Roll call Question of the day: What do you want for Christmas? Guests: Mike Pehler, Amy Dalrymple, Aaron Wittnebel, Thomas Lane (for advisor Wiese) Public Hearing: Bonkoski: I have heard concerns about the lack of clocks in the bathrooms. Also, the names rub off of the new id cards. Financial aid gets messed up for RA's. Pehler: Security is now located in the former Delta Zeda house. We are waiting for a new building. We got new uniforms. We do work closely with the police. Crime on campus...the biggest problem is that it is not all reported. There are always 2-3 officers patrolling at all times. You should be using the escort system. Burglary is high reported last year. Last year there were 0 reported sexual assaults. Now there has been 3 this year. Kappel: Is the report online? Pehler: Yes, it is linked form the Home Page. Welken: How soon will the police station be moving in? Pehler: I am not sure about the timeline. I've been told it should be in the spring. Welken: How do crime statistics compare with other campuses? We are very open about what has been reported. Some campuses don't report everything. I don't think people will stop coming to MSUM due to our crime report. Stromberg: Does your move to the former Delta Zeda

2 House change the protection around the residence halls, being they are on the other side of campus? Pehler: No, the RA's are taking more responsibility. They outnumber us. Schneider: You're going to have Moorhead Police Officers in the building? Pehler: No. Officers will be assigned there. They are usually on patrol. We would be able to call them. Schneider: How is the crime compared to previous years? Pehler: We are fairly level. It depends on the enrollment. Kappel: Do you do any education programs? Pehler: We try to, but they usually do it in the halls. This fall, during orientation, we did a short program with the freshmen. Last week the Moorhead Police and we did a program with the gamers group. There were 50 ppl there. Nelson: If we have a situation where a security officer is too forceful and inappropriate, what should we do? Pehler: Come in and talk to me. Tell me exactly what went on. We will file a complaint with the campus conduct committeee. Kalsnes: Speak your mind boards...ppl upset with snow removal. They are also unhappy about the ticketing...they need better labeling. Kappel: Ppl complaining about snow removal. Ppl like the speak your mind boards. Krasny: Why don't we have a quiet "night" place to study? Stromberg: Id's go off when you go into Scheels. I also have to take classes that weren't needed in '98 when I started. The chair of the dept decides if I should be grandfathered in or not. Is this fair? Nelson: Beeping card thin is being taken care of. Savig: Now you have to either walk around the Library

3 or by the street. What is going on here? Snow removal is bad. It needs to be cleared off closer to the new ash trays. Welken: I have sad news. Dr. Ted Larson died yesterday. The Library roof is being worked on. They are doing brick work. The fence is up so students aren't hit by bricks. Bonkoski: We should send a sympathy card out tomorrow. Kalsnes: If you or friends are ticketed in an unclear area, call Mike Pehler. He will personally come look at it. Rudd: I think we should get these good agendas all the time. The ones in the bookstore suck. You only get these is you are in FYE. Other Reports: Campus Rep Savig: CD Rep Bell: Executive Reports: Advisor Wiese: No Report Submitted. Secretary Ohnstad: I am sick and am unable to speak loudly. The plant is sickly. Please get your reports into me. I like this new standing thing. I think there is a rule where if the professor is over 10 Minutes late for class, it is acceptable to leave. Is this true? If it is, where is it written? Officer Reports: Treasurer Stromberg: Vice President Welken: Attended SABC Meeting Attended IFO Evaluation Task Force - Proposed Idea to have a universal evaluation form that faculty are recommended to use -If faculty are to use this form then the deans will not conduct individual student interviews to be used as the promotion basis, the deans then will be able to conduct interviews with students of departments and this information is not to be used for promotion and or tenure -If a faculty member doesn't use this form, then the deans have the right to review the current for the faculty are using and have the opportunity to interview students and this information will be used in the promotion and tenure basis

4 -This policy is still in the working process, and I need input on if students think it is a good plan -Filled out room reservation form for a room for next semester, and this form will be turned in on Dec. 11, Announcement of the VP steering committee was made by President Barden -this list is available in the Senate office President Nelson: Committee Reports: Academic Affairs: Present: Bonkoski, Elmer, Noland, Savig Noland: still working on checklist. DARS will be implemented in the near future. Savig: Talked to Dr. Midgarden about: 1. Grad Classes that is a certified program 2. Language classes talked to Bruce Roberts about Swahili class also will need to talk to continuing studies about this. It could also be a topic class or a temp class. 3. Individualized majors. P. 7 of bulletin. University studies p. 37 of bulletin. Elmer: Will talk to administration about the Distinguished faculty list. Bonkoski: Still waiting for Midgarden's and Helfter-Glover's answer about SI committee. WE are still looking into transfer credits. As of right now, the head of the department makes the decision whether they transfer or not. Worked extensively on Distinguished faculty list. Motion about eating during Public Hearing failed out of committee. Just please be respectful during public hearing. This is where the issues are coming forward. 5 *Blood Drive -campus wide -faculty *Carding -elderly *Shovel Walks *Street Dances -live band -Bracelets -Donate to charity *Walk for cancer, leukemia *Paintball -admission *Basketball (wheelchair style) *Mr. Moorhead *Scavenger hunt Student Services: No report submitted Old Business Motion Whereas the Tuition recommendation brought forth on Nov by Dr. Barden appears reasonable. Whereas the other state universities are raising tuition by more that MSU Moorhead's Administration proposes. Whereas annual inflation of 3% is reasonable to see in the effects of tuition. Resolved: Student Senate supports the tuition recommendation of 5% and moving up to 7% if it is deemed necessary by the University. Discussion Passes New Business Motion Pepple/Schneider Whereas motion on recommended that student senate draft a letter to The Advocate. Whereas the motion passed by a small margin. Whereas six members were not present during the vote. Resolved that student senate reconsider motion Discussion on reconsidering-passes Discussion of Motion Motion Reads: Whereas The Advocate is often read by prospective students and their parents Whereas this school year the content of The Advocate has declined, in particular, recent articles concerning the Bloodhoud Gang. Whereas many students on campus have expressed concern over some of the articles printed in Then Advocate Recommended: The Student Senate shall write a letter to The Advocate expressing concerns over the content of the newspaper. Hermann: Great to see real debate. Savig: Great to see people hot under the collar. Kappel: I'm still happy there was such good debate on my motion. Voss: You all know I love this stuff. Rasmussen: I am happy that people spoke their mind. Let's be a loving body again.

7 Bonkoski: People who haven't spoken before, thank you for speaking. Nelson: Thank you Kappel for bringing your own motion to the floor. If this would've happened last year, we'd be here yet or we would have walked out in frustration. Welken: Tuition rec. is the biggest thing we did tonight. Voss: Isn't it pathetic it passed with 2 speakers? Maybe we should reconsider... Announcements Kalsnes: I found someone who will do shirts for cheap. me as to what you want. I will send an as the the specific prices. Enger: Let's go to Bennigans after the meeting. Lane: Senior Year experience...sign up... Hermann: Dec. 7th...I will be doing my Junior recital in Fox recital Hall. Please come...8pm Savig: Will have long range plan for upcoming conferences. Kappel: Sat.
