LAMBDA MU OMEGA ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED 68TH BOULE PLENARY I REPORT HOUSTON, TEXAS JULY 5-12, 2018 SORORS ROBINA LINEAR KING AND NICOLE DOBYNES FIRST PLENARY SESSION MONDAY, JULY 9, 2018 The First Plenary session of the 68 th Boule of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated was called to order at 8:01 a.m. by the presiding officer Supreme Basileus Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson following a musical selection from the 68 th Boule Choir. Madam Supreme thanked the Boule Choir and welcomed all to the 68th Boule with 19,238 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in attendance. This Boule would be the third largest in the history of the Sorority. The last Boule in Houston was in 1978 and the largest chapter, Alpha Kappa Omega, is currently in Houston. Soror Sharon M. Bowman, International Protocol Committee Chairman presented the induction of 3 Diamond Sorors, acknowledged Golden Sorors, Leadership Fellows, International Committee Members, and Former Directorate Members. She also introduced the Dias

2 consisting of the International Regional Director, Regional Directors, Executive Directors, Boule Committee, and former Supreme Basileus. Soror Cynthia D. Howell, Executive Director presented the Charter and set it in place to allow for the Boule to be in session. The gospel hymn Total Praise, one of the Supreme Basileus favorite songs, was presented by the Boule Choir. Soror Faye B. Bryant, 21st Supreme Basileus presented the Meditation which focused on Change. Soror Bryant encouraged all Sorors to remove all the NOTS in their life the cannots, the will not s, and the should not s that plague our lives. Meditation was accompanied by the Boule Choir singing Changed. Singing of the Sorority Hymn July 8, 2018 Registration Report presented by Soror Cynthia D. 3 General Members 12 TOTAL DELEGATE STRENGTH 3,807 Supreme Basileus Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson seated the delegates and explained the voting system. Voting will be done by clickers given to each delegate after certification. A clicker test question was administered to the delegates for the purpose of testing the equipment. No one reported malfunctioning clickers. Soror Deidra B. Fountaine, 68th General Boule Chairman, offered a greeting to the assembly followed by a welcome presentation from the 68th Boule Hostess Chapters. Tributes were given to Sorors Mae Jemison and Karen Jackson. Soror Deidra announced a successful landing into Space City! Singer Cupid was introduced and performed the song Do IT With Your Boots On. Following the performance, a custom made cowboy hat, vest, and boots were presented to Madame Supreme Basileus Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson by the Hostess Chapters. Soror Mietha, the first female African American Superintendent of the Houston Independent School District, presented a Resolution acknowledging Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated s contribution to the relief effort during tropical storm Harvey. She was accompanied by Rhonda Jones and Wanda Adams. An additional resolution was given to Mattlin B. Glaze and Faye B. Bryant for their pioneering work with the Houston School District. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated presented a donation to the relief fund in Houston for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. A response to the welcome was presented by Soror Kimberly Boyd, 67th General Boule Chairman. Delegates were asked to adopt the Boule agenda with flexibility. AGENDA ADOPTED YES 3, % NO % The report of the Rules Committee was given by Soror Michele R. Willis Boule Rule Committee Chairman. Soror Michele announced that no fines would be levied during this Boule and that the Password was ALPHA ALPHA THETA OMEGA. RULES ADOPED YES 3, % NO % Soror Charletta Wilson s, Supreme Grammateus, presented the minutes of the 68th Boule. Substantive (names and omissions) and grammatical errors were corrected. The minutes were accepted by unanimous consent. Appointment of Boule Officers Accepted by unanimous consent.

Singleton, Omega Mu Omega Ratification of Committee Appointment Accepted by unanimous consent. Evaluations - Soror Markita J. Grant, Nu Lambda Omega Resolutions - Soror Sherrish D. Holloman, Omega Theta Omega Rules - Soror Michelle R. Willis, Xi Nu Omega Elections - Soror Brenda J. Hanes, Xi Eta Omega Tellers - Officers Elections - Soror Donna Simpson Leak, Theta Omega Tellers - Bylaw Amendments - Soror Staci. K. Reed, Alpha Rho Omega Time and Place - Soror Terri Dean, Rho Theta Omega Time Monitoring - Soror Charlotte Anderson, Kappa Lambda Omega Soror Glenda Baskin Glover, First Supreme Anti-Basileus, presented the Boule Reports. Each delegate was give a copy of the reports in their packet. The purpose of the presentation was for information only. No reports contained recommendations and no action was needed. The Boule Reports were accepted as part of the Boule minutes. Soror Marsha Perine Beard, PRP, Supreme Parliamentarian and International Committee Chairman reported on the voting scheduled for July 10, Discussion was given on the proposed Constitution and Bylaw changes. There was one (1) proposed Constitution change and eight (8) proposed Bylaw changes. A two-third (2/3) vote is needed for the proposed change to be adopted. A Forum was given for open discussion and unanswered questions regarding all changes presented. Each Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated received the information prior to the 68th Boule for review. Soror Dana S. Branham, International Nominating Committee, reported that there was four (4) candidates for First Supreme Anti-Basileus, one (1) candidate for Second Supreme Anti-Basileus, five (5) candidates for Supreme Grammateus, four (4) candidates for Supreme Tamiouchos (1 disqualified), three (3) candidates for Undergraduate Member-at-Large, and twenty-one (21) Candidates for Regional Director. The candidates were introduced. Candidate for Supreme Tamiouchos, Soror Jocelyn Jones Smith was disqualified but given the opportunity to appeal the decision of the Nominating Committee. Delegates voted to reinstate Soror Jocelyn (2,437 YES, 867 NO). Her name was returned to the ballot as candidate for Supreme Tamiouchos. The nominations were then opened to the floor. The following nominations were accepted from the floor. First Supreme Anti Basileus - none Second Supreme Anti Basileus - one Supreme Grammateus - none Supreme Tamiouchos - three

5 Undergraduate -at-large - two All packets presented by those nominated were accepted. Soror Dana S. Branham introduced the International Nominating Committee. An announced was made that the General Members meeting will continue in room 360A in the George R. Brown Convention Center. Questions for First Supreme Anti Basileus should be submitted to the Supreme Parliamentarian Soror Priscilla Tyree Williams, International Buildings and Property Committee Chairman reported on the CORP Project and the completion of the renovations of The Ivy Center. It s a Wrap, It s Done, It s Debt Free! An Open House was held at The Ivy Center for three weekends in May The Fall 2018 mailing will include an updated 8th Edition of Priceless Pearls, the history book of the Sorority. Soror Brigid A. Roberson, Boule Hodegos, made announcements regarding Soror Services, lost and found items and the 1908 App which could be used to share information while attending the Boule. She also announced that the Safety Overview will be held during Second Plenary and asked Sorors to be mindful of the Houston, TX heat and stay hydrated. There had been over 100 medical incidents reported by the end of the First Plenary. Supreme Basileus, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson called recess for the First Plenary until 3:00 p.m, the start of Second Plenary.
