Approval of SAC Minutes of March 4, New Business 7.1 Guest Speaker Constable Gary Oriet Amendments to the Agenda: Guest Speaker Shirley Roebuck Presentation has been cancelled due to illness. Item 7.5 Expense Reimbursement Form has been added to the agenda Motion: Moved by Peter Hensel, seconded by Sue Williams to approve the agenda with amendments. Carried. None noted at this time. Motion: Moved by Bobbi Jo Ferren, seconded by Karen Herman to approve the minutes of Tuesday, April 1, Carried. Guest speaker Constable Gary Oriet delivered presentation on the most prevalent types of financial frauds and scams with the focus on senior population. Background information on ABC s of Fraud program was disclosed with a brief description of the program itself. The goal of this program is to help individuals to identify scams since financial fraud is the fastest growing form of elder abuse. Program requirements reminder: Large number of volunteers interested to participate in the skits and public speaking. Motion Motion 2 SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING, MAY 6, 2014

3 7.2 Age Friendly Plan - Update 7.3 Social Event Update Meeting Schedule - Update Locations to do presentations need to be determined. Constable Oriet will be attending the individual programs to offer advice and answer questions. o Presentation to the C-K Council on Age Friendly Project has been given by Devin Andrews on May 5 th, o Response rate of the Age Friendly Group Surveys is satisfactory. Approximately 100 responses had been received within the first three weeks of distribution (10% of all surveys distributed). Geographically and demographically very evenly distributed. Proposal has been received from Chatham Kent Housing Services to provide 260 copies to all social housing units. o Age Friendly Focus Groups are being well received with good turnouts so far. Any questions or anyone interested in obtaining further information or to register can contact Devin Andrews at or by dandrews@standrewsresidence.com. Options for social gatherings were discussed during April 1 st meeting. Outline of the options discussed: One social event as appreciation barbecue dinner Annually. Organized visits to other centres Monthly. Item postponed for discussion until next meeting. Discussion was developed to explore committee members flexibility and as a follow up of the 2014 Meeting Schedule Plan discussed in the January meeting. 4 7.5 Expense Reimbursement Form 7.6 Senior Centre Round Table 1:00p.m To meet first Thursday of each month at 9:30a.m. or 1:00p.m. With indicated preference to meet in the afternoon hours. All members not in attendance will be contacted via to seek their preferred options regarding the 2014 Meeting Schedule and results are going to be discussed furthermore at the next meeting. Mileage Reimbursement Forms for Senior Advisory Committee Members were distributed by Tami Gillier. Portable Document Format will be circulated via e- mail among all members of the committee. Each centre represented gave a report on events and accomplishments taking place at their locations. Councilor Karen Herman Chatham- Senior of the Year nominations deadline for receiving nomination forms has been scheduled for Friday, May 16 th, Wallaceburg Instructional Class was held for interested participants to learn how to use tablets. - Mother s Day supper scheduled for the evening of May 9 th. - The 2014 Ontario 55+ Summer Games are taking place August 13-15, 2014 in Windsor/Amherstburg. Tournaments are scattered throughout the municipality to nominate representatives from Chatham Kent Community. The cost to participate in the 55+ Games is $165 (HST not included) and covers bus tickets, two nights accommodation and a meal plan. 5 members with a membership card with active participation record. Chatham Computer classes at the Active Life Style Centre are very successful. Comedy Night with dinner comedian and burlesque dancer is scheduled for Friday, May 9 th. Trip to Nova Scotia is planned for the summer. Blenheim Mother Daughter Fashion Show is hosted at Serena s Ladies Wear in Blenheim on May 8 th, tickets are $10. Other Brief discussion has been initiated regarding the updates and maintenance of the website and Facebook page. This item is going to be discussed at the June meeting. 8.
