2 Reports Informational Items a) Superintendent Report Mr. Davis mentioned that we had a district-wide pep rally whereby we walked all the students to the MCSH. He thanked the Harrodsburg Police and Fire Depts. and the Mercer Co. Sheriff and Fire Depts. He thanked the students, cheerleaders and the band for all they did during the tournament and championship. The coach mentioned it was a total of 1660 miles! Good news: SEEK was expected at $10.1M for 17/18 and now it will be $10.4M. We will do our Tentative Budget in April. Pensions are still in Committee at the state level. Gov. Bevin was on the radio talking about teachers and said teachers get a raise every year after retirement. (That is the COLA Cost of Living Allowance -- that they have paid for in advance). If the COLA is cut to the level Bevin wants, it will mean a loss of $75,000 to a retired teacher over the remainder of their life. The state budget is in committee this week. b) Finance Monthly Overview Amber Minor, Finance Officer, gave the financial report for February The ending general fund cash balance was $6,519,764 as compared to $6,054,270 for February Total revenue was down by $59,084 compared to last February, which is less than a 1% difference. Revenue increased by $1.6 million from January to February. This is largely due to receiving $670,201 in Property & Motor Vehicle Taxes, $75,044 in Utility Taxes and $859,428 in SEEK Funds. General Fund has received 74.7% of the revenue that we budgeted for this fiscal year. This is good considering we were 66.7% through the fiscal year at the end of February, and suggests that we will receive more than what we budgeted. Total expenditures were up 1% compared to last year. Expenses increased by $1.6 million from January to February. A typical increase per month is between $1.4 - $1.5 million, so this is really only about a $100,000 - $200,000 difference from the norm. This increase is largely due to debt service payments of $132,802 and building operations expenses increasing by $146,187. General Fund has expended or encumbered 53.9% of the expenses that we budgeted for this fiscal year. Again, this is good considering we were 66.7% through the fiscal year at the end of February, and suggest that we will not spend as much as we budgeted. In other news, the district received their Tentative SEEK calculation back in September showing a decrease of what we originally budgeted. The Tentative SEEK amount was $10, With that in mind, we were estimating that our Final SEEK may be lower as well, so we projected that at $10.1 million. The district received their Final SEEK calculation on March 1 st and the total is $10,400,186. The board will vote on the Hay Bid at this meeting. In April we will look at contract renewals/new bids for services, insurance renewals, fidelity bond and bond of depository. In May the Tentative Budget must be approved and sent to KDE by the 30 th, we will look at SBDM Carryforward Requests, School Fees and the Salary Schedule. c) DPP/Attendance Report Scanned and Attached PUBLIC PARTICIPATION No one signed up to speak to the board CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS: a. 4 Mercer 2017/18 Calendar Amendment On a motion by, second by, the board voted to approve the 17/18 revised calendar which stated we will use May as Instructional Days and Closing Day will be May 25 th. VOTE: 5 of Permission to Use KISTA Bus Selling to Sell 2 Buses On a motion by, second by, the board voted to sell the following buses: #197, #297 and to adopt the attached resolution for selling two surplus buses Board to Approve the LPC Hearing Report Dick Webb stated that no community members attended the LPC Hearing. He stated we have a very good plan for the next 4 years! On a motion by, second by, the board voted to approve the verbal LPC Hearing Report as presented.
