1 I. Name Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association Constitution August 2013 A. The official name of this club shall be Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA). B. The UMass Lowell chapter of MEISA is affiliated with the Visual and Performing Arts Collaborative (VPAC) at UMass Lowell II. Purpose It shall be the purpose of this organization to: a. Make available to the members opportunities for professional development and awareness in the music and entertainment industry b. Provide for its members opportunities to become acquainted with leaders in the music and entertainment industry as gained from participation in programs and demonstrations, discussions, field trips, and lectures planned by this organization. c. Provide any and all University of Massachusetts Lowell student(s) with the opportunity to benefit from any organization programs. III. Membership A. Membership shall be open to anyone enrolled in academic courses and interested in the music and entertainment industry. B. Membership shall not be limited based on academic major or standing. C. Any student may become an official member of this organization by registering through collegiatelink. IV. Quorum Requirements The number of members needed to conduct business shall be six with at least one person fulfilling each officer position. V. Election of Officers A. The officers of this organization shall be President, Vice President, Secretary,

2 Treasurer, Public Relations Coordinator, and Promotions Coordinator. B. Any candidate for office shall have been a member of the organization for at least one full semester prior to his or her nomination. C. Any candidate for office shall and must have at least two remaining semesters at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. D. Each officer shall assume his or her office at the conclusion of the spring semester immediately after being inaugurated and must serve one year through the conclusion of the following spring semester. E. In case a vacancy occurs in the office of President, the Vice President shall assume the duties of that office for the remainder of the term of office. Vacancies in any of the other offices shall be filled by election. F. These officers shall be considered the VI. Executive Board All Officers: a. Attend every meeting and event b. Act as a role model to other members and represent MEISA in a professional manner. c. Declare at least two (2) hours every week as your office hours. A. President: a. Outline the schedule of events for the entire academic year b. Plan all meetings c. Be in constant contact with the Office of Student Activities and arrange meetings with Student Activities weekly (or as often as needed). d. Attend all banquets, dinners, and outings (to the best of one s ability) that are planned by the Office of Student Activities. e. Fulfill the role as Producer for Mothers of Rock. f. Make arrangements for all trips including, but limited to conferences, lectures, and events.

3 g. Constantly search out ways to better MEISA as an organization. h. President has final say on all decisions unless unanimously overruled by e board. B. Vice President: a. Assist President in any way needed. b. Make sure all officers and members are completing assigned tasks on time. c. Attend all banquets, dinners, and outings (to the best of one s ability) that are planned by the Office of Student Activities. d. Help President with the planning of events and trips/conferences. e. Organize monthly Open Mics. C. Secretary: This position is only available to incoming juniors and sophomores. This is to ensure that there is never a year that all officers will be graduating and so the secretary can help inform the new officers and make the transition easier. a. Take notes at every meeting b. Send minutes for every meeting out by within 48 hours. c. Research information needed to plan events (i.e. trips, conferences, concerts, etc.) d. Send out reminders about meetings and other upcoming events e. Keep track of attendance at all meetings and events f. Submit all Event Forms to collegiatelink g. Submit club registration to collegiatelink D. Public Relations: a. Organize monthly speaker panels as part of MEISA s Speaker Series b. Write up articles and press releases for all major events c. Keep in contact with Girls, Inc. and any other community based or student run organization to which our MEISA chapter reaches out.

4 d. Head of Public Relations Committee. e. Constantly search for ways to reach out to other organizations. E. Treasurer: a. Submit all budget requests to collegiatelink including primary and secondary. b. Head of Fundraising Committee. c. Acquire donations and sponsorships for Mothers of Rock. d. Keep track of all monetary transactions (deposits, expenditures, donations, reimbursements, etc.) in a well organized and up to date excel spreadsheet. e. Report all spending and monies raised after each event. f. Meet regularly with Financial Advisor from Student Activities to confirm budget accuracy and plan future expenditures/income. g. Constantly look for ways to raise money for MEISA chapter. h. Apply for as many grants and extra funding as possible. F. Promotions: a. Submit marketing forms for every event to collegiatelink at least three (3) weeks prior to event b. Head of Promotions Committee. c. Keep bulletin boards in Durgin (3rd Floor) up to date and visually appealing. d. Constantly search for new and effective ways to promote events. e. Form a team to promote in various ways for major events. VII. Standing Committees / Subcommittees A. Promotions Committee i. The promotions Committee is responsible for promoting all organization events and activities that are open to non members. The Promotions Committee shall work collaboratively with the Public Relations Committee where appropriate. ii. Participation in the Promotions Committee is open to any member that volunteers. iii. The Promotions Committee shall be led by the Promotions Coordinator(s).

