1 Multi-Cultural Greek Council Constitution Article I. Name The name of this student organization shall be known as the Multi Cultural Greek Council- Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. Founding Organizations o Alpha Kappa Alpha o Alpha Phi Alpha o Lambda Theta Alpha o Omega Psi Phi o Sigma Lambda Beta Article II. Purpose and Goals Purpose To function as a supportive and legislative body for member organizations and represent shared interests. Goals The major goals shall be l) to promote unification and support of the Greek Community, 2) to promote cultural awareness to the campus population, and 3) to effectively represent the organizations of the council. We will achieve these goals by 1) increasing the membership size of MGC, 2) through collaborations with Greeks, non-greeks, departmental orgs and the campus community and 3) serve as a recruitment resource for members and candidates for membership. Article III. Hazing Definition Hazing means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act occurring on or off the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, by one person alone or acting with others, directed against a student, that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in or maintaining membership in any organization whose members are or include students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Multi Cultural Greek Council Position on Hazing Hazing does not uphold the values established by our founders or individual members and will not be tolerated. Article IV. Membership into the Multi Cultural Greek Council Eligibility Organizations that are recognized by Texas A&M- Corpus Christi and that are recognized by their respective national organizations may apply for membership to the Multi Cultural Greek Council- Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. Organizations must be recognized under a national umbrella such as NALFO, NPHC, NAPA, or NMGC at the time they petition to join the Multi-Cultural Greek Council. No chartered organization shall be excluded because of sex, disability, race, creed, or national origin of organization members. A. Full Membership 1. Recognized chapters at A&M-CC are eligible to be members of the Multi Cultural Greek Council.

2 2. Recognized interest groups or colonies at A&M-CC are eligible to be members of the Multi Cultural Greek Council after meeting associate member requirement. 3. Acknowledgement as an interest group or colony must be provided by the national organization as well as Texas A&M-CC. B. The current membership of the Multi-Cultural Greek Council has the right to review new organizations that petition for membership into said council. C. Associate Membership 1. Upon membership to council, colonies/chapters will have right to voice and vote but not hold office one semester or no less than 60 days upon entering council. Expansion A. Should the Multi Cultural Greek Council, in conjunction with the appropriate offices of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, determine that an additional Greek organization is in fact the best interest of the whole TAMU-CC Greek system then the national/international organizations will be notified by the University Student Activities personnel for the opportunity to colonize on this campus. B. The Multi Cultural Greek Council will follow the expansion policies outlined in the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Greek Handbook. C. If a petitioning organization does not meet the colonization requirements set forth by the Council the petitioning organization must wait one year from the date in which the colonization requirements were not met before they can repetition the council. D. Crashing a campus will not be recognized by the Multi Cultural Greek Council. Crashing refers to an organization or interest group not following the proper procedures in establishing their organization on campus. Section V. Attendance A. Attendance by an organization at all MGC meetings and MGC events is mandatory, and only university recognized excuses will be accepted. B. If the chapter representative will be unable to attend, another chapter member can be present and vote on behalf of the chapter if necessary. C. No more than two unexcused absences will be allowed per semester per organization. No more than three excused absences will be allowed per semester per organization. D. In order for a meeting absence to be considered excused notice must be provided 4 hours before the meeting. E. In order for an event to be considered excused, 48 hour notice is required. F. Failure to comply will result in the following stipulations: I. Loss of vote for remainder of current semester II. If an organization has 3 unexcused or 4 excused absences privileges of recognized student organization will be revoked for remainder of semester. Section VI. Removal Procedures Any member or officer having two unexcused absences a semester or who is not acting in the best interests of the club shall be removed from the Multi Cultural Greek Council.

3 A quorum of 50% + 1 must be present at the meeting and a 2/3 vote must be obtained in order to remove the individual. However, removal is a case by case basis and will be reviewed by council. Section V. Voting Each eligible organization of Multi Cultural Greek Council is allowed one vote. Article VII. Officers Interim Representation Due to the limitations of a new council, each organization will serve as a MGC representative to events as necessary. The advisor will create and maintain all agendas and minutes. MGC Delegates A. For as long as the delegate's full member organization is eligible: a) The delegate may vote and call motions on any issue in a MGC meeting b) Must abide by Section III c) shall have the ability to vote, motion, or bring legislation to the floor d) shall be the liaison between MGC and the chapters Section III. Requirements for Officers For Council officers the following conditions will apply. The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements: a) have at least a 2.5 overall GPA at the time of their election and post at least a 2.5 GPA for the preceding regular semester or the two preceding summer terms at the time of election and during the term of office; b) be in good standing with the university and enrolled in at least 12 credit hours in a regular semester during the term of office; and c) be subject to removal from office by the organization and/or the organization's official university advisor should the student fail to maintain the requirement as prescribed in (a) and (b). Section IV. Officers and Duties President - shall preside over regular and executive meetings, coordinate group activities and communicate with the officers and advisor on all matters. Vice President - shall assist the President and preside over meetings in the absence of the President and act as a liaison between committees and the president. Secretary - shall record minutes at all business meetings, check attendance at functions, and receive and review excuses for absences. Treasurer - shall collect dues, pay bills, oversee other monetary transactions including fund-raising and social activities, and prepare and maintain an annual budget. Public Relations Chairman - shall coordinate promotional events that further the continued growth and awareness of the Multi-Cultural Greek Council at TAMU-CC and in the city of Corpus Christi. Section V. Election Process Elections shall be held at the first regular meeting during the month of April, a quorum must be present and as simple majority vote will win; newly elected officers shall resume responsibility at the following meeting.

4 Section VI. Removal of an Officer Refer to Article III, Section III. Section VII. Vacancies A special election will be called to fill the vacancy using normal voting process. The new officer shall immediately resume those responsibilities. In special circumstances when an election is not feasible, the advisor, in consultation with the president (or vicepresident if president s office is vacant) may appoint an officer until the next regular election. Article VIII. Advisor A. The advisor or co-advisors shall be appointed by the Department of Student Activities at Texas A&M-CC at the beginning of their term. B. The faculty or staff advisor shall advise the organization as needed. The advisor shall not, however, speak for or represent in any way the voice of the organization without prior notice. C. The organization may request Student Activities to change the MGC advisor at any time with a simple majority vote of current membership. The Department of Student Activities will make the final decision to remove or replace the advisor. Article IX. Meetings Meetings shall be held bi weekly at a time that is convenient for the membership. A quorum shall consist of fifty percent plus one (50% + 1) of the membership and must be present to conduct official business. Section III. Special meetings may be called as necessary. Article X. Finances Dues shall be determined per academic year and will be collected from all members of this organization. All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at a public banking facility. All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The advisor and an organizational officer must approve and sign each expenditure before payment or any withdrawal of funds from the account. Section III. If the organization dissolves, disposed monies will be donated to the Student Emergency Fund at TAMU-CC. The current advisor must repost to Student Activities the results of the disposition of funds. Article XI. Amendments and Revision This constitution may be amended at any time by a two-thirds vote of the active membership, subject to the approval of the Director of Student Activities or designee.
