1 ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC. Chi Theta Omega Chapter Newsletter Fall is here! As the cool weather settles in, we need to focus in on our final programs of the year. FAIR Girls presented an excellent workshop to the Boys and Girls club at Crestwood Middle School on September 18 and 19. Although I would have liked to have seen more Sorors in attendance, I m grateful to those who were able to come out. October is the month where we are really gearing up for the upcoming debutante ball. The committee has planned community service activities, trips to college fairs, college readiness workshops, etiquette dinners and dance lessons. Tickets will be available for Sorors at the meeting on Saturday. If you will not be at the meeting on Saturday, please contact Soror Veronica to pick up your tickets. Please continue to sell tickets and ads. The ball will be a success if the entire chapter supports it. We have postponed the self-defense workshop to November 16 due to scheduling conflicts with the instructor. I would like to see us increase our visibility in the community through this workshop and food drives at our local super markets. People should be able to identify us by what community service events we do, not just by our signature events. Registration for cluster is underway on the North Atlantic Region website ( If you cannot access the website, send an to the webmistress immediately. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. It will take a few days for the webmistress to get back to you. The cost of cluster is $85. Registration closes on October 11. You can do a paper registration for an additional cost. There is a late registration fee of $25 from 10/12-10/15. The cluster meeting is an excellent opportunity to hear about the state of the sorority and get the latest updates. It is especially useful to those who were not able to attend Regional conference this year. I d like to thank Soror Kiarah for her work with the AKAdence program for the past year. Soror Ida Davis is now working on the program and, although it is still open to any 9 th and 10 th grade girl in Frederick County, it will be based out of Urbana High School. We created the AKAdence program to fulfill the requirements of the Emerging Young Leaders program initiatives for our 9 th and 10 th grade girls. AKAdence is derived from the word cadence, which means balanced rhythmic flow. Our desire is that through interaction with members of Chi Theta Omega, young girls will develop a balanced rhythmic flow of confidence, academic excellence, and a commitment to serving others in their community. AKAdence is an excellent opportunity for the members of Chi Theta Omega to work with young girls and encourage them to make smarter choices at an earlier age with resulting positive outcomes. Saturday s meeting agenda will include presentation of the slate of officers for 2014, by law proposals and the 2014 budget. As always Sorors, I have an open door policy if you have any questions or concerns about the chapter. I do ask that if you have a question to ask me first. Many times, unnecessary confusion and hard feelings can be avoided by asking for clarification. I can always send out clarifying details to the chapter if necessary. As always, I thank you all for your work and appreciate all that you do for Chi Theta Omega. ~ Begin Each Day with a Grateful Heart ~
