1 Unofficial Minutes until (May 24th, 2018) ASEWU COUNCIL ME E T I N G MINU T E S Thursday, May 17th, 2018 JFK Library Lobby, First Floor, 3:30 p.m. Today s ASEWU Council meeting will be streaming live on Facebook. 1. The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Executive Vice President Elizabeth Shimamoto. 2. 3 a. Chris Ryckman was brought to his attention for Swoopalooza and was approached about providing a big prize or a few prizes. b. Alex asked if this was a prize for showing up i. To go to the event c. Colton asked how that would work with the budget i. We can approve up to 50 but we can dip into our club revenue d. Jake asked what happened to the money in the club revenue i. Rolls over for next year e. Ben still fully awards f. Zack says that you can still go online and volunteer g. Chris says that if you wanted a big ticket item you don t need to vote for them h. Gaige explains Swoopalooza and Bumberswoop i. Jake says we should get tickets to a different place 13. Unfinished Business a. Approval of joining the NAGPS Elizabeth Shimamoto [6 min] i. Jake says that the bylaws says attend when possible and we need to change that to attend like it is in the WSA for legislative affairs ii. Colton asked what we would get out of joining rather than joining - Will says that this is our way to get representation at the federal level iii. Elizabeth says that point of order to the bylaws still need to go to R&P iv. Gaige says that he believes it will be needed to reworked a lot at R&P and would advise that we wait to talk about this later v. A motion was made by Ben Rowe to extend the discussion time by 3 minutes; seconded by Jake Radawick vi. Motion passes unanimously vii. Ben thinks that joining the NAGPS will step into the arena of starting to advocate for students and believes it has a low financial tag. viii. Chris asks if there was a program that can focus on graduate and undergraduate - While the organizations specifically focus on graduate it still has some affect on undergraduate issues - Dues are also $500 a year ix. A motion was made to approve of joining the NAGPS by Ben Rowe; seconded by Zack Bowman - Jake says that he doesn t feel comfortable voting on this with he bylaws - Gaige says that at this point he is unable to explain what Eastern gains from joining this.

4 - Will says that our time during our work week is minimal time and being able to do the most and that its just him doing all the lobbying x. Motion passes 5:4:0 14. New Business a. Approval of funding for Coffee with the Council on May 24th, in the amount not to exceed $230 with the completion of Eagle Sync forms Chris Ryckman [6 min] i. Chris recommends we up the amount to 275 ii. 5 15. Appointments a. Discussion regarding the appointment of Kyle Hogarty as the ASEWU Executive Assistant for Spring Quarter 2018 Gaige Baisch [5 min] 16. Announcements i. A motion was made to approve of the appointment of Kyle Hogarty as the ASEWU Executive Assistant for Spring Quarter 2018 by Jake Radawick; seconded by Ben Rowe ii. Motion passes unanimously a. ASEWU Election Update: Pending the outcome of an election appeal, the certification of the ASEWU general election results will be a discussion topic at the May 22 work session and then as a voting item at the May 24 Council meeting. [1 min] b. Although Washington State s primary election won t take place until August, now would be a good time to register to vote! Ben Rowe and the ASEWU is hosting a Floats for Votes voter registration drive tomorrow, May 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Tawanka Skirt. Just look for the folks giving away free root beer floats! [1 min] c. Upcoming Events May 17: Meet Simon Tam, the lead singer for The Slants, when he talks about The Slants historic Supreme Court victory for the right to trademark their band s name. This presentation will be given in Showalter Auditorium beginning at 5:00 p.m. [1 min] May 17: Late Night Paint Twister. SAIL invites students to Paint Twister, a different spin on the familiar old classic Twister. Rumor has it that this game will get a little messy! Join SAIL tonight at 9:00 p.m. in the snyamncut lawn area. [1 min] May 18 and May 19: The Spirit of the Eagle Powwow. EWU s NASA and SFCC s Red Nations will be celebrating the Spirit of the Eagle Powwow this weekend. The grand entry tomorrow evening (May 18) is at 7:00 p.m. and on May 19 there are two grand entries one at 1:00 p.m. and the second at 7:00 p.m. For both days, the event will be held in Reese Court Pavilion. This is a free event and everyone is welcomed. [1 min] May 23: Game Night. Make room for a movie that could be an end gamer Game Night [R, 100 minutes]! It s showing in Martin Hall 158 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Free popcorn and punch will be available. [1 min] May 29: Murder Mystery Dinner. Be a part of the drama and intrigue of a 1920 s themed murder mystery beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Hargreaves Hall 201 (the reading room). Eagle Entertainment will be giving away free tickets next week beginning on Tuesday, May 22 until May 24 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the campus mall. Don t be disappointed; get your tickets early! [1 min] May 31: Black Panther. It s movie time at EWU and a great time to take a study break. See the free showing of the blockbuster Black Panther (PG-13, 134 minutes). King T'Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje Wakandan Special Forces to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war. It will be shown in Martin Hall 158 beginning at 9:00 p.m. [1 min] June 1: Swoopalooza Don t miss an EWU music festival to remember! It takes place on Roos Field beginning at noon and features artists Frank Ray, Icarus Account and Night Argent. In addition to music, there will be miniature golf, an inflatable twister and homemade goods for sale. Admission is free to EWU students.

6 There is a charge for a wristband, which is good for all-access food during this event, for $6.50. This is Eagle Entertainment s final big event for the academic year! [1 min] d.
