1 Drake Association of Technology Advancement Constitution Article I: Official Name The organization will be officially named the Drake Association of Technology Advancement (DATA). Article II: Purpose The objectives of Drake Association of Technology Advancement will be to: a) Educate ourselves and others about different types of technology b) Build and create technology from scratch c) Refurbish computers with the intent of donation to worthy groups or individuals d) Volunteer time to the Drake community at move in and other times when increased needs for technology help are required e) Network with other Drake students in a social setting and with professionals within the business community in conjunction with Career Days and other professional events scheduled within the CBPA Section One: Eligibility Article III: Membership Membership of this organization will be composed of any Drake University student or faculty member regardless of major. Officers of this organization must be current Drake students in good academic and social standing. This organization must have enough members to fulfill all officer duties to be considered active. Section Two: Method of Selecting Members Drake Association of Technology Advancement allows any interested student to join the organization without any method of selection. Section Three: Types of Membership All organization members that at least attend half the meetings in the semester will be considered Active. This organization has the right to assign special membership titles as we see fit.

2 Section Four: Methods of Membership Revocation This organization has the right to revoke membership of a member due to their detrimental behavior/actions to the well being of the group and its objectives. This decision is left to the discretion of the organizationʼs officers and sponsor. Section Five: Antidiscrimination This organization will not discriminate against any student or sponsor on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, or disabilities. Section One: Elections Article IV: Officers Officers will be voted upon by the members of the organization every year. Elections will be held in May at the last official meeting of the year. Members who intend to run for office or officers who intend to run for re-election must let their intentions be known to the current President at least two weeks before elections are held. All candidates will make a platform speech to the members, stating their intentions for the position. Once new officers have been determined, transition takes place and the new officers begin their duties in June serving until the following May elections. Section Two: Duties of Officers President Shall plan and preside over all meetings of the organization, represent the organization, and be responsible for all administrative business unless delegated to another officer, member, or committee. Shall serve as the liaison to the DATA Sponsor, on the CBPA Advisory Committee and represent the organization on the appropriate Drake Student Government committees as required. Vice President Shall be responsible for duties of the President in the case of his/her absence, and assist in delegating duties to other members or committees. The VP will work closely with the President on Public Relations and other Marketing goals and objectives of the organization. Secretary Shall keep all records of the organization, including minutes and attendance of all meetings and events. Treasurer Shall coordinate all of the organizationʼs funds and transactions, assume responsibility for Student Senate funding, and communicate the organizationʼs financial status to the rest of the officers.

3 Faculty Advisor(s) Shall oversee the organization and guide the executive officers in decision-making. Once appointed, the faculty advisor has the right to serve an unlimited term. Section Three: Procedure to Fill Vacancies If an officer vacates his/her position during the year for any reason, the current group of officers has the right to appoint a member to that officer position for the remainder of the current term. Section Four: Impeachment Procedures If there is reasonable cause decided for impeachment decided by the Officers and Advisor together, the Officer in question may be removed from office by a 75 percent vote of members attending an official meeting and at least one half of the other officers. Section One: Executive Board Article V: Organizational Structure The executive board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, & Treasurer. Section Two: Committees Drake Association of Technology Advancement has the right to designate and start committees as the club sees fit to complete certain tasks. To become part of a committee, a member must sign up with the interest group of his or her choice. Each committee formed by the chapter shall meet at least twice a semester. Article VI: Advisors The faculty advisor shall be voted for approval as part of the spring elections held by the chapter if needed. If for some reason an advisor cannot be found at this time, the approval of the advisor will be postponed until the fall semester. Any advisor or potential advisor must be a member of the Drake faculty or a Drake administrative staff member. The faculty advisor shall voice his/her opinion in the guidance of DATA, but shall not receive a vote.

4 Section One: Frequency of Meetings Article VII: Meetings and Procedures Drake Association of Technology Advancement will meet on a bi-monthly interval on Wednesdays at 9:30pm unless changed for the benefit of the organization as a whole. Section Two: Policy for Absences It is understood that most members will not be able to attend all meetings throughout the year. With this known, it is the responsibility of the absent member to contact an officer or member to inform them of their absence and receive the minutes of the prior meeting. Section Three: Quorum A quorum shall consist of a simple majority of members, which must include at least one officer. Section Four: Meeting Procedures All meetings will be conducted with a general following of Robertʼs Rules of Order. Section One: Dues/Fees of Membership Article IX: Finance Annual dues will be decided upon by the board officers when they are seen fit for the overall success of the organization. Section Two: Procedures for Organizational Finance The treasurer is officially in charge of all financial tasks of the organization, but must have the approval of both the President and Student Advisor to officially spend any funds belonging to the organization.

5 Section One: Proposal of Amendments Article X: Amendments & Methods of Adoption Constitutional amendments must be submitted at a regular or special meeting of the chapter and a typed copy submitted to the secretary. These then shall be voted on at the subsequent meeting. In adopting the amendment, a quorum of the membership is necessary. Section Two: Ratification This Constitution shall become valid upon approval by two-thirds of the organizationʼs membership. This Constitution shall supersede any previous by-laws. The Constitution will be reviewed each fall semester to check its pertinence to the goals of the group for that upcoming year. Article XI: Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations The Drake Association of Technology Advancement shall comply with all University and campus policies and local, state, and federal laws. Article XII: Senate Approval The Student Senate of Drake University must approve all changes to this Constitution in the same manner as a completely new Constitution.
