1 North Jersey acht Racing Association Regular Meeting April 20, 2017 Monmouth Boat Club, Red Bank, NJ The March Meeting was called to order by Commodore Sam Oncea at The roll call of member clubs was called and a quorum was present. Recording Secretary Report: The minutes of the March meeting was approved by voice vote and will be posted on the web site. Corresponding Secretary Report-Joel Terry: No report Treasurer Report-Pris Gettis: The balance on hand as of the meeting is $3, Dues letters in the amount of $125 were sent out and these responses were received: LHC SRC SHBCC Nockamixon SC BLC SBC All current bills have been paid The Treasurers Report was approved by voice vote. Rear Commodore s Report-Les Hathaway: The RC reported that the US Power squadron will have safety checks of boats at KC, SSC and MBC Gary Jobson spoke at the Manasquan C on March 25. Attendance was over 100 and many good stories were shared. The Monmouth University Coach John Garth has expressed interest in becoming a Level 1 Instructor trainer. Page 1 of 5

2 On June there will be a Level 1 Instructor Course at SSC. Jamie Bartlett will teach the course. Slots in the class are available. NJRA will explore funding a portion of the program. The US Sailing First Sail Program designed to introduce newcomers to sailing was discussed by Franz Schneider. It is a structured program and materials are available from US Sailing. Vice Commodore s Report-Chris Duncan: The VC urged that responses for the bid sheet for 2017 be submitted. A plan to update the club s inventory of boats and fleets will be undertaken. A goal to have Certified Judges -2 up North and 1 in the South area of the NJRA will be pursued. Commodore s Report-Sam Oncea: Sam confirmed that the Awards Dinner will be on October 29 and the Atlantic Highlands C location will again be pursued. Unfinished Business A Motion to set 2017 dues at $125 was made, duly seconded and approved by Voice Vote Chris reported that he is finalizing the Lottery Application. A CPA will assist in the final preparation of the Application. New Business The 420 States Committee will consist of Georgi Munger SSC Tony Mercurio SCC Mike Sparks representing the BBRA A discussion of a revision to the Deed of Gift was held. The revised wording suggested was The winner of the 420 States Perpetual Trophy must have the Skipper and Crew be a member of a NJ Club or have sailed for a NJ Junior Program. Page 2 of 5

3 SCC will hold the Laser States Regatta. The Deed of Gift to be created will be based on the 420 states Deed of Gift and will be open to Force 7 and Laser Radial boats. The NJRA Single Handed Trophy will be repurposed to become the Laser States Trophy. A plate will be added. A NJRA Social Meeting may be held on July 18 or 25 at BBC. A discussion of the new US Sailing Rules revisions was held. The next meeting will be the Spring Social Meeting at SRC on May 18.
