1 Siena College Philosophy Club Constitution Article 1: Name The name of this organization will be the Siena College Philosophy Club Article II: Purpose The purpose of this organization shall be to: 1. Provide a philosophical community for the exchange and discussion of ideas on matters of contemporary and historical interest 2. Coordinate programs of philosophical interest for Siena students and the Siena Community Article III: Membership All Siena College students, staff, and faculty with an interest in ideas and philosophy are entitled to membership in the Philosophy Club Article IV: Officers and Their Duties The officers shall be the following: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Events Coordinator. The officer terms will run for a full academic year and be elected in the spring by a simple majority of the members of the Philosophy Club in attendance. Section 1. President The President shall: 1. Be elected each April by a simple majority of the members of the Philosophy Club 2. Promote communication between faculty, administration, and students concerning the activities of the Philosophy Club

2 3. Preside over all meetings and events of the Philosophy Club 4. Have the power to call meetings 5. Attend the monthly House of Clubs meetings organized by the Student Senate 6. Accompany the Treasurer to the Budget Allocation Committee meetings to request an additional allocation of funds if required 7. Perform other duties as necessary for the implementation of the purposes of the Philosophy Club Should the President be unable to fulfill his or her duties, the Vice-President shall be promoted to the position. If the Vice-President is unable to fulfill the position of President, the Treasurer shall be promoted to President. In a similar situation if the Treasurer is unable to fulfill the duties of President the Events Coordinator shall be promoted to the position. The consequent empty offices shall be filled via election by a simple majority of the Philosophy Club if necessary. Section 2. Vice President The Vice-President shall: 1. Be elected each April by a simple majority of the members of the Philosophy Club 2. Aid the President in holding and managing meetings and any other duties not assigned to the Treasurer or Events Coordinator If the Vice President is unable to perform his or her duties due to becoming President or for any other reason, the Treasurer shall be promoted to President. If the Treasurer is unable to fulfill their duties as Vice President, the Events Coordinator will be promoted to the position. If all are unable, a general election will be held by the majority of the Philosophy Club.

3 Section 3. Treasurer The Treasurer shall: 1. Keep accurate records of the expenditures of the Philosophy Club 2. Give reports concerning the financial standing of the Philosophy Club as necessary 3. Request additional allocations of funds from the Budget Allocation Committee if required 4. Draft the anticipated budget of the Philosophy Club for the following year each April If the Treasure is unable to perform his or her duties due to becoming President or Vice-President or for any other reason, a new Treasurer shall be elected by a simple majority of the Philosophy Club Section 4. Events Coordinator The Events Coordinator shall: 1. Coordinate and execute all events held by the Philosophy Club 2. Manage the advertising of events held by the Philosophy Club If the Events Coordinator is unable to fulfill his or her duties due to becoming President, Vice-President, or Treasurer, or any other reason, a new Events Coordinator shall be elected by a simple majority of the Philosophy Club Article V: Meetings The Philosophy Club shall meet at the discretion of the President Article VI: Organization Procedures General Procedures: The general operating rules and procedures established by the Student Senate and/or the Budget Allocation Committee for all clubs shall apply

4 Specific Procedures: The Philosophy Club officers will meet regularly to discuss the organization of events, financial status, and other issues as they arise Article VII: Fees and Dues There shall be no fees or dues Article VIII: Advisor The Philosophy Club shall be represented by at least one faculty advisor whose responsibility it is to ensure the continuation of the purpose and policies of the Philosophy Club and to act as a consultant for the members in these matters Article IX: Impeachments An Officer may be impeached if two-thirds of the Philosophy Club deems it necessary and proper Article X: By-Laws The By-Laws of this Constitution may be amended by two-thirds majority vote of the Philosophy Club Article XI: Amendments Additional articles to this Constitution may be added and enforced when approved by two-thirds of the Philosophy Club with the additional approval of the Student Senate 1. Both the President and Treasurer will be required to attend Club Training each semester Article XII: Dissolution For the Philosophy Club to be dissolved, two-thirds of the members must sign a petition for the dissolution of the Philosophy Club and submit said petition to the Student Senate. In addition,

5 should the Philosophy Club be inactive for one year, the new Constitution must be created. The normal procedures for the approval of a new club and the enactment of its Constitution must be followed. Article XIII: Ratification The Constitution of the Philosophy Club, in addition to any Amendments to this Constitution, is effective when ratified by the Student Senate Article XIV: Effective Date Senate Ratification: Spring 2017 Renewed: March 2017
