CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: Board Wayne Fleming called to order the regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Ottawa Township High School District 140 at 6:00 p.m. on February 27, Members present: Karen Fisher, Tim Creedon, Wayne Fleming, George Shanley, Don Harris and Anita Kopko. Member absent: Bill Byczynski. OTHERS PRESENT: Matt Winchester, Mike Cushing, Laura Pastirik, Jeff DeWalt, OTHSEA Steve Johnson. Representatives from the media: WCMY radio; News Tribune, The Times newspapers. MINUTES: Motion made by Shanley, seconded by Fisher to accept and approve the minutes for the regular meeting on January 30, 2012 as submitted. On roll call all members present vote yea. BILLS/PAYROLL: Motion made by Harris, seconded by Creedon to approve the district treasurer s report, financial statements, bills and payroll for January On roll call all Board Member Bill Byczynski arrives at 6:07 p.m. OTHSEA Steve Johnson had an open invitation to board members to attend the Golden K Club on Wednesday, February 29 at 9:30 a.m. The meeting is held at the Fox High Rise and the OTHS Speech Team will be their guests. CORRESPONDENCE: Matt read a thank you note from Jim and Lori French for the recognition on senior night honoring his thirty-five years of sports casting the Ottawa Lady Pirates and Pirates. Jim and Lori were given a lifetime event pass from the Booster Club. Thank you, Jim. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS: SUPERINTENDENT: We received our Public School Certificate of Recognition from the Illinois State Board of Education through the Regional Office of Education for the school year. School districts are required to meet a number of operational compliance requirements to be fully recognized and I am pleased to report we are fully recognized. The United Way held their annual recognition dinner on February 1. OTHS students received a certificate of appreciation for their contributions. Not only do we have a number of donations from OTHS but also have a number of students and staff members participate in the annual Labor of Love home repair event. We will be hosting the IASB Board member training tomorrow evening at 7pm in our cafeteria. Please plan to arrive early as we have two Regional basketball games going on at the same time. Included in your packet is the brochure regarding the Illinois Association of School Board s Starved Rock Division Dinner Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8, at Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Club, LaSalle at 6:00 p.m. The Common Core State Standards will be discussed. Please RSVP with Susan if you would like to attend. The annual Booster Club Scholarship Fundraising Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 10, at Festivities Unlimited beginning at 5:30pm with dinner being served from 6-8pm. Advance tickets are $20 per person or $25 at the door. Please join us as this is usually very well attended.

2 PRINCIPAL: The 4 th Six Weeks ended on February Friday, 10, 2012 and report cards were sent home with students on Thursday, February 16, Congratulations to the WYSE academic team for taking 2 nd place in the Division II team competition held at IVCC on Friday, February 3, They had nine individual winners and this included a sweep of the Engineering Graphics awards with David Sterner taking 1 st place, Nathan Klaassen placing 2 nd and Luke Lancaster capturing 3 rd. This also included a sweep of the Mathematics awards as Austin Burant was 1 st, David Sheridan 2 nd, and Hannah Walker and Alyssa LeSure tying for 3 rd. David Sterner took 1 st place in Chemistry and Sam Ehret placed 3 rd in Chemistry. Two medals were earned in Biology as Alyssa Lesure placed 2 nd and Dane Leppert 3 rd. The WYSE team will now move on to the sectional competition held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Bradley University. FFA week was held February 21 24, Several activities were held during the week and the activities concluded with a teacher/staff appreciation pork burger cookout. Registration for the school year is ongoing. The counselors have completed their visits to the feeder schools and they are currently working on registering the remaining 9 th, 10 th, and 11 th graders in the building who have not been registered at this time. We are hosting the boys basketball regional this week in Kingman Gym. Our boys will be playing tonight at 7:30 p.m. against LaSalle-Peru High School with the winner advancing to play Washington High School tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. the OTHS Student Athletic Trainers, led by Mr. Joe Haywood, will host the 16 th annual sports medicine clinic here at OTHS. The focus of the clinic this year will be the signs and symptoms of concussions. On March 14, 15, and 16, 2012 OTHS will hold its annual Fine Arts Festival. The festival will conclude with Finest of the Fine Arts on Friday, March 16 at 7:00 in the auditorium. ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS: None PERSONNEL FALL COACHES: Motion made by Kopko, seconded by Shanley to approve the Fall Head coaches for the school year, list as presented: Football Trent Swords; Girls Tennis Steve Johnson; Golf Dave Wultzen; Boys Soccer Jeff Davis; Cross Country Doug Hearn; Volleyball Bernadette Savitch; Girls Swim Jenny Borkowski. On roll call all SENIORITY LIST: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Harris to approve the indistrict seniority list as presented for the school year. On roll call all members present voted yea. RESIGNATIONS: Motion made by Harris, seconded by Shanley to accept the resignation of science teacher Tracy Richardson effective at the end of the school year, and we will seek to fill vacancy if necessary. On roll call all members present voted yea. Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Harris to accept the resignation from physical education teacher Derek Williams effective at the end of the school year, and we will seek to fill vacancy if necessary. On roll call all Motion made by Kopko, seconded by Creedon to accept the resignation of part-time hall monitor Kari Goode effective immediately. On roll call all members present voted yea. Motion carried. Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Creedon to accept the resignation of special education teacher Jennifer McMillan effective at the end of the school year, and we will seek to fill vacancy if necessary. On roll call all ENGLISH: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Fisher to hire Erin Byrd from Marseilles, IL for the English position in the school year. This position will be available with the retirement of Anthony Morgan. On roll call all members present voted yea.

