Register online through February 15, 2014 to avoid a late fee. Soror Devona Whitfield will be available to assist Sorors with online registration if needed. This will be Soror Maggie Green s last conference as our Mid-Western Regional Director, so let s turn out in large numbers to show our support. If you plan to be certified as a Graduate Advisor, please have your completed forms ready for Basileus and/or Grammateus signatures. I encourage Sorors to become certified and be available to provide assistance to our Graduate Advisors. The Beta Sigma Omega website is coming. Chapter information will be available through a member s only login. If you have not already done so, please provide your address to Soror Michelle Chapple. Information that you would like placed on the website must first be approved by the Basileus. My plan is to present BSO with a Basileus Strategic Plan at the February Chapter Meeting, but my goals over the next two (2) years includes focusing on our international initiatives, to encourage a stronger bond of sisterhood through service and social interactions and to aid in the development of our leaders. Sisterhood Committee participated in the Ivy Beyond the Wall service for Soror Ruth Bonnie Williams on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Temple Mortuary. Homecoming service was held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, OKC. Sorors who have 2013 Pearl Pals, please pick up their AKA robes today and please deliver them promptly. Kudos: Soror Priscilla Metoyer s eight year old granddaughter, Channing Williams cheerleading team won 1 st place in a cheer competition held at Hampton University. Prayer Requests: Soror Ameyka Pittman who was in a car accident; Soror Patsy Griggs who has been ill; Soror Carole Andrews who had surgery. Sisterly Sentiments: Soror Lois Mosley on the loss of her brother, Mr. Romie J. Lyday. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in Los Angeles, CA. Next Sisterhood Committee meeting will be held on Monday, January 27, Visiting Sorors: Lanassa Guin, Velma Simpson, Kay Hairston, Sue Starr, Sharon Brown, and Michelle McElwee. Graduate Advisors Kappa Psi: Soror Latonya Robinson, FILED Met with the Executive Team to introduce herself and discuss her role as liaison with Beta Sigma Omega. Also relayed Basileus goal of having more interaction and communication between Kappa Psi and Beta Sigma Omega. In collaboration with BSO, Kappa Psi members are planning to participate in the MLK Day Parade and also attend BSO Founders Day celebration where Soror Tasha Ricks will be on program. Kappa Psi will meet on the first and third Sundays of the month with first meeting scheduled for Sunday, January 19, Planned chapter activities include: Brains, Beauty & Budget Workshop, Super Bowl Party where they will collect cans to donate caps to the Ronald McDonald House, joint activity with Delta Sigma Theta A Torn Heart to raise awareness about women s heart disease, and setting up a booth in the Student Union on February 7, 2014 to distribute heart disease literature for Pink Goes Red Day. As Co-Chair of the Graduate Advisor s Council, Soror Latonya plans to focus on strengthening the Mentor Program. A training session was held this morning prior to chapter meeting. For those sorors who were unable to attend but are interested in becoming a mentor, please see Soror Latonya or Soror Candice MIlard. Beta Beta: Soror Candice MIlard, FILED First meeting held on January 12, Sorors discussed chapter image, planned their calendar, Founders Day, MLK Day observance and inducted officers. Grades were submitted and dues collected. Beta Beta chapter currently has eighteen (18) members. It is my intention to involve the Undergraduate Advisory Committee more in the activities of Beta Beta Chapter. It is my hope to create an undergraduate calendar for use by both Beta Beta
5 and Kappa Psi to be made available to the Undergraduate Advisory Committee so they will be able to volunteer for activities where needed and when available. Beta Beta has begun making preparations for Regional Award submissions. Coming events include Founders Day, storage reorganization, and a healthy snack table for Healthy Eating Awareness. Next chapter meeting scheduled for Sunday, January 26, Ivy Leaf Reporter: Soror Antonia Walker, FILED Submissions for the Spring issue of the Ivy Leaf: Soror Vicki Miles-LaGrange s induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and Ivy Beyond the Wall of Soror Ruth Bonnie Williams. If you have articles that you feel newsworthy, submit to the Basileus for approval and she in turn will forward to Soror Antonia if approved. You are responsible for typing the article and then forwarding to Soror Antonia (word document) and she will edit as needed. Articles to the Ivy Leaf are free, but there is a cost for pictures that accompany the articles. You are encouraged to take pictures at chapter events. There can only be one submission for the various sections within the Ivy Leaf. Any