5 B. Fundraising Committee i. The Fundraising Committee is responsible for planning and executing events and activities which will raise funds for the organization. This includes searching for grants, sponsorships, and other forms of university, government, or corporate funding. ii. Participation in the Fundraising Committee is open to any member that volunteers. iii. The Fundraising committee shall be led by the Treasurer unless decided otherwise by the C. Tech Crew i. The Tech Crew is responsible for the setup, breakdown, and operation of technical equipment at all organization events and any event in which the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association is involved to this capacity. This includes but is not limited to lighting, audio, and special effects systems. The Tech Crew must also work collaboratively with the Stage Crew before and during events in which both groups are involved. ii. Participation in the Tech Crew is open to any student that volunteers and completes the required training. iii. The Tech Crew shall be led by an elected member or officer. Candidate(s) must have experience with lighting and audio, and must be (or become) familiar with the equipment provided in the different venues throughout the University of Massachusetts Lowell. D. Stage Crew i. The Stage Crew is responsible for acting as stagehands and as a backstage management team at all organization events or programs where this work is required including any event in which the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association is involved to this capacity. The Stage Crew must also work collaboratively with the Tech Crew before and during events in which both groups are involved. ii. Participation in the Stage Crew is open to any student who volunteers and completes the required information session. iii. The Stage Crew shall be led by an elected member or officer. Candidate(s) must have experience with the behind the scenes work involved with a major production. E. Public Relations Committee i. The Public Relations Committee is responsible for communicating with university and

6 public media outlets to inform, promote, and have reviews or articles written about organization events and involvement. Members of this committee will also be responsible for writing articles and reviews for the Connector and other publications at UMass Lowell. The Public Relations Committee shall work collaboratively with the Promotions committee where appropriate. ii. Participation in the Public Relations Committee is open to any member who volunteers. iii. The Public Relations Committee shall be led by the Public Relations Coordinator. VIII. Meetings A. General body meetings are to be held every Tuesday at 7:30 PM. B. Notification of all club meetings shall occur at least one (1) day in advance of the meeting via according to contact information provided by each member. IX. Faculty Advisor A. An advisor shall be chosen from the University of Massachusetts Lowell faculty or staff. X. Amendments The Club Constitution may be amended by two thirds (2/3) of the voting members. Any voting members may propose an amendment which will then be voted on at the following general meeting, after which an accepted amendment will be submitted to the Student Senate for approval and adoption. The amendment shall not go into effect until adoption by the Senate. XI. Impeachment of Officers A. Vote to Impeach and Bring to Trial: At any time a vote of impeachment may be called for by any club member, and if that vote is greater than 30% of the voting body of the club, the said officer shall be brought to trial, at which time a committee shall be set up to investigate the charges against the said officer. B.Trial Procedure: The Trial Committee selected to investigate the charges shall be impartial and give all views of their investigation to the club at the trial, after which a vote for impeachment

7 shall taken. C. Vote to Convict: The vote to convict for impeachment must be two thirds (2/3) of the voting membership of the club. If two thirds (2/3) vote for impeachment is not achieved,, the impeachment fails and the said officer is released from all charges. XII. XIII. XIV. XV. Bylaws Bylaws may be proposed by any members of the club and require a two thirds (2/3) vote of the total voting members of the club to take effect. The membership of the club must be notified in advance of the pending Bylaw change. Hazing Policies All clubs follow Chapter 269 of the General Laws, Sections 17, 18, and 19. This act prohibits the practice of hazing; no club shall haze in any way. Governing Policies All clubs shall be governed by the University Student Conduct Code and Judicial Process. Power of Restriction The Power to restrict a club s funds or representative event is to be held by the Student Senate. All decisions are to be made after a thorough investigation by an appointment committee with cooperation from the Student Senate.