3 LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Byczynski to hire Daniel Heaver from Ottawa for the Library Media Specialist position for the school year. This position will be available with the retirement of Sue Barlow. On roll call all members present voted yea. PART-TIME HALL MONITOR: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Shanley to hire Barb Cheli as a part-time hall monitor effective immediately. On roll call all members present voted yea. VOLUNTEERS: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Harris to approve spring volunteer coaches for the school year. They are: baseball Charlie Monroe,Ben Diss, Bret Lockas; Girls Soccer Sean Porter; Boys and Girls Track Rusty Wells and Fletcher Wells; Boys Tennis Lyle Guenther, Dan Le and Kevin Olesen. On roll call all members present voted yea. UNFINISHED BUSINESS LIFE SAFETY AMENDMENT #28: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Kopko to submit Life Safety Amendment #28 to the state for a total of $232,047. This Amendment will complete Life Safety Amendment #26 work. On roll call all members present voted yea. BID WITHDRAWAL: Motion made by Shanley, seconded by Fisher to allow Lite from Montgomery, IL to withdraw their bid quote for work this summer. The bid was underestimated by approximately $700,000. On roll call all LIFE SAFETY BIDS: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Creedon to accept the combined bids for Life Safety #26 and 27 work this summer. The combined bid is $3,106,300. On roll call all NEW BUSINESS SCHOOL CALENDAR : Motion made by Kopko, seconded by Harris to approve the proposed school calendar as submitted. School will start on August 15, graduation on May 31. On roll call all PRESS PLUS UPDATE POLICY FIRST READ STUDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Harris to enter into a three year contract with Skyward as our student management system with an initial cost of $57,324 and an annual fee of approximately $13,169 or based on student population. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: Board Wayne Fleming called to order the special meeting of the Board of Education of the Ottawa Township High School District 140, at 7:30 a.m. on March 15, Members present: Karen Fisher, Tim Creedon, Wayne Fleming, George Shanley, and Anita Kopko. Members absent: Don Harris and Bill Byczynski. OTHERS PRESENT: Matt Winchester, Mike Cushing, Jeff DeWalt, and recording secretary, Susan MacDonald. VIA PHONE CONFERENCE: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Fleming to have board member Bill Byczynski join the meeting via phone conference at 7:33 a.m. On roll call all PERSONNEL VOLUNTEER COACH: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Creedon to allow Steven Bruck to volunteer as an assistant sophomore softball coach for the school year. On roll call all CLOSED SESSION: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Kopko to enter into closed session at 7:34 a.m. to discuss student discipline matters. On roll call all members present voted yea. RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Creedon to return to open session at 7:57 a.m. EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION: Motion made by Creedon, seconded by Fisher to expel Student for the remainder of this semester and all of thru July 30, 2013 for gross misconduct. Student may attend LaSalle County Safe School at this time. The hearing report was submitted by hearing officer, Joel DeTella. On roll call all EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION: Motion made by Kopko, seconded by Fisher to expel student for the remainder of the school year and the school year for gross misconduct. Student may attend LaSalle County Safe School at that time. Student must meet the stipulations of the Board of Education that this student submit to random drug testing and attend meetings at North Central Behavioral Systems during this expulsion period at the expense of the parents. If these stipulations are successfully met, Student may return to Ottawa Township High School for the spring 2013 semester. The hearing report was submitted by hearing officer, Joel Detella. On roll call all members present voted yea. EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION: Motion made by Fisher, seconded by Kopko that Student be expelled effective March 15, 2012 thru March 14, 2014 for gross misconduct. CALL TO ORDER/ ROLL CALL: Wayne Fleming called to order the special meeting of the Board of Education of Ottawa Township High School, District 140 at 7:30 a.m. on March 7, Members present: Tim Creedon, Wayne Fleming, George Shanley, Don Harris, and Anita Kopko. Members absent: Karen Fisher and Bill Byczynski. OTHERS PRESENT: Matt Winchester and Mike Cushing. VIA CONFERENCE CALL: Motion made by Shanley, seconded by Kopko to invite Board Member Karen Fisher to attend the meeting via phone conference. On roll call all CLOSED SESSION: Motion made by Harris, seconded by Creedon to enter into closed session at 7:32 a.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public bod to determine its validity - with possible action to be taken.
