1 Unofficial Minutes until (May 5th, 2018) ASEWU COUNCIL ME E T I N G MINU T E S Thursday, May 4th, 2018 JFK Library Lobby, First Floor, 3:30 p.m. Today s ASEWU Council meeting will be streaming live on Facebook. 1. The meeting was called to order at 3:39 p.m. by Executive Vice President Elizabeth Shimamoto. 2. A motion was made to approve the agenda by Zack Bowman; seconded by Ashley Jenniges iii. Motion passes unanimously 4. Speaking Rights Council members and members of the gallery will be limited to three turns of two minutes on each subject, with the exception of the first speaker on each subject, reports and guest speakers, all of whom will be allowed five minutes to open. A motion was made to approve of funding for a barbecue event with EWU Police not to exceed $800 for food from the Council s budget with the completion of EagleSync forms by Zack Bowman; seconded by Kennedy Bailey b. Approval of funding a Psi Chi Memorial Day event in the amount of $370 from the Council s budget as a co-sponsored event upon the completion of EagleSync forms Chris Ryckman [7 min] i. A motion was made to approve of funding a Psi Chi Memorial Day event in the amount of $370 from the Council s budget as a co-sponsored event upon the completion of EagleSync forms by Ben Rowe; seconded by Kennedy Bailey c. Approval of funding for Coffee with the Council in the amount up to $260 with the completion of Eagle Sync forms Chris Ryckman [6 min] i. Get a taste of the islands and the spirit of aloha. Eastern s Hui o Hawai i Club is holding their annual luau this Saturday, May 5 in Hargreaves Hall 201 beginning at
4 5:30 p.m. and the show starting at 7:00 p.m. Cost: EWU students/non-students $10/15 pre-sale and $15/$18 at the door. for tickets. [1 min] b. The EWU Pride Center invites the campus community to attend their Ninth Annual Lavender Graduation. It takes place tomorrow evening, May 4, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Hargreaves Hall 201 The Lavender Graduation is a cultural celebration which recognizes graduating LGBTQ+ students and allies from area universities, colleges and high schools in the throughout the Inland Northwest. [1 min] c. Next week is Eastern s annual Diversity and Inclusion Week May 7-10, A wide variety programs and events are scheduled for the week. Highlights of the week activities include the following. [3 min] May 7: President s Dialogue on Diversity in Hargreaves Hall 201 from noon- 1:00 p.m. featuring the topic, We are Still Here: Native Student Voices in Celebration of 50 Years of American Indian Studies. May 9: Ballet Folklorico de Atzlan Performance and Discussion with Diana Chavira-Lopez. The country of Mexico is composed of multi-ethnic and multiracial residents whose culture change from states to states. These states possess their own regional dances that are fused with different rhythms and sounds. The presentation breaks down the history of the different dances Ballet Folklorico de Atzlan performs. This event takes place from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Hargreaves Hall 201. May 9: Film screening of the critically acclaimed thriller, Get Out, followed by a panel discussion featuring Jevion Knox, Vanessa Delgado, Shantell Jackson and Angela Schwendiman. The movie will be shown in Martin Hall 158 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. May 10: This year, the Diversity and Inclusion Festival takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Campus Mall. This annual favorite festival offers students an opportunity to sample foods and experience different cultures. Attached is a complete listing of the activities of Diversity and Inclusion Week. d.
