present at the August 10, 2016 meeting, the changes above will become effective beginning with the fourth quarter of WALK / RUN for the FALLEN Carolyn Cloyd made a presentation to The Exchange Club of Mattoon on the Run for the Fallen recognition by those who are free because of the brave. Now in the sixth year the Run / Walk for those service members that fell in Afghanistan or Iraq is honored by people walking a mile, or more, to honor one of the 252 Illinois service members that have died. Hundreds have walked or run the Charleston High School track honoring a veteran they knew or that had been assigned at the registration. ONE MILE ONE FLAG ONE HERO. Started in 2010 this non-political nonprofit event has had more than 800 participants each year. With more than 6852 heroes having given of themselves in service to our country please consider participating this year Saturday August 20 between 7:00 am and 1:00 pm at the High school track. Preregistration is preferred or show up at 920 Smith Drive, Charleston, Illinois. 3 Page 3 NEWSVIEWS SUPPORTING READERS BRIDGE Max Jaeger, President of Readers Bridge, is shown at recent Exchange Club of Mattoon meeting where the club provided a $250 check to support he Readers Bridge program. This is an annual group that the Exchange Club supports for the youth of our area. Readers Bridge was started in 2001 primarily by Virginia Katzeff of Toledo. It was Virginia s dream that no individual or family in east-central Illinois would be denied a library card due to having a lack of money. Over 1,000 individuals or families have received a sponsored card since that date. Readers Bridge pays 90% of the cost of a library card for an individual or family living outside of a library taxing district and that cannot afford a library card. For the most part, these are people living in rural areas. Mattoon s non-resident card, for example, currently is $75. Readers Bridge would pay $67.50 and the qualified applicant would pay $7.50 to receive a non-resident library card. Financial need for recipients can include working only part-time, children eligible for reduced or free school meals, subsidized housing, Link card, receiving temporary assistance for needy families (TANF), etc. Their local librarian signs off on their application certifying their need for card sponsorship. Application forms are in the local libraries. FOOTBALL RAFFLE TICKETS Football season is opening very soon. Gary spends his hours in the comfort of his workshop area with warmth, TV and enjoys the results such as this house. RAFFLE Prepare to offer grandparents, parents, aunts or uncles an opportunity to be the owner of this fine home for a small contribution of $10 or offer added chances by the purchase of 10 tickets at a bargain rate of $100. This fund raising will be decided after the sale of 500 tickets. The Board has indicated that Gary and Gail will assign the donation at the conclusion of the raffle.
