2 Project Overview What: A series of improvements to I-5, local streets and the railroad tracks in Burbank between Magnolia Blvd. and Buena Vista St. Schedule: Started in May 2014, finishes in Cost: $355 million (federal, state and local sources) Contractor: Security Paving Company, Inc.
3 Why Is This Project Needed? Airport and commercial centers require better access. Prevent traffic from using residential streets and causing delays. Improve connectivity and traffic flow to meet future demands.
4 Benefits Improved safety Improved local traffic circulation Easier access to airport, shopping centers Reduced congestion/better air quality Less traffic on residential streets Better connectivity across I-5

8 Mitigation of Traffic Impacts Joint decision-making with city on traffic management strategies. City has adjusted signal timing on detour routes to keep traffic moving. 4 lanes of I-5 (both directions) almost always open during the day. 18 Reconstruction of Burbank Blvd. Bridge About the New Bridge Accommodates new carpool lanes. Includes a wider sidewalk for pedestrians, bike lanes. Provides new diamond interchange.
19 Burbank Blvd. Bridge Closure Existing bridge to be demolished and reconstructed; I-5 realigned. Work begins mid-2018, takes 14 months. Buena Vista Street will be open and new elevated railroad tracks will be operating. Burbank Blvd. bridge will not close until the new Empire Ave. interchange and undercrossing are OPEN.
20 Burbank Blvd. Bridge Closure New freeway access points BEFORE bridge closes. Extensive outreach campaign. Detour carefully monitored, adjusted as needed. Some ramps remain open: o southbound off-ramp to Burbank Blvd. o northbound off-ramp to eastbound Burbank Blvd.