article that is submitted to corporate may not appear in the next issue of the Ivy Leaf. Please do not submit any articles or story ideas on behalf of the chapter to newspapers or news stations. As the Ivy Leaf Reporter it is Soror Antonia s responsibility to disseminate any and all information that is newsworthy. Nominating Committee: Soror Sandra Abdul-Aziz, ORAL Election of 2014 MWRC Delegates; BSO has 12 delegates; the eight (8) automatic delegates by virtue of their positions are Basileus, First Anti-Basileus, Grammateus, Tamiouchos, Pecunious Grammateus, Graduate Advisors, and Membership Chairman. We will need to elect four (4) delegates. Nominations were taken from the floor. MOTION: Moved by Soror Monica Finley to close the nominations with nine (9) names. Seconded, motion failed. Nominations continued with the addition of two (2) names. Nominees for 2014 MWRC Delegate are: Michelle Chapple, Terri Hurte, Shante Fenner, Georgetta James, Felecia Moriels, Lillie Osborn, LaTreece Langston, Anastasia Pittman Pitre, Wesui Chaunte Gilmore, Angela Long and Carlisa Curry. Tellers were appointed by the Basileus: Kimberlie Gulley, Francelia Williams, Karolyn Ruffin and Gayle Caldwell. We will be honoring one (1) Golden Soror: Soror Gerogetta James and seven (7) Silver Sorors: Marguerite Stumbaugh, Sharon Clardy, Madeline Foreman, Yvonne Maxwell, Valerie Lee, Tammy Bass Lesure and Latonya Robinson. Founders Day Luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Remington Park Eclipse Suite located at 1 Remington Place, OKC. This is a membership only event at a cost of $ Payment may be mailed to Soror Deborah Ogles at 9716 Briarcreek Drive, OKC, OK or paid today. Payment deadline is Monday, February 3, Attire for the luncheon is black dress or skirt suit accented with pink or green. Pants and hats are not acceptable attire. Chapter invites were extended to all Oklahoma surrounding chapters. Invite an inactive Soror in an effort to inspire her to rededicate her services to our sisterhood. Founders Day worship service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014, 10:45 a.m. at Greater New Zion Baptist Church located at 1005 NE 28 th Street, OKC. The church will be presenting their Black Heritage Program the same day at 10:00 a.m. and all Sorors are welcome to attend. Monetary donations are being accepted towards our financial presentation to the church for their Educational Scholarship for high school seniors. Public Affairs Committee: Soror Tara Williams, FILED On Sunday, January 19, 2014 we will fulfill the AKA 2014 MLK Day of Service Sunday Supper initiative by volunteering at the Latte Lounge at Tinker AFB. We will be serving lattes to active duty military stationed at the base. During the event we will give away three (3) $10 gift cards. On Monday, January 20, 2014 we will sponsor a community service project at Cross and Crown Missions located at 1008 N. McKinley Ave. from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Cross and Crown Missions is an inner city ministry that offers food, clothing and prayer to those in need. Our task will include the distribution of commodities and to attend a Budget/Financial Literacy workshop that will be facilitated by Soror Kathy Williams. Soror WyAngela Knight-Singh has also arranged for several of the EYL participants to attend per the National requirement. Standards Committee: Soror LaTrice Vaughn, FILED The Standards end of year report has been completed, signed and ed to the Regional Director, International Standards Committee Chair, Regional Standards Representative, and Beta Sigma Omega Basileus. The Annual Chapter Records Certification Form is still in the process of being completed; estimated completion date February 28, The committee met by teleconference on Thursday, January 2, 2014 to discuss the details for the Transition Meeting to be held on Saturday, January 11, Location will be Langston University, OKC Campus. The agenda, speakers, information for binders and lunch menu was finalized. Committee met again on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Urban League of OKC to assemble the binders for incoming officers and committee chairmen. Committee hosted the Transition meeting on Saturday, January 11, 2014, 1:00 p.m. at Langston University, OKC Campus. Thirty-nine (39) sorors were in attendance. Technology Committee: Soror Devona Whitfield, FILED In executing the project to revitalize the chapter website, the Technology Committee has contracted the services of Soror Melanie Moore, owner of Fetch Creative. The contract includes the creation of a 5 to 10 page website for Beta Sigma Omega ( creation of a members only password login section, the addition of approved chapter content, as well as training for the website owner. The total price of services is $ which was negotiated down from $ and was lower than other submitted estimates. The tentative date for the initial launch of the website is February 15, 2014, with other intricate details being worked on as needed.
